The Opportunity:

Almabase is looking to hire a Sales Development Rep (SDR) to join their growing sales team. An SDR is the first voice of the company to potential customers. Your role will be to seek new business opportunities with schools, colleges, and universities in the USA by contacting and developing relationships with potential customers through various channels.

Once a prospect has sufficient interest and wants to explore our solution, you will introduce them to an Account Executive (AE) who will be responsible for handling that relationship until they sign a contract. When in-person conferences start again, you will have opportunities to travel to the USA and represent the company.

Our ideal candidate is early into their career (< 3 years experience), is confident, can communicate clearly, and has a passion for sales.

 

Compensation

Total Salary: Rs. 8 to 11 lakhs per annum (base plus commissions)

We prefer that every employee also holds equity in the company. In this role, you will be awarded equity after 12 months, based on the impact you have created.

Please be aware that the only market you will be selling into in this position will be the US. So you are expected to work during US hours - 4 PM to 2:30 AM IST (approx.)

 

Responsibilities:

  • KPIs - Number of sales qualified leads (SQLs), $ pipeline created.
  • Reach out to decision makers at relevant universities and schools in the USA using various outreach methods including emails, phone calls, and LinkedIn. You will be provided with a list of institutions to reach out to every month by the SDR manager.
  • Your primary responsibility is to engage those people, understand their needs, provide them helpful information and handle that relationship until they are interested enough to explore our solution.
  • You will also be required to chat with website visitors occasionally to answer their questions and convert them into qualified leads.
  • Use CRM (Hubspot) to maintain and report on your activity and outcome metrics.
  • Participate in regular meetings to share progress, identify blockers and improve performance.

You will be supported by:

  • A dedicated research team creates a database of potential customers, so a majority of your time will be focused on outreach and engagement, not on researching and finding contacts to reach out to.
  • A marketing team that is constantly creating case studies, educational content and newsletters to support your outreach.

  • At least 1 - 3 years of sales experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal business communication skills.
  • Any experience in SaaS sales to the US geography is a bonus.

What will a typical quarter look like?

  • At the beginning of each month, you will work with the SDR manager to analyse the results of your outreach during the previous month and understand what worked well and what didn’t. You will also learn from the results of other SDRs.
  • You will also then identify which list of institutions you will be reaching out to that month, and what the messaging will be.
  • You will typically be working on engaging about 300 - 400 institutions each quarter.
  • On a typical day, you will spend 2 hours writing and responding to emails that you would have received, 2 hours calling/connecting on LinkedIn, and 2 hours adding new people to your outreach. You will roughly spend 1 hour per day on meetings with the SDR team and the larger sales & marketing team.

  • Discipline - The most successful SDRs are very disciplined with their day to day activities. Ensuring you are making enough calls, sending enough emails, LinkedIn connects is half the battle won.
  • Persistence - The quality, consistency and frequency of follow-ups after initial outreach separates the average SDRs from the best.
  • Articulating value prop - You need to have conviction and clarity on the value our solution offers to potential customers. This will enable you to articulate clearly and also handle objections raised by the prospect.
  • Competitive and like to win - You want to win and are willing to work hard to get there. You are open to learning from others that are succeeding.
  • Objection Handling - You need to be able to hold natural conversations while handling objections that prospects share with you.


How will we set you up for success in this role?

  • We will provide you with detailed training to give you a head start in the world of alumni relations and educational fundraising. We’ll also talk about the competitive landscape, provide you access to hundreds of recorded conversations, emails, and existing marketing materials. Our CRM is a treasure trove :)
  • We will provide you training as well as resources to learn SDR best practices in SaaS.
  • We will provide you a playbook of how we do things currently. This includes how to use the CRM (Hubspot), call scripts, and email templates.
  • During the first 8 weeks, you will have one-on-one calls with each person in the sales & marketing team to get to know them. You will also be involved in role-plays with current sales team to prepare you better for the actual calls.
  • Our audience is generally very friendly and generally more receptive to conversations than most other industries. Part of their job is to build relationships so they're naturally more open to new relationships.
  • You will be involved in a monthly one-on-one with the SDR manager to discuss feedback and scope of improvement, apart from regular mentoring by the rest of the sales team and CEO.
