About the Role

We are looking for a Senior AI Engineer with strong command of LLM integration, high-performance API design, and AI-native application architecture. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role at the intersection of applied AI engineering and platform development - building the intelligent query, authoring, and retrieval layers that sit on top of a complex multi-database backend.

You will design and build APIs that expose AI capabilities to end users and external agents, integrate LLMs within governed and auditable boundaries, and deliver semantic search and RAG pipelines that ground AI responses in structured data. You will work closely with data engineers, data architects, and product teams to ensure AI outputs are accurate, performant, cost-efficient, and compliant - across any industry domain.

Key Responsibilities

LLM Integration & AI-Assisted Features

•Integrate large language model APIs - such as Claude (Anthropic), GPT-4o (OpenAI), or equivalent - into production application workflows; LLM provider preference is secondary to strong integration engineering skills.

•Design prompt engineering frameworks - including few-shot examples, structured output schemas, and chain-of-thought patterns - that improve output quality, consistency, and reliability across varying inputs.

•Build AI-assisted authoring and generation features: accept natural language inputs, call LLM APIs to generate structured outputs, validate results against defined schemas, and surface them for user review.

•Implement LLM output evaluation pipelines: automated regression testing, schema conformance scoring, output quality metrics, and A/B testing infrastructure for prompt and model variants.

•Integrate LLM calls within governed boundaries: input sanitization, output validation, comprehensive audit logging via OpenTelemetry, and policy-based access control (OPA/Rego or equivalent).

API Engineering - GraphQL & REST

•Design and build high-performance API services using FastAPI or equivalent Python frameworks; own async design, middleware, error handling, and observability instrumentation.

•Implement GraphQL APIs with dynamic schema generation: generate resolvers and SDL from a metadata or schema registry at runtime rather than hand-coding per entity type, enabling the API to serve any user-defined data model through a single interface.

•Build and expose AI agent tool interfaces using MCP (Model Context Protocol) or comparable tool-calling architectures, enabling external AI agents to query and interact with backend data systems as structured tools.

•Design efficient query execution across heterogeneous backends - graph databases, search engines, relational stores, and caches - with a unified query planning layer.

Semantic Search & RAG Pipelines

•Build semantic search capabilities over structured and unstructured data using embedding models - such as OpenAI text-embedding-3, Cohere Embed, or open-source equivalents - and vector stores such as Weaviate, Pinecone, pgvector, or Qdrant.

•Design and implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines that ground LLM responses in retrieved structured data; implement hybrid retrieval combining dense vector search and BM25 keyword matching.

•Implement AI agent tool orchestration: allow LLMs to call backend query APIs, traverse data graphs, and synthesize multi-step answers without hard-coded prompt templates.

•Optimize retrieval quality using reranking models, query expansion, and context compression techniques; measure and track retrieval metrics (NDCG, MRR, recall@k).

Graph Database Integration

•Build AI query and retrieval layers over graph database backends; production experience with Neo4j (preferred) or equivalent platforms such as Amazon Neptune, ArangoDB, or TigerGraph is valued.

•Author graph queries in the appropriate query language for the platform - Cypher (Neo4j), Gremlin (Neptune/TinkerPop), or SPARQL - to support AI-driven graph traversal and entity lookup patterns.

•Design LLM-to-graph query translation patterns: convert natural language questions into structured graph queries, validate outputs, and return grounded, cited answers.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

•Own architectural decisions, code reviews, and LLM API cost governance.

•Define AI testing and evaluation standards: prompt regression suites, evaluation framework selection, latency and cost benchmarks per AI feature.

•Collaborate closely with data engineers on backend data models and with data architects on schema governance to ensure AI outputs conform to defined standards.

•Focus on LLM integration patterns, prompt engineering best practices, and AI evaluation methodologies.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills - All Required
