Role Summary
We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Python Application Support Engineer to join our Technical Operations team. This role is crucial for ensuring the stability and reliability of our mission-critical, Python-based applications. You will be responsible for timely incident resolution, deep-dive troubleshooting, implementing permanent fixes, and driving operational efficiency through automation.
🔑 Key Responsibilities
Technical Troubleshooting & Incident Management
- Incident Resolution: Serve as the primary point of contact for complex Level 2 and Level 3 production incidents, diagnosing root causes and resolving issues across our Python application stack.
- Deep-Dive Analysis: Utilize log analysis tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK Stack) and monitoring platforms (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) to quickly identify and address anomalies in application behavior.
- Code Debugging: Analyze, debug, and fix application issues directly within the Python codebase, including Flask/Django services, worker queues, and custom scripts.
- Database Health: Troubleshoot performance issues and conduct basic SQL/NoSQL query tuning and health checks (e.g., for PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis).
Operational Excellence & Automation
- Monitoring & Alerting: Continuously refine and optimize application monitoring, alerting, and logging configurations to improve mean time to detect (MTTD) and mean time to resolve (MTTR).
- Python Automation: Develop, maintain, and enhance automated scripts (primarily in Python) to streamline routine operational tasks, reporting, health checks, and system recovery processes.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles for application support procedures and recurring issues.
Collaboration & Prevention
- Cross-Functional Fixes: Collaborate closely with the Development and DevOps teams to provide clear technical feedback on recurring issues and implement permanent, scalable solutions.
- Proactive Maintenance: Identify potential system bottlenecks, performance degradation points, and areas prone to failure, recommending and implementing preventative measures.
⚙️ Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of professional experience in Application Support, Production Support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or a similar technical role.
- Python Expertise (Mandatory): Strong hands-on experience with Python scripting and programming, including the ability to read, debug, and modify application code.
- Operating Systems: Proficient working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
- Databases: Solid experience with relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) databases, focusing on query analysis and performance.
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with a strong background in building distributed, scalable, and high-performance backend systems. The ideal candidate has 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including 3+ years in microservices or distributed architecture, and deep expertise in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, and async I/O patterns.
The candidate will own backend services end-to-end — from architecture and design to implementation, optimization, and production support — while working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Backend Architecture & Development
- Architect, design, and implement backend services using Python (preferably FastAPI) with clean, maintainable, and scalable code.
- Develop microservice components, service communication layers, and distributed workflows.
- Build APIs and backend modules optimized for performance, fault tolerance, and low latency.
2. Distributed Systems & Scalability
- Design and maintain distributed systems capable of handling high throughput and large-scale operations.
- Implement inter-service communication patterns (REST, event-driven, message queues, pub/sub).
- Ensure system resiliency through redundancy, graceful degradation, and autoscaling strategies.
3. Asynchronous & Event-Driven Architecture
- Build async workflows, background tasks, and pipeline services leveraging asyncio or async frameworks.
- Develop event-driven components including producers, consumers, and event processors.
- Optimize I/O-heavy operations to maximize concurrency and throughput.
4. Data Storage, Pipelines & Caching
- Design relational schemas, write optimized SQL queries, and work with PostgreSQL performance tuning (indexes, partitions, query planning).
- Implement caching strategies, rate limiting, distributed locks, and session storage using Redis.
- Build data validation pipelines and compliance-driven data flows ensuring data correctness and auditability.
5. Security, Reliability & Observability
- Implement authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure API practices.
- Build monitoring, alerting, metrics, and tracing systems using modern observability tools.
- Diagnose production issues, identify bottlenecks, and drive long-term fixes and improvements.
6. Code Quality & Technical Leadership
- Conduct detailed code reviews and ensure engineering best practices across the team.
- Participate in technical roadmap planning, architectural discussions, and system design decisions.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; drive a culture of technical excellence and ownership.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years backend engineering experience.
- 3+ years building microservices or distributed systems.
- Strong expertise in Python and frameworks like FastAPI (or Flask/Django with async exposure).
- Deep understanding of async I/O, concurrency models, and asynchronous programming in Python.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL (schema design, advanced queries, optimization).
- Hands-on experience with Redis for caching, queues, session management, and distributed patterns.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, message processing, or streaming systems.
- Solid understanding of system design, scalability principles, and API lifecycle management.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and cloud environments.

Development Projects
Backlog Create: Work with cross functional teams to breakdown the quarterly objectives into tasks and create backlog in Jira
Groom: Review the backlog regularly for each product / team and keep the items up-to-date and prioritized
Planning: From the backlog create sprint plans for all our products and cross functional teams every two weeks
Estimation: Ensure all the tasks in sprint have assignments, estimates added in Jira and the time spent is recorded
- Ensure all the tasks in sprint have start and end dates - Scheduling, Tracking, Releases
- Work with team to plot the tasks in the sequence as they would be delivered to ensure the planning is realistic
- Attend regular sprint meetings and monitor the progress against the plan o Find out the dependencies and work with cross functional teams to resolve them.
