Job Overview:

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer (SDE III) with over 5 years of experience to lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in software development, deep technical expertise, and a proven track record of successfully leading large-scale engineering teams and projects. This role requires strategic leadership, the ability to manage complex technical challenges, and the ability to drive innovation while ensuring operational excellence.As a Backend Lead, you will collaborate with key stakeholders across the business, product management, and operations to ensure alignment with the organization’s goals and play a critical role in shaping the technology roadmap and engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership and Team Development: Lead and inspire a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. Manage the hiring, training, and career development of engineering staff.
• Strategic Planning: Work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement engineering strategies that support business objectives. Define technology roadmaps and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
• Technical Excellence: Guide the team in designing and implementing scalable, robust software systems. Drive the adoption of best practices in architecture, coding standards, and software testing to ensure high-quality product delivery.
• Project and Program Management: Oversee the successful delivery of engineering projects, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and budget constraints are met. Use agile methodologies to manage the development process and resolve bottlenecks.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Business, and Operations teams to define project requirements and deliverables. Ensure the smooth integration of engineering efforts across the organization.
• Risk Management: Anticipate and mitigate technical risks and roadblocks. Proactively identify areas of technical debt and drive initiatives to reduce it.
• Stakeholder Communication: Act as the technical point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, resource allocation, and performance metrics. Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering
• Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale, high-impact software projects.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable system design.
• Expertise in multiple programming languages and modern development frameworks For this role we require expertise in Python/Django and API Development
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS), microservices, and distributed systems.
• Good experience with MySQL and ElasticSearch. Slight experience with other NoSQL and SQL databases.
• Experience in DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
•  Experience in delivering full-stack B2B/SaaS applications including mobile applications, web frontend, and a scalable backend.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire teams and stakeholders at all levels.

Our client has a B2C startup in the Fintech space building the payment system for the

subscription economy. We have raised pre-seed funding from some of the leading

investors in the country. A small brief about their product - To build the payment

system for the subscription economy and make it easier to discover and manage

subscription payments in India and abroad. To give subscription merchants the

power to increase their offering by providing user subscription data, multiple login

authentication, distribution and one click subscription checkouts. To enable users to

participate in the subscription economy & increase adoption of new subscriptions.

The core team come from strong backgrounds having been alumni of IIT Madras,

IIM Calcutta as well as having worked with some of the top startups in the

ecosystem including Swiggy, Mckinsey, Barclays, etc..

What we're looking for

We are looking for an experienced Python developer to join our engineering team

and help us develop our mobile application. In this role, you will be responsible for

writing and testing scalable code, developing back-end components, and integrating

user-facing elements in collaboration with front-end developers.

To be successful as a Python developer, you should possess in-depth knowledge of

object-relational mapping, experience with server-side logic, and above-average

knowledge of Python programming.

As one of the earliest members in engineering, you will have the flexibility to design

the application and systems from ground up. As any early-stage start-up, we expect

you to be comfortable wearing various hats, and be proactive contributor in building

something truly remarkable.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in Python, Django, Mongo, Express, MySQL, etc

Have built applications capable of serving high volume with low latency in

Following practices of agile development with continuous integration/deployment

limitations of Python.

Experience in deploying applications in AWS cloud

Ability to collaborate on projects and work independently when required.

Knowledge in building applications for Fintech/payments domain is a bonus

Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS or equivalent from a reputed institution

How you fit in

Engineering is the executional function of EAGLE's software delivery wing. As a senior server-side developer at Eagle, you will drive complex projects being built from scratch, and lead the junior members of the team. Not only are you expected to write clean, tested, and maintainable code, you will also be a central part of a product team that iterates constantly, ships regularly, and learns continuously. You will have the creative freedom for learning, experimenting, and responsible risk-taking in a startup environment.

What your role consists of:

• Collaborate with engineers, UI/UX designers, and product owners to build & ship new features and maintain/enhance existing ones
• Design & develop software solutions while ensuring the solution is scalable and can handle large data, complex analytics, and multi-tenancy
• Implement best practices of test-driven development, automated deployment, refactoring and code standards
• Tackle complex problems, consider multiple solutions, and determine the best course of action
• Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack
• Help inform product prioritisation and scoping decisions by evaluating technical complexity and risk
