Data Scientist

Software engineers are the lifeblood of impress.ai. They build the software that powers our platform, the dashboard that recruiters around the world use, and all the other cool things we build and release. We are looking to expand our team with highly skilled backend engineers. As backend engineers, you don’t just build backend APIs and architect databases, you help bring to production the AI prototypes our Analytics/Data team builds, and you ensure that the cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and CI/CD processes that keep us ticking are optimal. 

The Job:

The ideal candidate should have a few years of experience under the belt and have the technical skill, competencies, and maturity necessary to independently execute projects with minimal supervision. They should also have the ability to architect engineering solutions that require minimal input from senior software engineers in order to satisfy the business requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC)
• Write well-designed, testable code
• Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
• Build and integrate new software components into the Impress Platform
• Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures
• Document and maintain software functionality
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems
• Deploy programs and evaluate user feedback
• Comply with project plans and industry standards
• Develop flowcharts, layouts, and documentation to identify requirements and solutions

You Bring to the Table:

• Proven work experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer
• Proficiency in software engineering tools
• The ability to develop software in the Django framework (Python) is necessary for the role.
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and ORM technologies
• Ability to document requirements and specifications
• A BSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant field is preferred but not necessary.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering or a related field is preferred.

• Must have at least 5 to 7 years of experience in PostgreSQL.

• Sound knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) Patterns and Concepts.

• Knowledge & hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Java, and Spring Framework is a must.

• Additional knowledge of JDBC, Apache TomCat Server & relevant open-source technologies is required.

• Must have experience with Bootstrap CSS, jQuery, etc.

• Basic Understanding of the concepts of MVC (Model-View-Controller) Pattern, JDBC (Java Database

Connectivity), and RESTful web services.

• Experience in handling external and embedded databases.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Maintaining the Database, creating efficient queries, and understanding and improving the current database structure.

• Develop new modules, patches & Updates/upgrades for an existing application (developed in house by the client)

• Analyze user requirements to define business objectives.

• Maintain Java-based applications that can be high-volume and low-latency.

• Identify and resolve any technical issues arising.

• Write well-designed, testable code.

• Conducting software analysis, programming, testing, and debugging.

• Support continuous improvement, investigating alternatives and technologies, and presenting for architectural review.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Requirement understanding & analysis by interacting with client
• Carry out architectural and design discussions with fellow team members and come up with right approach
• Understand system domain, user’s perspective of system and use-cases
• Understand patterns in existing code and effectively leverage and improvise it 
• Develop backend involving Java8 based functional programming and REST services
• Ensure best practices of code reviews, automated testing and CI
• Research new tools & technologies required for the projects
• Mentor fellow team members and bring their level up

Key Skills Required :

1. Proficiency in Python 3.x based web and backend development
2. Solid understanding of Python concepts
3. Strong experience in building web applications using Django
4. Experience building REST APIs using DRF or Flask
5. Experience with some form of Machine Learning (ML)
6. Experience in using libraries such as Numpy and Pandas
7. Hands on experience with RDBMS such as Postgres or MySQL including querying
8. Comfort with Git repositories, branching and deployment using Git
9. Working experience with Docker
10. Basic working knowledge of ReactJs
11. Experience in deploying Django applications to AWS,Digital Ocean or Heroku

Responsibilities :

1. Understanding requirement and congributing to engineering solutions at a conceptual stage to provide the best possible solution to the task/challenge
2. Building high quality code using coding standards based on the SRS/Documentation
3. Building component based, maintainable, scalable and reusable backend libraries/modules.
4. Building & documenting scalable APIs on the Open Spec standard
5. Unit testing development modules and APIs
6. Conducting code reviews to ensure that the highest quality standard are maintained
7. Securing backend applications and APIs using industry best practices
8. Troubleshooting issues and fixing bugs raised by the QA team efficiently.
9. Optimizing code
10. Building and deploying the applications

• Proficient in algorithms and data structures.
• Having strong experience in designing data intensive and scalable systems.
• Comfortable with microservices based architecture.
• Knowledge of software engineering processes and unit testing.
• Past experience of mentoring a team of at least two people.
• Prior experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
• Prior experience with caching.
• Ability to debug and hotfix a problem with production in a swift amount of time.
