Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with specialization in Computer science or related field
• 4-10 years of experience as a software engineer in a product development setting
• Deep experience in Python with demonstrated ability to build modern products
• Experience in designing APIs and integration patterns, implementing secure and sustainable products with a focus on quality and scalability
• Experience in FastAPI, Django, or equivalent
• Experience in data modeling and efficient usage of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or equivalent
• Experience with modern components like async python, pedantic, sqlalchemy, alembic, celery, google products API integration, etc. is a plus
• Understanding of CI/CD practices including code check-in policies, automated unit tests, automated code deployments, etc.
• Experience in other programming languages is a plus, especially Javascript and/or Typescript
• Experience building feature-rich and scalable web apps is a plus
• Ability to grasp new technologies and use them effectively to create industrial-strength software

Egnyte is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our Engineering department. The Engineering department builds large distributed components and services that run Egnyte's Cloud Platform. Our code serves billions of requests per day with sub-second latency in a fault-tolerant environment. We process and analyze millions of files and events on a daily basis. Some of the responsibilities for this department include Egnyte's Cloud File System, Content Classification, Content Lifecycle Management, User Behavior Analysis, Object Store, Metadata Stores, Search Systems, Recommendations Systems, Synchronization, and intelligent caching of multi-petabyte datasets. We are looking for candidates with a shared passion for building large-scale distributed systems and a keen sense for tackling complexities that come with scaling through multiple orders of magnitude.

In this role, you will (But not limited to):

• Design and develop highly scalable and resilient cloud architecture that seamlessly integrates with on-premises systems
• Drive the team’s goals and technical direction to find and pursue technical opportunities that make Egnyte’s cloud platform more efficient
• Effectively communicate complex design and architecture details
• Understand company and industry-wide trends to help develop new technologies
• Conceptualize, develop, and implement changes that prevent key systems from becoming unreliable, under-utilized, or unsupported
• Own all aspects of critical software projects from design to implementation, QA, deployment, and monitoring

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or PhD. in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 8-15 years of professional experience in engineering with history of technical innovation
• Experience providing technical leadership to engineers

Bonus Qualifications (Good to Have)

• Breadth of knowledge across infrastructure domains, with the ability to reason about everything from data center machine software to database solutions to machine learning infrastructure to front-end web or mobile applications
• Demonstrated success in designing and developing large scale, complex systems
• Expertise with multi-tenant, highly complex, cloud solutions; experience with Hybrid and/or on-premises solutions desired

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, architect and develop advanced software solutions in a cross functional Agile team supporting multiple projects and initiatives
• Collaborate with product owners and/or the business on requirements definition, development of functional specifications, and design
• Collaborate on or lead development of technical design and specifications as required
• Code, test and document new applications as well as changes to existing system functionality and ensure successful completion
• Take on leadership roles as needed

Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Computer Science or related field
• 3+ years of software development experience using GoLang/Java programming language
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP/Pivotal Cloud Foundry/any private cloud) and containerization is required
• AWS - experience in extensive use of AWS offerings like Redis, Kafka etc.
• Experience with a micro-services architecture is a plus
• Excellent communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other Relational Databases
• Test-driven development mindset and a focus on quality, scalability, and performance
• Strong programming fundamentals and ability to produce high quality code
• Solid understanding of Agile (SCRUM) Development Process required

Must-Have:

Skills Required: 

• Professional and precise communication skills.
• Creating self-contained, reusable, testable modules and components..
• Extensive knowledge of CSS and JS methods for providing performance visual effects and keeping the frame rate above 30fps at all times.
• Thorough understanding of the responsibilities of the platform,  database, API, caching layer, proxies, and other web services used in the system.
• Validating user actions on the client side and providing responsive  feedback.
• Writing non-blocking code, and resorting to advanced techniques such as multithreading, when needed.
• Experience with all levels of operation available to the front-end, such as from creating XHRs in vanilla JS to using a custom wrapper around resources.
• Experience with building the infrastructure for serving the front-end app and assets.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in Backend Development
