Role Purpose:
The Mechanical Design - HVAC - primary purpose is to drive the strategic direction and technological advancement of mechanical and cooling infrastructure within our data center portfolio. This role is focused on leading research, developing innovative thermal designs, establishing global engineering standards, evaluating emerging technologies, and providing expert mechanical guidance to optimize performance, enhance scalability, and achieve sustainable outcomes for future data center deployments.
Education: Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, HVAC, or a closely related field

- Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD).
- LEED AP (Accredited Professional), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or other sustainability/energy efficiency certifications.
- Relevant certifications in HVAC, refrigeration, or specific cooling technologies
Key Responsibilities:
- Advanced Mechanical System Design & Innovation:
- Lead the research, conceptualization, and design of next-generation cooling systems for data centers, including advanced chilled water plants, direct expansion (DX) systems, adiabatic and evaporative cooling solutions, liquid cooling technologies (e.g., direct-to-chip, immersion cooling), and innovative heat rejection strategies.
- Develop groundbreaking mechanical architectures that push the boundaries of PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness), thermal density, scalability, and resilience beyond current industry norms.
- Conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, technical evaluations, and detailed cost-benefit analyses for new mechanical cooling technologies and design concepts.
- Global Mechanical Engineering Standards & Best Practices:
- Define, develop, and maintain global mechanical engineering standards, specifications, and best practices for data center design and construction, ensuring consistency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness across all regions.
- Evaluate and incorporate relevant industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, Uptime Institute, NFPA, local building codes, energy efficiency regulations) into design guidelines.
- Drive standardization of mechanical components, equipment, and processes to optimize supply chain, reduce lead times, and improve operational maintainability.
- Technology Scouting & Evaluation:
- Actively research and scout emerging mechanical technologies, disruptive innovations, and cutting-edge solutions in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and sustainable cooling relevant to data centers.
- Conduct rigorous technical due diligence, testing, and proof-of-concept initiatives for promising new mechanical technologies.
- Develop technology roadmaps for future mechanical infrastructure upgrades and deployments.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Subject Matter Expertise:
- Serve as the top-tier mechanical subject matter expert (SME) for the organization, providing advanced technical guidance and mentorship to regional engineering teams, operations, and project managers.
- Collaborate closely with Electrical, BMS/Automation, IT Infrastructure, and other Core Engineering Leads to develop integrated, holistic data center designs.
- Partner with R&D teams, vendors, and academic institutions to drive joint innovation efforts in cooling and mechanical systems.
- Performance Optimization & Future Proofing:
- Develop methodologies and tools for analyzing mechanical system performance, efficiency (PUE, WUE - Water Usage Effectiveness), thermal management effectiveness, and reliability.
- Define strategies for future-proofing mechanical infrastructure against evolving IT equipment thermal demands, climate change impacts, and sustainability goals.
- Lead initiatives for advanced thermal monitoring, controls, and predictive analytics for mechanical systems.
- Documentation & Intellectual Property:
- Generate comprehensive engineering reports, white papers, technical specifications, and design guidelines for mechanical systems.
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property (patents, trade secrets) related to data center mechanical and cooling solutions.

Job Scope
- Requirements Gathering & Designing: Liaison with SMEs to understand their Business Requirements and advise them on efficient system solutions.
