Ruby on Rails Developer

What you'll be doing:

As a Software Developer at Trential, you will be the bridge between technical strategy and hands-on execution. You will be working with our dedicated engineering team designing, building, and deploying our core platforms and APIs. You will ensure our solutions are scalable, secure, interoperable, and aligned with open standards and our core vision. Build and maintain back-end interfaces using modern frameworks.

• Design & Implement: Lead the design, implementation and management of Trential’s products.
• Code Quality & Best Practices: Enforce high standards for code quality, security, and performance through rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and continuous delivery pipelines.
• Standards Adherence: Ensure all solutions comply with relevant open standards like W3C Verifiable Credentials (VCs), Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) & Privacy Laws, maintaining global interoperability.
• Continuous Improvement: Lead the charge to continuously evaluate and improve the products & processes. Instill a culture of metrics-driven process improvement to boost team efficiency and product quality.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Co-Founders & Product Team to translate business requirements and market needs into clear, actionable technical specifications and stories. Represent Trential in interactions with external stakeholders for integrations.

What we're looking for:

• 3+ years of experience in backend development.
• Deep proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js experience in building and operating distributed, fault tolerant systems.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS & GCP) and modern DevOps practices (e.g., CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Docker).
• Strong knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases and data modeling for high-throughput, secure applications.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

• Knowledge of decentralized identity principles, Verifiable Credentials (W3C VCs), DIDs, and relevant protocols (e.g., OpenID4VC, DIDComm)
• Familiarity with data privacy and security standards (GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001) and designing systems complying to these laws.
• Experience integrating AI/ML models into verification or data extraction workflows.

Advanced Backend Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Python code. Develop complex backend services using FastAPI, MongoDB, and Postgres.

Microservices Architecture Design: Lead the design and implementation of a scalable microservices architecture, ensuring systems are robust and reliable.

Database Management and Optimization: Oversee and optimize the performance of MongoDB and Postgres databases, ensuring data integrity and security.

Message Broker Implementation: Implement and manage sophisticated message broker systems like RabbitMQ or Kafka for asynchronous processing and inter-service communication.

Git and Version Control Expertise: Utilize Git for sophisticated source code management. Lead code reviews and maintain high standards in code quality.

Project and Team Management: Manage backend development projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams. Mentor junior developers and contribute to team growth and skill development. Cloud Infrastructure Management: Extensive work with cloud services, specifically Google Cloud Platform (GCP), for deployment, scaling, and management of applications.

Performance Tuning and Optimization: Focus on optimizing applications for maximum speed, efficiency, and scalability.

Unit Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain thorough unit tests for all developed code. Lead initiatives in test-driven development (TDD) to ensure code quality and reliability.

 Security Best Practices: Implement and advocate for security best practices, data protection protocols, and compliance standards across all backend services.

Required Skills

• 4-6 years of professional experience building server applications with Node.js and the Spring framework.
• Experience working with the AWS Development stack, including: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, Cognito, Mobile Analytics, EC2 and RDS

Experience working with a handful of the following:

• relational databases: MySQL, or PostgreSQL or Oracle
• document-based data stores: MongoDB or CouchDB,
• key-value stores: DynamoDB, Redis, Memcached
• column-stores: Cassandra, Vertica
• Ability to work with front-end web technologies, like: HTML5/CSS3/Angular/Bootstrap
• Strong familiarity with *nix command line operations

2. Caching - REDIS MEMCACHED etc
3. Database - MONGO, SQL etc. min 2yrs experience with these.
4. Features created for large concurrent requests.
5. Node Js, Go lang any asynchronous programming language min 2 yrs exp with any one of them.
6. Message Queues - RABBIT MQ, Kafka etc.

Qualification

•     Total Experience level of 2 to 4 years of software development
•     Strong problem-solving skills, data structures, and algorithms
•     Experience with distributed systems handling a large amount of data
•     Excellent coding skills in any one/more among Ruby/ROR.
•     Good understanding of Web Technologies (RestFul APIs, Authentication)
•     Good understanding of Database Systems
•     Experience in working on Data Science problems is a plus
•     B.Tech/BE/M. Tech in Computer Science or equivalent

Responsibilities

We believe in a setup where our engineers get to experience most components of our platform though they might be experts in one/few areas. Here are some areas where based on your choice & experience you would be working on:

Enhancing various components of our AI platform (e.g Context engine, Feed Integration pipeline, Configuration Manager etc)

Managing bot development/on-boarding for existing/new clients which includes building Bot UI flows, integration of client APIs etc

Exploring new capabilities and integrating external systems (e.g Google Vision APIs, Greatschool.org APIs etc) into bot platforms based on use cases

Building/enhancing customer/employee facing Admin Site for reporting, setup, customer onboarding, configurations, AI training, Monitoring and alerting etc

Building/managing RESTful APIs for various features within the core bot platform

Exploring/integrating/enhancing with various third-party messaging systems (e.g FB Messenger, Twitter, Viber, Alexa, Zendesk, Salesforce etc) as these platforms evolve in capabilities

Building/managing AWS clusters for clients

Automating test cases, build process.
