About the Role

We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help build and scale the backend and AI capabilities of our Chatbot application. This is a backend-heavy role for someone who can design robust, production-grade systems in Java while also bringing hands-on experience building LLM agents and orchestration layers that power intelligent conversational experiences.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and scale backend services in Java that power the Chatbot application
• Build and integrate LLM-powered agents into the chatbot, including agent orchestration, tool use, and multi-step reasoning workflows
• Own features end-to-end — from architecture and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and iteration
• Drive technical decisions on system architecture, reliability, performance, and scalability for a backend serving real-time conversational workloads
• Lead by example — set engineering standards, review designs and code, and mentor engineers on the team
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and AI/ML teams to translate business requirements into shipped functionality
• Work directly with customers to understand real-world use cases, troubleshoot issues, and gather feedback to inform the roadmap
• Continuously improve the chatbot's conversational quality, reliability, and response accuracy

What We're Looking For

• 4–6 years of backend engineering experience, with strong, hands-on expertise in Java
• Practical experience building LLM-powered agents and agent orchestration in production systems
• Solid understanding of LLM fundamentals — prompting, tool use, reasoning, and evaluation
• Strong experience designing and building scalable, production-grade backend systems and APIs
• Ability to take technical ownership and lead design/architecture decisions with minimal oversight
• Comfort working in a fast-moving, high-ownership environment, balancing hands-on coding with technical leadership
• Excellent communication skills — this is a customer-facing role, and you'll regularly engage directly with customers to understand needs and explain technical solutions

Job Role-12 months(contract) which is extendable /permnanent

Required Skills:

• Advanced Java skills, Spring, Spring Boot, REST APIs,
• Intermediate in Design Patterns and Principles
• Application is moving into PCF  any cloud native experience is helpful
• DB:  Oracle, SQL Server, RDBMS
• Network Infrastructure knowledge is helpful (work with network support team to troubleshoot)
• Production support skills are highly preferred.
• CI/ CD knowledge is helpful
• Junit for unit testing
• Java certifications are a huge plus

Job Description:

• Participate in and lead day to day system development and maintenance activities of the team to meet service level agreements (SLAs) and create solutions with high level of innovation, cost effectiveness, high quality and faster time to market.
• Accountable for full systems development life cycle including creating high quality requirements documents, use-cases, design and other technical artifacts including but not limited to detailed test strategy/test design, performance benchmarking, release rollout and deployment plans, contingency/back-out plans, feasibility study, cost and time analysis and detailed estimates.
• Research and evaluate current and upcoming technologies and frameworks.
• Participate in PoCs (Proof of Concept) and help the Department with selection of Vendor Solutions, Technologies, Methodologies and Frameworks.
• Collaborate with Vendor Resources for Support of Products.
• Conduct brownbag sessions on new and upcoming technologies, methodologies and application appropriate frameworks. Ensure knowledge transfer of vendor technology to *** staff. Provide technical training to the other team members.
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in related field.
• Broad understanding of Software Engineering Concepts and Methodologies is required.

Function: Technology

Purpose of the Job:

The Developer will be part of a cross-functional Scrum team responsible for designing, developing, and testing diverse features of Airtel Payments Bank agile stream. Payments bank values software engineers who are motivated, creative, passionate and positive. You must be comfortable working closely with others and have solid communication skills. Software engineers who learn quickly and have strong technical skills will thrive at Airtel Payments Bank. You must have considerable experience with object-oriented programming and should be familiar with design patterns, data structures, database and other staples of practical software development

Key Deliverables :

• Research, design, implement and managing software programs
• Test and evaluate new programs
• Identify the areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications

Skills Required:

• Should have experience of working on Core Java/J2EE & OOPS concept
• Should be well versed with Spring/Struts & Apache Camel (OSGI Framework)
• Should have a good understanding of Hibernate and Other ORMs
• Technical design, implementation, deployment, and support.
• Perform development and unit testing, working closely with Business.
• Web Service (SOAP/REST) , Maven
• Build tool such as Jenkins
• Caching Technique(Radis, Hazlecast, aerospike)
• Database Knowledge - Oracle, MySQL

Qualification: Technical background (BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline/experience)

• 4+ years of professional development experience in an agile software engineering role
