Key Responsibilities

Performance Optimization & Query Tuning

  • Tune query performance for PostgreSQL, EdgeDB, MongoDB Atlas, and Snowflake.

  • Analyze execution plans, identify bottlenecks, and implement indexing & caching strategies.

  • Work with engineering teams to optimize schema design for OLTP (Postgres/EdgeDB) and metadata storage (MongoDB).

Database Architecture & Scalability

  • Design multi-tenant scaling strategies for PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas (schema, sharding, partitioning).

  • Implement high-availability, replication, and clustering configurations.

  • Optimize Snowflake warehouse configurations for query speed and cost control.

Operational Excellence

  • Plan and execute zero-downtime database upgrades and schema migrations.

  • Set up proactive monitoring, alerting, and anomaly detection across all database systems.

  • Manage capacity planning for storage and compute resources across Postgres, MongoDB Atlas, and Snowflake.

Storage & Cost Optimization

  • Reduce storage costs via archiving, partitioning, compression, and lifecycle policies.

  • Optimize Snowflake compute and storage usage with warehouse tuning and data pruning.

  • Implement tiered storage strategies for cold vs. hot data.

Security, Compliance & Governance

  • Enforce encryption, access controls, and audit logging across all databases.

  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, SOC 2, and other relevant regulations.

Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

  • Partner with backend, platform, and data engineering teams to ensure efficient database usage.

  • Provide training and documentation on query best practices and schema design.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 7+ years DBA experience, with deep expertise in PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas.

  • Strong understanding of multi-tenant architectures in production.

  • Experience with Snowflake query optimization, warehouse tuning, and cost management.

  • Proven success in executing zero-downtime upgrades and large-scale migrations.

  • Strong skills in query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and sharding.

  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, SQL) for automation.

  • Hands-on experience with monitoring tools (pg_stat_statements, Atlas monitoring, Snowflake Resource Monitors, Prometheus, Grafana).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with EdgeDB or graph/relational hybrid databases.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes-based database deployments (StatefulSets, Operators).

  • Background in distributed caching (Redis, Memcached).

💥 What will you do?

As a Lead Backend Engineer, you will

• Build out and help scale our Django (+ReactJS / VueJS) based web application as we add new features and customers

• Help us transition from monolithic system architecture to microservices and serverless system architecture to help meet our future scaling requirements

• Collaborate on a daily basis with a small, nimble team of product managers, engineers, and UX designers to understand business requirements and user experience goals and pain points.
• Build out features to enable multi-channel customer acquisition include partner channels, enterprise channels, and government channels
• Integrate third-party plugins to enhance customer experience and internal tooling build internal tooling to improve internal team efficiencies.
• Actively participate in code reviews
• Work with our quality assurance team to improve coverage on our automated testing suites

• Prior experience of a few years (3+ years) with python based frameworks as Django or Flask would be essential to work on our application stack.

📢 Other information you may want to consider 

• We will be flexible for the rest of the pandemic and work remotely; however, we are not a remote-first company, and the work location would be Bangalore when things settle.
• Our backend tech stack includes Django, FastAPI, Postgres, Redis, Clickhouse, and TigerGraph. Our environments are managed through Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform.

Key Accountabilities

Responsibilities will include but will not be restricted to:

 Designing and developing solutions at middleware and integration layer

 Ensure the best standards are followed for integrating with multiple upstream and downstream

applications

 Documenting and Developing APIs which are fault tolerant, performance oriented and allow for publishing

across multiple sources

 Ensure management of the interfaces on the WSO2 EI platform

 Ensure continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and debugging

 Ensuring that the integrations development is part of the overall CI/CD pipeline

 Working with stakeholders to ensure that integration solutions meet business requirements and are

delivered on time

Technical Requirements

 A Bachelor’s degree in Computer science, software engineering, or any other equivalent field

 Has 6+ years of experience in the field of software engineering or software development

 Experience with WSO2 middleware technologies like WSO2 Enterprise Integrator (EI), WSO2 API Manager,

and WSO2 Identity Server

 Experience in developing multiple type interfaces such as SOAP, REST, WebHooks, GraphQL and having

knowledge of working on changing one type to other

 Software development skills including proficiency in a modern programming language such as

Java/C++/Python/Golang.

 The ideal candidate should have worked on application development within an enterprise ecosystem.

 The person should also have the necessary knowledge to connect to systems like mail, DB, external

systems, or APIs etc.

 Ideally the person should have demonstrated creating common interfaces or adapters for interactions

between heterogeneous systems with least amount of code change or no code change at all on both the

integrating systems.

 The person needs to be hands on and should be able to write code and review the code of teammates.

We are looking for Tech Leads working with our Application Engineering team, designing, and developing a variety of applications. More specifically, you will:

• Determine the functional, non-functional requirements and scope working with the business analysts and engineering managers
