As an AI Engineer, you’ll be part of a high-caliber engineering team building next-gen AI systems that:

• Power robust APIs and platforms used by underwriters, credit analysts, and financial institutions.
• Build and integrate GenAI agents.
• Enable “human-in-the-loop” workflows for high-assurance decisions in real-world conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and optimize ML/DL models for document understanding, classification, and summarization.
• Apply LLMs and RAG techniques for validation, search, and question-answering tasks.
• Design and maintain data pipelines for structured and unstructured inputs (PDFs, OCR text, JSON, etc.).
• Package and deploy models as REST APIs or microservices in production environments.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate models into existing products and workflows.
• Continuously monitor and retrain models to ensure reliability and performance.
• Stay updated on emerging AI frameworks, architectures, and open-source tools; propose improvements to internal systems.

Required Skills & Experience

• 2–5 years of hands-on experience in AI/ML model development, fine-tuning, and building ML solutions.
• Strong Python proficiency with libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
• Solid understanding of transformers, embeddings, and NLP pipelines.
• Experience working with LLMs (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and frameworks like LangChain.
• Exposure to OCR, document parsing, and unstructured text analytics.
• Familiarity with model serving, APIs, and microservice architectures (FastAPI, Flask).
• Working knowledge of Docker, cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong grasp of data preprocessing, evaluation metrics, and model validation workflows.
• Excellent problem-solving ability, structured thinking, and clean, production-ready coding practices.

How you will help us achieve it

As an Applied AI Engineer, you will collaborate with the company founders, product team, and office managers to develop agentic workflows for many of their daily processes. You will ideate, design, implement, and maintain the software side of the product. You will design the UX, develop the front end interfaces, build backend routes and design database models. The bulk of this role is interacting with office managers to understand their workflows and then creating and managing AI agents & workflows to make them more efficient.

In your day to day, you will:

• Partner with our frontline staff to understand their work so you can automate it with AI and save them time
• Live on the cutting edge of Human & AI interactions, keeping up to date with the latest patterns and how they apply to WorkHero and our workflows
• Contribute to exceptional code quality and performance of the code base
• Mentor young engineer(s) to be great at their craft, as our team grows

Key Details

• You can work remotely from anywhere with an overlap of at least four hours with the product team (6 pm to 10 pm IST)
• This role involves participating in calls with US-based stakeholders
• The compensation comes with a salary and an equity component

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in building software products
• Have created applications using AI and LLMs. Can understand when to prompt, use RAG, create agents or fine-tune an LLM
• Have solid experience with the MERN stack
• Ability to debug and optimize complex systems
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Bonus points if you have

• Experience in mentoring junior team members. Better if they had gone to replace you in your team, allowing you to take up a more meaningful role
• Familiarity with our tech stack (React, Koa, Mongo, AWS, React Native)
• A good understanding of UX best practices for SaaS based interfaces & AI
• Built apps using React Native
• A deep understanding of infrastructure and can optimize for cost
• Set up evaluation frameworks for agentic workflows
• Contributed to open-source projects

Your First Six Months

• You will be working on creating AI Agents/Workflows based on the playbooks for some of the crucial workflows of HVAC office managers
• You will work on building the frontend, APIs and apply AI knowledge to add features to the office manager and admin portal, as well as the mobile app
• You will be using Vercel AI SDK to create abstracted AI agents and workflows with the capability of falling back to different providers
• You will demo the agentic workflows to US-based stakeholders—small HVAC business owners, product team and office managers
• You will monitor and manage the AI Workflows, ensuring quality and accuracy, improving them over time

Roles and Responsibilities

Code, develop, design and architect features related to the existing application. We  expect you to own modules end to end and take pride in the work products you  ship.

Lead from the front, when it comes to delivering high quality work products. Serve as a mentor to the team members

Create and define performance metrics. Ideate, innovate and hack through the  existing systems to improve performance

Perform code reviews, set coding practices and guidelines within the team.

Make sense of the product specs, be nimble in getting the issues resolved. Be a thought leader.

Critical Functional Skills

Solid understanding and knowledge of Java/C/C++. You should understand the concepts of multithreading, I/O, messaging, instrumentation etc and their  implementation in Java/Any other ObjectOriented Language.

Proficiency in the implementation of algorithms and the use of advanced data  structures to solve problems in computing. A solid foundation in the principles of  computer science is desired.

Ability to write clean, modular, and loosely coupled code by the use of design patterns.

He/She should be able to break down and architect complex software systems. For example

Strong decisionmaking ability

Deep expertise in at least one programming language & tech stack.

Substantial experience in building complex and scalable solutions.

Strong object oriented design skills, ability to apply design patterns, and an uncanny ability to design intuitive module and class level interfaces

The ability to do deep problem solving and build elegant, maintainable solutions to complex problems.

Experience leading multi engineer projects and mentoring junior engineers

Experience with full life cycle development in any programming language on a Linux platform

Comprehensive operational experience including, optimizations, deployments and tuning servers like apache/mysql/tomcat/solr

Prior experience in working with Agile software methodologies (XP, Scrum), TDD, and Continuous Integration(CI/CD) a plus.

Experience in building data driven web application design and development is a plus

Expert level experience in building a scalable, large and complex business application

Must have lead, designed, architected and delivered at least 1 project in his previous assignments independently.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Btech/MS from a reputed Institute

Deep expertise with any or combination programming languages: Java, C++, C#, Ruby, Scala,
