PRINCIPAL ENGINEER – JOB DESCRIPTION

It is a YCombinator, Sequoia Capital and GFC funded start-up building digital solutions for women with chronic health conditions in India. We are the leading player in treating PCOS, a chronic condition that
affects 100 million women in India alone. Healthcare is one of the fastest growing industries globally and desperately needs disruption in women’s health. Our vision is to be the first and only digital solution women turn to for healthcare needs throughout their lifeime.

What you’ll do:
As our Principal Engineer, you will drive 0-to-1 innovation at a fast-growing digital health start-up to transform the lives of hundreds of millions of women living with chronic conditions. In the future, this role will grow into a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) position as we expand further into the multi-billion-dollar undisrupted market that is women’s health. You will work with a world-class team (McKinsey, UnitedHealth, ex-IIT, Wharton) and pedigreed investors to directly shape our engineering culture from the ground up. You will drive innovation across our consumer and doctor-facing products (app + website + backend) while leading & building out a high-performing engineering team.

Qualifications:
• 2+ years of professional experience working with React Native.
• 2+ years of professional experience working with NodeJS.
• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience working with Typescript required.
• Experience working with Swift, Objective C, and Java a plus but not required.
• Ability to take extreme ownership over your work. Every day is a challenge to ensure you are performing to the expectations you and your team have agreed upon, both in regards to estimates and to the
general process.
• Ability to identify with the goals of Veera Health's customers and dedicate yourself to delivering on the commitments you and your team make to them.
• An understanding of React Native best practices and a commitment to following them.
Ability to create and maintain continuous integration and delivery of React Native applications.
• Communication skills (ability to effectively communicate via written and spoken English).

Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a team to build React Native iOS / Android applications for Veera Health's customers.
• Demonstrated collaboration and interpersonal skills to work across multiple levels, ranging from being in the trenches with our care operations team to working with the Founders.
• Architect, build and maintain excellent React Native applications with clean code.
• Implement pixel perfect UI's that match designs.
• Implement clean, modern,smooth animations and transitionsthat provide an excellent user experience.
• Integrate third-party API's.
• Write unit and integration tests.
• Release applications to the Apple and Google Play stores.
• Work with native modules when required.
• Work with modern tools including Linear, Slack, GitHub, Notion, etc

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience as an engineer or a lead - solving real-world customer problems
• 3-5 years of experience as a manager - having led high value delivering engineering teams
• BE / B. Tech /M. Tech from a premier institute - preferably in Computer Science
• Proven track record of building and managing high performing engineering teams
• The ability to convince, negotiate and work with equally competent and smart stakeholders
• Experience building complex technical solutions - highly scalable service-oriented architectures, distributed cloud-based systems - which power our FinTech products
• Proven ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to
• executives and non-technical leaders

9+ years relevant experience in consumer tech/ or SaaS space
b. Strong Technical Background:
i. Strong grasp of Nodejs/Python stack
ii. Strong programming, architecture, DevOps and QA chops.
iii. Experience working with a diverse engineering stack in a fast-paced
environment
iv. Databases/Datastores : Mysql, Redis / Memcache, MongoDB
v. Basic Understanding of Android, iOS, Web Application stacks
vi. One of SQS, RabbitMQ, SNS
vii. Familiarity with AWS and its services including RDS, ECS, EBS,
Cloudwatch, ELK, Redshift
viii. Nice to have -
1. Logging : ELK, Cloudwatch.
2. Frontend : html , css , Javascript
3. Protocols : HTTP, XMPP, MQTT, Socket.io, TC
c. Prior management and team-building experience. You'll be managing several direct reports initially and will have the opportunity to scale and build out a

Role: Technical Manager

What you must know?
Hands on technical experience with architecting and building a large scale product
, He/She should have flair for technology & business, be eager to take up challenging
assignments in global setup and have relevant experience working with b2b startups in
growth stage targeting global markets based out of India.

Roles & responsibilities
• Lead a team of talented 10+ engineers (developers and QA) through all stages of product
development and delivery ( requirement gather, requirement detailing, design,
development, testing, release )
• Hire, mentor and develop engineers to create high-performing teams
• Identify, coach and retain engineering talent and strengthen software development teams
• Provide constructive feedback and mentor team members to go to next level
• Build and maintain good relationship with peers, product management, architects,
customer support, HR, talent acquisition team and other cross-functional teams
• Work closely with engineering leaders and product managers for product delivery
• Contribute in engineering management team activities like, hiring, onboarding,
performance appraisal, skill management,release planning and delivery etc.
• Provide technical leadership to software engineers to build a high quality software product
• Collaborate with Internal/external stakeholder to enhance the quality of engineering
deliverables
• Establish and promote a culture of excellence with end-to-end ownership for delivery
• Ensure complete solution design in collaboration with product management, architects
and technical leads
• Participate in the creation of engineering roadmap based on organization strategy
• Drive execution of quarterly releases and a roadmap of next year.
• Analyze customer issues, suggest and implement a practise to address and improve
customer satisfaction about the product
• Hands on coding and contribute in code reviews
• Identify,develop and improve engineering practices for development, QA, devops and agile
implementation.
• Build and monitor team performance metrics.

What will qualify you for this role?:
• 13+ years experience with 2+ years in managerial capacity leading a team of 10+
developers
• Hands on technical experience with architecting and building a large scale product
• Experience with modern devops tools and technologies
• Proactive and solutions-oriented with experience in working in ambiguity
• Excellent coding and debugging in one of the languages java/python/React
• Good understanding of distributed architecture, microservice etc
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure. Knowledge of AWS would be an added advantage.
• Experience with setting up/tracking engineering matrices

Skills you are expected to have :

- Hands-on experience in advanced Golang, Python, PHP, Reactjs, React Native PWA, Javascript, AWS Cloud Services.

- Deep understanding of technologies, high level design, low level design in a secure, scalable and available set-up.

- Deep understanding & expertise with highly transactional, large relational and complex systems.

- Hands-on experience in system design, architecture or developing distributed systems.

- Should be good in writing code keeping scalability, flexibility and monitoring at center.

- Good understanding of source control tools GIT, Jira and Bitbucket, code reviews etc.

- Preferable experience in Django and Laravel frameworks, but not limited to these only.

- Experience in the development of robust and scalable Rest APIs and APIs testing tools such as postman etc.

- Experience in micro service-based development would be a plus.

- Experience in queuing systems such as rabbitMQ, Active MQ would be a plus.

- Experience in AWS cloud services.

- Experience and understanding of CI/CD pipeline.

- Good analytical and communication skills.

- Candidates from the fintech domain would be preferred (Payments/ Banking/ Wallets/ Insurance/ Financial Markets).

Requirements
● B.E/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.
● 10+ years or more of progressive software technology experience with at least 3 years in
management role.
● Completely hands on with technology and architecture. Start-up experience is a huge plus.
● Excellent and robust understanding of scalable product system architecture(s), platforms and core technologies
● Demonstrated problem-solving and leadership skills to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions. Ability to embrace and demonstrate leadership beyond ownership
● Provide thought leadership to setup and manage processes.
● Ability to work in a very agile, fast-paced environment with changing requirements.
● Ability to work efficiently in an entrepreneurial and in a start-up environment
● A good understanding of Java/Spring/Akka, Javascript or Golang.
● Hands on knowledge of some of these technologies - MySQL, NodeJS, message brokers such as Kafka/RabbitMQ, NoSQL datastore such as Mongo, Cassandra, Arango, distributed caches such as Redis/memcached, container technology such as Docker and Kubernetes etc. is a big plus.
● Great proficiency in distributed systems design, with an ability to make the right trade-offs for creating future-proof solutions.
● Ability to build a product end-to-end with the help of multiple engineering teams

• Worked on REST frameworks/libraries like Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Dropwizard, REST Express etc

• Worked on Relational data stores viz. MySQL, Oracle, or Postgres
• Worked on Non-relational data stores viz. Cassandra, HBase, Couchbase, MongoDB, etc
• Worked on caching infra viz. Redis, Memcached, Aerospike, Riak, etc
• Worked on Queueing infra viz. Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ etc
