We are looking for a skilled Java Backend Engineer who is passionate about building scalable, high-performance applications. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Java, data structures, databases, and modern frameworks, along with experience deploying solutions on AWS and managing CI/CD pipelines.

What Will You Be Doing?

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring frameworks.
• Implement efficient algorithms and data structures for complex problem-solving.
• Integrate and manage relational databases (preferably RDS) with Java applications.
• Deploy and manage services on AWS infrastructure (EC2, SQS, RDS, etc.).
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar) for seamless delivery.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable solutions.
• Ensure code quality, performance, and security best practices.
• Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing.

What Makes You the Perfect Fit?

• Strong proficiency in Java and data structures/algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with Spring frameworks (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, etc.).
• Proficiency in working with databases (SQL, schema design, query optimization).
• Practical experience with AWS services (EC2, SQS, RDS, IAM, etc.).
• Experience in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Good understanding of version control using Git/GitHub.
• Solid problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, ELK, Prometheus, etc.).

Role Overview

As an SDE 2 Back-end Engineer at Astra, you will play a crucial role in the development of a new vulnerability scanner from scratch. You will be architecting & engineering a scalable technical solution from the ground-up.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside talented individuals, collaborating to deliver innovative solutions and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in vulnerability scanning. The role requires deep collaboration with the founders, product, engineering & security teams.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• You will be joining our Vulnerability Scanner team which builds a security engine to identify vulnerabilities in technical infrastructure.
• You will be the technical product owner of the scanner, which would involve managing a lean team of backend engineers to ensure smooth implementation of the technical product roadmap.
• Research about security vulnerabilities, CVEs, and zero-days affecting cloud/web/API infrastructure.
• Work in an agile environment of engineers to architect, design, develop and build our microservice infrastructure.
• You will research, design, code, troubleshoot and support (on-call). What you create is also what you own.
• Writing secure, high quality, modular, testable & well documented code for features outlined in every sprint.
• Design and implement APIs in support of other services with a highly scalable, flexible, and secure backend using GoLang
• Hands-on experience with creating production-ready code & optimizing it by identifying and correcting bottlenecks.
• Driving strict code review standards among the team.
• Ensuring timely delivery of the features/products
• Working with product managers to ensure product delivery status is transparent & the end product always looks like how it was imagined
• Work closely with Security & Product teams in writing vulnerability detection rules, APIs etc.

Required Qualifications & Skills: 

• Strong 2-4 years relevant development experience in GoLang
• Experience in building a technical product from idea to production.
• Design and build highly scalable and maintainable systems in Golang
• Expertise in Goroutines and Channels to write efficient code utilizing multi-core CPU optimally
• Must have hands-on experience with managing AWS/Google Cloud infrastructure
• Hands on experience in creating low latency high throughput REST APIs
• Write test suites and maintain code coverage above 80%
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka
• Good to have experience in Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka
• Good understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms and Operating Systems.
• Understanding of cloud/web security concepts would be an added advantage

• 6 + years of Hands-on development and delivery experience with Java, Scala, and the likes
• Passion for software engineering and craftsman-like coding prowess
• Great OO skills, including strong design patterns knowledge
• Experience working with Agile, TDD, Lean, and/or Continuous Delivery approaches and best practices, such as Extreme Programming (XP)
• Enthusiastic to work collaboratively with people and sharing your ideas to solve real business problems

• • You’re proficient in NodeJS, TypeScript, MySQL, and MongoDB
  • You possess strong OOP and design pattern knowledge
  • Familiar with modern engineering practices: Code Reviews, Continuous Deployment, Automated Testing, etc
  • You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability and experienced with TDD (Test Driven Development)
  • You’ve the ability to build RESTful APIs
  • Explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support team, and fellow engineers is not a problem for you
  • Well versed with the fundamentals of computer science and distributed systems
  • FrontEnd experience; (Good to have) Angular
  • Startup experience, preferably a tech startup
  • Open Source contributor
  • You have experience with other programming languages -- e.g. Python, Ruby, PHP, Go, C, etc.
  • Passionate about/experienced with open source and developer tools
  • You have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
