Tazapay is a platform for enabling trust in cross-border commerce. Lack of trust is one of the biggest inhibitors for B2B cross-border business. Buyers and sellers tend to work only with known and trusted parties, thereby limiting their business opportunities. Our platform will enable access to various services for doing cross-border trade safely - such as payment protections via escrow, formalising trade agreements with digitally signed agreements, and counterparty risk assessment. Our goal is to enhance trust in the trade process so that SMBs feel confident about doing more business with overseas counterparties.
We are backed by Sequoia and Saison Capital and founded by 3 seasoned professionals with extensive experience in payments, ecommerce, technology, cross-border trade, and high-growth technology businesses. We are hiring and looking for people who share our passion and belief in enabling opportunities for small businesses. We believe the world will look very different after this pandemic, as it did after the second world war and the financial crisis of 2008. We foresee a gigantic acceleration towards digitisation, especially in the B2B space, which has lagged behind B2C peers. The pandemic will change that equation.
We are conscious of the challenges; however, the most iconic companies are often founded in times of such upheavals. We believe our odds are better because of the opportunity to configure ourselves at a very young stage for the new world without the pressure to defend existing revenue streams, headcount balancing, or pivoting the business model. We are better prepared to seize the opportunities this new world throws at us.

About the Backend Engineer role
Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
- Design, write and deliver highly scalable, reliable and fault tolerant systems with minimal guidance
- Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards
- Partner with the product management team to define and execute the feature roadmap
- Translate business requirements into scalable and extensible design
- Proactively manage stakeholder communication related to deliverables, risks, changes and dependencies
- Coordinate with cross functional teams (Mobile, DevOps, Data, UX, QA etc.) on planning and execution
- Continuously improve code quality, product execution, and customer delight
- Willingness to learn new languages and methodologies
- An enormous sense of ownership
- Engage in service capacity and demand planning, software performance analysis, tuning and optimization
The Ideal Candidate
Education
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in commercial software development in large distributed systems
Experience
- Hands-on experience in designing, developing, testing and deploying applications on Golang, Ruby,Python, .Net Core or Java for large scale applications
- Deep knowledge of Linux as a production environment
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and asynchronous architectures
- Expert in at least 1 of the following languages: Golang, Python, Ruby, Java, C, C++
- Proficient in OOP, including design patterns.
- Ability to design and implement low latency RESTful services
- Hands-on coder who has built backend services that handle high volume traffic.
- Strong understanding of system performance and scaling
- Possess excellent communication, sharp analytical abilities with proven design skills, able to think critically of the current system in terms of growth and stability
- Data modeling experience in both Relational and NoSQL databases
- Continuously refactor applications to ensure high-quality design
- Ability to plan, prioritize, estimate and execute releases with good degree of predictability
- Ability to scope, review and refine user stories for technical completeness and to alleviate dependency risks
- Passion for learning new things, solving challenging problems
- Ability to get stuff done!
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Golang ecosystem
- Familiarity with running web services at scale; understanding of systems internals and networking are a plus
- Be familiar with HTTP/HTTPS communication protocols.

About the Frontend Engineer role
Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
- Lead core development efforts for our front-end applications, ensuring high-quality code that is performant, scalable, secure and maintainable.
- Collaborate closely with the product team to understand user needs and translate them into exceptional user interfaces (UI).
- Partner with the design team to achieve pixel-perfect implementation while maintaining and evolving our design systems.
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable JavaScript with a focus on performance optimization and scalability.
- Champion the use of modern build tools like Vite to streamline development workflows.
- Implement effective unit tests to ensure code quality and stability.
- Take complete ownership of features, from initial discussions with the product manager to incorporating customer feedback.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of modern front-end architecture and best practices.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience
- Proven experience as a senior frontend engineer with a strong track record of building and shipping complex web applications.
- In-depth knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), Tailwind CSS, Git, npm, and Sentry.
- Familiarity with integration of front-end with backend web services.
- Strong experience with a popular front-end framework like React, Angular, or Vue.js (Vue.js experience a plus).
- Prior experience developing and maintaining a UI component library.
- Familiarity with modern build tools like Vite and a passion for exploring new technologies.
- Understanding of Git version control and experience with GitHub workflows.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Advanced knowledge in web security best practices to write secure and robust front-end code
