Responsible for data model curation: 

• Using LookML, update existing Looker data models (views and explores) to adapt to new business concepts and demand for new data elements (dimensions and measures).
• Development will follow an established design pattern using a combination of LookML, SQL and Liquid parameters in Looker to provide highly interactive capabilities for self-service reporting users.
• Data model designs and enhancements will be validated for data quality, accuracy and tested for query performance and responsiveness.
• Documentation in the Looker data dictionary will be updated to support new (or changed) data elements.

 Dashboard development and enhancements:

•  Modify and develop dashboards to address the need for new insights and analysis.
•  Dashboard will be deployed as LookML dashboard files via a structured Github code review process with style validation and performance testing.
•  Draft documentation to support new dashboard content or modifications.

 Analytics support for custom reporting and analysis:

• Respond to requests for adhoc analysis or custom reporting from internal and external stakeholders.
• Work with the team and customers to define clear questions to be asked of the data, and use a combination of SQL and Looker exploration to develop answers and insights.
• Transform adhoc analysis into ongoing production reporting by translating SQL or Looker exploration into defined LookML model/view structures and published dashboards.
• Will help with data quality monitoring by reviewing dashboard metrics and values to help detect anomalies in reporting.

Skills and Experience

•  Experience with Looker BI: building models, views, explores and dashboards using LookML and SQL, dashboard development using SQL, LookML and Liquid Parameters.
• Experience working in a distributed team development environment using GitHub source control and Jira for sprint planning and user story tracking.
• Experience writing SQL to query database tables, Redshift syntax familiarity preferred.
• Background in analytics or statistics is a plus

What you’ll be doing

First, you will be writing tests. You’ll be writing self-explanatory, clean code. Your code will produce the same, predictable results, over and over again. You’ll be making frequent, small releases. You’ll be working in pairs. You’ll be doing peer code reviews.

You will work in a product team. Building products and rapidly rolling out new features and fixes.

You will be responsible for all aspects of development – from understanding requirements, writing stories, analyzing the technical approach to writing test cases, development, deployment, and fixes. You will own the entire stack from the front end to the back end to the infrastructure and DevOps pipelines. And, most importantly, you’ll be making a pledge that you’ll never stop learning!

What You’ll do as a Senior Software Craftsperson:

• Your typical day will include attending Agile standups, designing components or services, writing lots of code, testing and integrating your code, and reviewing others’ code.
• You’ll participate in and contribute to Agile team activities. You’ll help estimate the amount of time and effort projects will take as part of the sprint cycle.
• You’ll ensure software engineering best practices, coding standards and patterns for development and deployment.
• You’ll investigate alerts about possible errors in the system. You’ll help solve outages, participate in retrospectives, and implement countermeasures to prevent similar issues from recurring.
• You’ll create tools and documentation for internal teams like Client Delivery to understand how the systems work and to enable them to onboard customers in a timely manner with minimal support from Engineering.
