Staff Engineer :
Job Description
Egnyte is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our Engineering department. The Engineering department builds large distributed components and services that run Egnyte's Cloud Platform. Our code serves billions of requests per day with sub-second latency in a fault-tolerant environment. We process and analyze millions of files and events daily. Some of the responsibilities for this department include Egnyte's Cloud File System, Content Classification, Content Lifecycle Management, User Behavior Analysis, Object Store, Metadata Stores, Search Systems, Recommendations Systems, Synchronization, and intelligent caching of multi-petabyte datasets. We are looking for candidates with a shared passion for building large-scale distributed systems and a keen sense for tackling complexities that come with scaling through multiple orders of magnitude.
In this role, you will (But are not limited to):
- Design and develop highly scalable and resilient cloud architecture that seamlessly integrates with on-premises systems
- Drive the team’s goals and technical direction to find and pursue technical opportunities that make Egnyte’s cloud platform more efficient
- Effectively communicate complex design and architecture details
- Understand company and industry-wide trends to help develop new technologies
- Conceptualize, develop, and implement changes that prevent key systems from becoming unreliable, under-utilized, or unsupported
- Own all aspects of critical software projects from design to implementation, QA, deployment, and monitoring
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD. in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

- Experience providing technical leadership to engineers

WHAT YOU’LL DO & QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years managing backend or infrastructure teams (including managing senior and staff engineers).
- Proven track record operating high-scale production systems— petabyte-scale, with tens of thousands of requests per second or more.
- Deep, hands-on expertise with object stores or distributed storage systems, including consistent hashing, quorum and replication protocols, erasure coding, storage tiering, compaction, garbage collection, and the trade-offs in an S3-style API.
- Strong systems fundamentals: storage, networking, OS, concurrency, and performance engineering.
Technical skills:
- Strong coding ability in Java and Python.
- Production experience with the surrounding stack: nginx,
- HAProxy, Redis, MySQL. Practical experience running
- workloads on GCP and Azure, and a working knowledge of
- AWS S3 (API semantics, consistency model, operational
- behavior).
- Experience with observability, capacity planning, and cost
- engineering at scale.
Leadership:
- A player-coach mindset — leading through clarity of technical
- vision, strong hiring, and high standards, not through distance
- from the work.
- Track record of building durable, inclusive teams and
- developing engineers into tech leads and managers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.

- encryption-at-rest, and compliance regimes (SOC 2, HIPAA,
- FedRAMP, GDPR).
- Experience running multi-region, multi-cloud storage
- footprints and managing petabyte-scale migrations

Egnyte is looking for a Performance Engineer to join our performance engineering team. As a Performance Engineer, you will drive proactive monitoring and improve automation for regular operational tasks.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Develop tools to measure & monitor performance bottlenecks within the application
- Triage reported performance issues and translate them into reproducible test scenarios
- Collaborate with production Engineering and application engineering teams to design and execute production scenarios that will assess code and 3rd party performance
- Develop and run PSR tests and measure stats for them
- Work with various sub teams to ensure SLA of their core apis are tracked and maintained release over release
- Application and architecture code profiling
- Infrastructure and application performance tuning
- Troubleshooting performance issues
- Ability to distill volumes of data, analyze performance results, and diagnose performance problems
- Capacity estimating, modeling, or planning
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. Advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of work experience in performance engineering
- Expert knowledge and strong experience using tools, LoadRunner/JMeter etc. and understanding of APM solutions like Grafana, AppDynamics, Dynatrace etc
- Experience with microservice architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Azure, GCP and application monitoring tools
- Strong expertise on monitoring and analyzing application logs, database reports, system metrics like CPU Utilization, Memory usage, Network usage, Garbage Collection and DB Parameters
- Strong expertise on identifying potential performance issues and providing recommendations to improve performance
- Proficiency in JVM technology and JVM troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in debugging application in production at a large scale
- JVM Profiling, GC Analysis and Tuning experience
- Experience with Performance, Load, Stress, and Scalability Testing
