Technical Project Manager

About the Role -

We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Java Engineer to drive the development of our B2B product suite. In this pivotal role, you will build robust, scalable, and intuitive applications that empower customers to seamlessly handle money movement transactions, including international payments. You will ensure technical excellence by advocating best practices, prioritizing security, enhancing development processes, and championing a quality-first mindset.

What You'll Do -

• Design and Development: Create robust, efficient, and scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.

• API Development: Design, build, and maintain APIs for web and mobile applications.

• Performance and Security: Ensure application performance, scalability, and security best practices.

• Cloud Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cloud services into our backend infrastructure.

• Code Quality: Write high-quality, maintainable code that adheres to industry standards.

• Mentorship: Support junior and mid-level team members, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

What You’ll Need -

• 5+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer.

• Experience showing strong problem-solving skills and a passion for creating user-centric solutions.

• Core Java proficiency. A strong command of the Java language, including object-oriented programming, design patterns, exception handling, and memory management.

• Spring Framework (including Spring Boot)- In-depth knowledge of Spring, especially Spring Boot for building efficient and scalable backend applications.

• Understanding of Spring components like controllers, services, repositories, and security.

• RESTful API Development: Proficiency in designing and implementing RESTful APIs.

Bonus Points -

• Mastery over Java’s core APIs, such as collections, streams, and concurrency frameworks.

• Experience within a B2B fintech environment would be highly desirable

• Database-driven performance query optimization and Kafka messaging systems

About the job

We want to talk to you if:

• You've built multiple, kick-ass Chrome extensions
• You've built commercial apps using chat frameworks (e.g. Chat 21/Getstream.io etc.)
• You are a React.JS, Node.JS, Javascript, & Postgres wiz
• You have experience building multi-platform apps (Web + mobile web)
• Have built or implemented integration frameworks at scale (or experience with iPaaS frameworks)
• You are obsessive about clean, optimized & scalable code with copious documentation
• You are excited about building out a team and have aspirations to become a CTO

Having B2B SaaS Startup experience is preferred and a big plus

Duties Include

• Develop + understand the technological roadmap
• Develop feature rollout systems and processes
• Develop strategies and solutions from customer discovery sessions
• Hire + manage outside/contracted engineering talent
• Scale while staying lean through the early stages up to fundraising
• Oversee ClickUp for project and product management, roadmap, bugs, and backlog grooming
• Collaborate with marketing to optimize user experience, onboarding and reduce churn
• Oversee security + compliance strategies
• Help field support desk inquiries

Roles and Responsibilities

• Design and code features in the back-end as per the specifications provided by the Product and Design teams.
• Ship features in fast moving agile sprints.
• Work closely with Product Design and Product Management teams to brainstorm and chalk out details of features.
• Ability to build a feature from scratch & drive it to completion.
• Strong skills in architecting database models.
• Ability to document your code as this will be an open-core project.
• Ability to write unit, integration, and end to end tests.
• Conduct peer code review.

Must have:

• Strong understanding of Javascript and NodeJS.
• Good understanding of asynchronous programming, callback, and closures.
• Experience developing applications that use queues like SQS, RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.
• Experience with AWS services like S3, EC2, etc.
• Experience with Docker.
• Should be strong in Postgres database.
• Test driven development and use of frameworks like Mocha, Cypress.
• Strong proficiency in English and writing skills.

Good to have

• Basic knowledge of CI, CD
• Intermediate knowledge in any cloud services (AWS, GCP)
• Have created GraphQL APIs or worked with the Apollo framework.
• Have built previous functionality for CRM, marketing, or customer support tools.
• Have worked in open source project previously.
