ABOUT THIS MANDATE

Recruiting Bond has been exclusively retained by one of India's most well-established digital platform organisations — a company operating at the intersection of Technology, Information, and Media — to identify and place a world-class Backend Tech Lead who can drive a transformational engineering agenda at scale.

This is not an ordinary role. The organisation is executing a high-stakes, large-scale modernisation of its backend infrastructure — migrating from legacy monolithic systems to resilient, cloud-native, AI-augmented distributed architectures that serve millions of concurrent users. The person in this seat will be a core pillar of that transformation.

We are looking exclusively for the top 1% — engineers who think in systems, own outcomes, and lead by example.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Architecture & Platform Modernisation

• Lead the full migration of legacy monolithic systems to a scalable, cloud-native microservices architecture
• Design and own distributed, fault-tolerant backend systems with sub-millisecond SLO targets
• Architect API-first and event-driven platforms using async messaging patterns (Kafka, Pub/Sub, SQS)
• Resolve systemic performance bottlenecks, concurrency conflicts, and scalability ceilings
• Establish backend design standards, coding guidelines, and architectural review processes

2. Distributed Systems Engineering (Production-Grade)

• Design and implement Webhook reliability frameworks with intelligent retry and exponential backoff strategies
• Build idempotent, versioned APIs with enterprise-grade rate limiting and throttling controls
• Implement circuit breakers, bulkheads, and resilience patterns using Resilience4j / Hystrix or equivalents
• Engineer Dead-Letter Queue (DLQ) strategies and event reprocessing pipelines with guaranteed delivery semantics
• Apply Saga orchestration and choreography patterns for distributed transaction integrity
• Execute zero-downtime deployments and canary release strategies with rollback capability
• Design and enforce multi-region disaster recovery and business continuity protocols

3. AI-Driven Engineering Practices

• Champion LLM and GenAI adoption as first-class tooling across the software development lifecycle
• Apply prompt engineering techniques for automated code generation, review, and documentation workflows
• Utilise AI-assisted debugging, root cause analysis, and predictive performance optimisation
• Build automation-first pipelines that reduce toil and accelerate delivery velocity
• Evaluate and integrate emerging AI developer tools into the engineering ecosystem

4. Engineering Leadership & Culture

• Own backend platforms end-to-end with full accountability across development, stability, and performance
• Actively mentor, coach, and elevate engineers at all levels (L3–L6) through structured 1:1s and code reviews
• Drive and lead technical hiring — from designing assessments to final hire decisions
• Partner with Product, Data, DevOps, and Security stakeholders to align engineering with business objectives
• Represent the engineering org in cross-functional roadmap planning and architecture decision reviews
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, psychological safety, and high-velocity delivery

QUALIFICATIONS & CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education

• B.E. / B.Tech or M.E. / M.Tech from a Tier-I or Tier-II Institution — CS, IS, ECE, AI/ML streams strongly preferred
• Exceptional real-world engineering track record may be considered in lieu of institution pedigree

Experience

• 6 to 9 years of progressive backend engineering experience with demonstrable ownership and impact
• Proven track record of shipping and scaling production SaaS / Product systems at significant user load
• Exposure to and success within start-up, mid-size, and large-scale product organisations — the full spectrum
• Strong computer science fundamentals: algorithms, data structures, distributed systems theory, OS internals
• Demonstrated career stability — minimum 2 years average tenure per organisation

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Planning: Work closely with senior leadership to develop and implement engineering strategies that support business objectives. Understand broader organization goals and constantly prioritise your own work.
• Technical Excellence: Understand the onground problems, explore and design various possible solutions to conclude and implement scalable, extensible and secure software systems. Implement and learn best practices in technical architecture, coding standards, and software testing to ensure product delivery with highest speed AND quality.
• Project and Program Management: Setting up aggressive as well as realistic timelines with all the stakeholders, ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects as per the defined timelines with best quality standards ensuring budget constraints are met. Use agile methodologies to manage the development process and resolve bottlenecks.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate with Product Managers, Design, Business, and Operations teams to define project requirements and deliverables. Ensure the smooth integration of engineering efforts across the organization.
• Risk Management: Anticipate and mitigate technical risks and roadblocks. Proactively identify areas of technical debt and drive initiatives to reduce it.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 1+ years of experience in software engineering
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns.
• Hands on with multiple programming languages and modern development frameworks.
• Understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
• Experience with Redis, ElasticSearch.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire teams and stakeholders at all levels.

Software Developer

Roles and Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge set to fetch data from multiple online sources, cleanse it and build APIs on top of it
• Develop a deep understanding of our vast data sources on the web and know exactly how, when, and which data to scrap, parse and store
• We're looking for people who will naturally take ownership of data products and who can bring a project all the way from a fast prototype to production.

Desired Candidate Profile

• At Least 1-2 years of experience
• Strong coding experience in Python (knowledge of Javascripts is a plus)
• Strong knowledge of scraping frameworks in Python (Request, Beautiful Soup)
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
• Knowledge in Version Control tools like GIT.
• Good understanding and hands-on with scheduling and managing tasks with cron.

Nice to have:

• Experience of having worked with elastic search
• Experience with multi-processing, multi-threading, and AWS/Azure is a plus
• Experience with web crawling is a plus
• Deploy server/related components to staging, live environments.
• Experience with cloud environments like AWS,etc as well as cloud solutions like Docker,Lambda, etc
• Experience in DevOps and related practices to improve development lifecycle, continuous delivery with high quality is an advantage.
• Compile and analyze data, processes, and codes to troubleshoot problems and identify areas for improvement

Experience:

The candidate should have about 5+ years of experience with design and development in Java/Scala. Experience in algorithm, data-structure, database and architectures of distributed System is mandatory.

Required Skills:

1. In-depth knowledge of Hadoop, Spark architecture and its components such as HDFS, YARN and executor, cores and memory param
2. Knowledge of Scala and Java both
3. Extensive experience in developing spark job. Should possess good Oops knowledge and be aware of enterprise application design patterns.
4. Good knowledge of Unix/Linux.
5. Experience working on large-scale software projects
6. Understanding the big picture and the various uses cases involved while crafting the solution and documenting them in Unified Modeling language.
7. Own and maintain the architecture document.
8. Keep an eye out for technological trends, open-source projects that can be used.
