Job Description

This is a remote position.

Experience Level

This role is ideal for engineers with 5+ years of full-stack software development experience, with a strong developer mindset and hands-on experience building and maintaining production systems.

An experienced individual contributor who thrives in ownership-driven environments, can operate effectively with minimal oversight, and is comfortable working in the absence of a traditional Product Manager while demonstrating a strong product mindset.

What You’ll Do as a Software Craftsperson

• Design and build high-quality, maintainable systems using disciplined engineering practices such as TDD, Test Pyramid, and a strong focus on overall software quality
• Operate in an AI-powered development environment, leveraging AI as a collaborator to explore solutions, accelerate development, and improve outcomes while maintaining strong engineering judgment
• Take end-to-end ownership of tasks, from understanding requirements to execution and delivery, with minimal supervision
• Work extensively on modern JavaScript/TypeScript-based systems as a core part of the development stack
• Develop and maintain backend systems using Ruby on Rails, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability
• Build and manage DevOps workflows, including creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as CircleCI and GitHub Actions
• Set up and monitor systems using tools like Datadog dashboards to ensure system reliability and observability
• Make thoughtful technical decisions that balance simplicity, scalability, and maintainability
• Work in a highly autonomous environment, defining problems, interacting with customers when needed, and driving solutions independently
• Contribute to improving engineering practices, developer experience, and system quality across the team
• Contribute to mobile development efforts using React Native or Flutter (where applicable)

Requirements

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of hands-on full-stack software development experience with a strong developer mindset
• Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript and/or TypeScript
• Strong experience or familiarity with Ruby on Rails (Intermediate level or above preferred)
• Solid understanding of Software Craftsmanship principles, including TDD, Test Pyramid, and quality-first development
• Experience or familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, CircleCI) at an intermediate level
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog
• Exposure to or interest in AI Engineering (beginner level acceptable) and the ability to work effectively in AI-assisted environments
• Experience with mobile development- Flutter
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently define and execute tasks
• Comfort working in a high-ownership, low-structure environment without a dedicated Product Manager

About Us:

Docsumo is Document AI software that helps enterprises capture data and analyze customer documents. We convert documents such as invoices, ID cards, and bank statements into actionable data. We work with clients such as PayU, Arbor and Hitachi and are backed by Sequoia, Barclays, Techstars, and Better Capital.

Responsibilities:

• You will be responsible for overseeing the development of Docsumo React webapp. You will be working closely with the founders and lead the frontend development.
• Serve as a thought leader and mentor on technical, architectural, design and related issues.
• You will responsible to provide oversight, accountability, and leadership for technical decisions
• You will be designing and building modules in React within the Docsumo webapp. The webapp is the main way for customers to consume Docsumo APIs.
• Own and Implement the features using the technology stack that we have in place while bringing in flavours of latest but proven trends and methods
• Contribute to Product and Design ideas and Implement them as your own product. We value everyone’s inputs.
• Work with our hiring team to hire amazing engineers who will expand the Docsumo culture and product.

Skills:

• At least 6 years years experience building React webapps
• Demonstrated ability to build webapps from scratch using React. Demonstrated ability of managing frontend engineers
• Proven skills in developing a production level end to end UI application on their own
• Excellent command over HTML5, CSS, Javascript & React, Redux
• Familiarity with Version Control tools such as Git
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of SQL / NoSQL databases with hands-on experience in at least one database system
• Must be self-motivated, flexible, collaborative, with an eagerness to learn
• Comfortable working in an Agile work environment with an incredibly fast pace and a large degree of independence.

Skills Required:

• Deep understanding of React.js and its fundamentals, ideally including modern features like hooks
• Excellent understanding of TypeScript/Javascript including the OOP concept and how shadow DOM and DOM work
• Experience with widely used React.js state managers like Flux/Redux
• Knowledge of RESTful APIs
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools like Webpack, Babel, NPM etc
• Knowledge of the overall browser rendering behaviour and measuring and optimising performance
• Strong hands-on experience with source code management systems like Git

We are looking for individuals with a love for frontend, and building products with a great user experience. The ideal candidate is someone who has a collaborative process and is comfortable with ambiguity. You will be the earliest members of the product engineering team, and will have an opportunity to define the culture. If you enjoy the zero-to-one process, this is for you.

What you’ll do

• Be part of a team building a web and mobile web app from grounds up
• Drive frontend development for our product.
• Work fast, carefully evaluate the technical tradeoffs of every decision
• Collaborate with design and product on user experience and interface
• Build responsive & re-usable UI components using ReactJS
• Maintain code and write unit tests to ensure the product is of the highest quality

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong proficiency in developing with Javascript/ReactJS/AngualrJS
• Strong command of HTML5 and CSS
• Comfortable collaborating with designers and translating designs into high-quality code
• Familiarity with REST APIs
• Familiarity with Git for version control
• Strong communication skills - verbal and written

Minimum Qualifications

A degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related fields or relevant experience to demonstrate your abilities and aptitude

2+ years of experience in developing consumer or SaaS web apps or websites

Good to Have

Experience in building real-time frontend and backend data sync applications

Demonstrated an interest for UX and UI

Experience with: AWS, Shopify

About the role:

We are seeking a Frontend developer who has a knack for coming up with creative solutions to unique problems. You should have good time management skills and be able to work both autonomously and collaboratively with a cross-discipline team of product managers, strategists, UX designers, art directors, and developers. Most importantly, you have an eye for detail and the ability to make beautiful designs come to life through code.

• Developing new user-facing features using React Native
• Building reusable components and libraries for future use
• Translating designs and wireframes into high quality code
• Optimizing components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers

Must Have:

• Strong proficiency in JavaScript , the JavaScript object model and ES6
• Thorough understanding of React.js and its core principles
• Experience with state management libraries like Redux, Mobx etc.
• Familiarity with Android / iOS platforms and ability to link native libraries with React Native
• Familiarity with newer specifications of EcmaScript 6
• Experience with data structure libraries (e.g., Immutable.js, immer)
• Knowledge of isomorphic React is a plus
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs
• Knowledge of modern authorization mechanisms, such as JSON Web Token
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools
• Experience with common front-end development tools such as Babel, Webpack, NPM, etc.
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
• A knack for benchmarking and optimization
• Familiarity with code versioning tools (such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial
