About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Backend Engineer to architect, scale, and lead the development of robust backend systems. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll drive technical decisions, mentor engineers, collaborate closely with clients and product teams, and help modernize platforms using scalable architectures and emerging technologies, including AI/ML where relevant.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & Development

• Own and evolve backend architecture across PHP and Node.js services
• Design and review scalable, maintainable systems (microservices or modular monoliths)
• Manage and optimize integrations across MySQL and MongoDB (data modeling, indexing, performance tuning)

Technical Leadership

• Lead system design discussions, architecture reviews, and code quality initiatives
• Establish backend development standards, best practices, and documentation
• Mentor mid and senior engineers on design patterns, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines
• Drive decisions around refactoring legacy systems and platform modernization

Client & Stakeholder Communication

• Act as the technical SPOC for backend architecture and integrations
• Translate business and product requirements into technical solutions
• Explain trade-offs, constraints, and backend workflows to non-technical stakeholders
• Present PoCs and technical approaches confidently to clients

AI & ML Integration (Strategic / Optional)

• Identify backend use cases for AI such as personalization, recommendations, fraud detection, or data enrichment
• Design backend APIs, services, or cron jobs that interact with AI/ML models
• Collaborate with data teams and stay updated on AI tools/APIs (e.g., OpenAI, LangChain)

Scalability, Security & Performance

• Ensure API security, role-based access control, and rate limiting
• Optimize system performance using caching, queues, and query optimization
• Plan and support horizontal/vertical scaling on cloud infrastructure

Overview:

The Operational Resilience drive gives an opportunity to improve upon current infrastructure safeguards. Role / Principal Accountabilities: -

· Build the plan based on the in-house Observability stack.

· Deliver a plan to meet Operational Resilience monitoring requirements based on IBS/ CIF business functions: Settlement/Collateral etc,

· Produce a business dashboard to give visibility of business-critical services and show real-time service status.

· Background in Observability Engineering covering Metrics, Logs and Traces and the interaction between telemetry.

· Strong Experience with Observability tools such as Open Telemetry, Grafana UI, Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Grafana Agent, Prometheus.

· Appreciation of SLI/SLOs for measuring and reporting on service levels.

· Awareness of notification frameworks for escalation automation.

· Experience of DevOps tools i.e. Jenkins, Ansible Tower, GIT and build & deploy pipelines.

· Exposure to Kubernetes, containers & micro-service concepts (not essential, but beneficial)

SRE Engineer

Role Overview 

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the availability and performance of our customer-facing platform. You will work closely with DevOps, DBA, and Development teams to provision and maintain infrastructure, deploy and monitor our applications, and automate workflows. Your contributions will have a direct impact on customer satisfaction and overall experience.

Responsibilities and Deliverables

• Manage, monitor, and maintain highly available systems (Windows and Linux)

• Analyze metrics and trends to ensure rapid scalability.

• Address routine service requests while identifying ways to automate and simplify.

• Create infrastructure as code using Terraform, ARM Templates, Cloud Formation.

• Experience with observability tools such as New Relic, Application Insights, AppDynamics, or DataDog.

• Experience maintaining and administering Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in automation using scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
