Senior Backend Engineer

We are a VC-backed fintech startup developing an innovative online trading platform. As we scale, we're seeking a skilled Backend Engineer with expertise in Python to join our growing team and help build a robust, scalable infrastructure for our cutting-edge trading application.

We're based out of the UK and have our engineering team in India.

**Job Description**

We are looking for a backend developer who specialises in Python. Your role will focus on developing and maintaining the server-side logic, optimising performance, and ensuring seamless integration with the frontend. You’ll work closely with the engineering and product teams to deliver a high-quality, secure, and scalable platform.

**Responsibilities**

1. Develop and maintain server-side logic using Python

2. Design and implement APIs for seamless integration with frontend components

3. Optimise backend performance and scalability for high traffic and large data loads

4. Build and maintain databases, ensuring security, data integrity, and optimal performance

5. Collaborate with frontend engineers to ensure smooth integration between backend and frontend systems

6. Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise backend infrastructure

7. Implement data protection, security protocols, and authentication mechanisms (e.g., JWT)

8. Maintain and enhance real-time communication systems using WebSockets or similar protocols

**Required Skills**

1. Strong proficiency in Python and related technologies, knowledge of databases and SQL, and experience with web frameworks like Django or FastAPI

2. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to solve problems

3. Good understanding of OOPs, task broking services, Queues, Redis

4. Familiarity with RESTful API design and integration

5. Strong understanding of database management (e.g., PostgreSQL, Redis) and caching strategies

6. Familiarity with modern authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g., JWT, OAuth)

7. Proficiency in working with cloud hosting services (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.)

8. Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)

9. Knowledge of real-time communication protocols (e.g., WebSockets, TCP, SSE)

10. Strong understanding of security best practices for server-side applications

11. Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines

12. Minimum of 2-3.5 years of experience building scalable backend systems

Responsibilities : 

- Developer responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Experience as a Sun Certified Java Developer with proven hands-on Software Development experience. We use Java 8

- 4-10 years java development experience with JSE/JEE, Java-based Micro-services framework, and implementation, Spring framework, Hibernate framework, SQL, etc

- Hands-on experience on Spring boot & SPARK Microservices and OSGi specifications

- Strong knowledge of micro-service logging, monitoring, debugging, and testing

- Implementations experience of micro-service integration, packaging, building automation, and deployment

- At least two years experience in SOA & Microservices based process applications using BPM (Activiti/JBPM/Camunda)

- Object-Oriented Analysis and design using common design patterns.

- Insight of Java and JEE internals (Classloading, Memory Management, Transaction management, etc)

- Excellent knowledge of Relational Databases, SQL, and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate)

- Experience in developing web applications using at least one popular web framework (JSF, Wicket, GWT, Spring MVC, Spring Boot)

Qualifications: BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related subject and a minimum of 8 years of professional work experience in a mid-d or large corporate Information Technology environment. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to keep multiple projects and client engagements active at once. Comfort with ambiguity and ability to navigate uncertainty.

We are looking for Django Developers who will  work on a wide range of industries namely automobile, banking, education, fashion, etc.

Skills Required: 

• Professional and precise communication skills.
• Creating self-contained, reusable, testable modules and components..
• Extensive knowledge of CSS and JS methods for providing performance visual effects and keeping the frame rate above 30fps at all times.
• Thorough understanding of the responsibilities of the platform,  database, API, caching layer, proxies, and other web services used in the system.
• Validating user actions on the client side and providing responsive  feedback.
• Writing non-blocking code, and resorting to advanced techniques such as multithreading, when needed.
• Experience with all levels of operation available to the front-end, such as from creating XHRs in vanilla JS to using a custom wrapper around resources.
• Experience with building the infrastructure for serving the front-end app and assets.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in Backend Development
• Preferred skills - Python, MySql, PostgreSQL
• Proficiency with Python, Django framework, JavaScript, CSS and HTML5.
• Knowledge of AWS Cloud Services ( EC2, AWS Lambda,Elastic Beanstalk, API Gateway, S3 etc )
• Familiar with XAMPP, LAMP etc.

• Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithm design,
• Proficiency with Java
• 1+ years of experience contributing to architecture and design in a product setup

Key Responsibilities

• Understand customer needs by collaborating with Product Managers and Business stakeholders
• Design, development, delivery, and support of large-scale, distributed software applications and tools
• Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality and maintainability for all deliverables
• Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff.
• Take initiatives and come up with new ideas to invent solutions for customers

• Have architected /designed at least 2-3 systems/products of enterprise scale from scratch.
• Have banking and Financial service background and preferably worked in Mobile/Digital platform design and development. Payments /OLTP preferred.
• Should have experience of 20+ years with J2ee, REST, Microservice, API, Messaging, Encryption, security, NLP, ML background.
• Have 7+yrs of experience in Architecture field, designing and end to end not from consulting Architecture.
• Responsible for design, architecture, and delivery of a feature or component/product with the highest quality with high-level directions from architects
• Driving innovations in the platform constantly & remaining ahead of the curve
• Development and testing of features/functions delivered via applications and services.
• Prototype ideas quickly using cutting edge technologies.
• Collaborating with peers and Architects both within their team and across the organization to deliver end-to-end products & features
• Working with product managers using agile methodologies to deliver high quality solutions on time
• Provide functional, design, and code reviews in related areas of expertise with-in team and cross-team.
• Working with operations teams to ensure your applications and services are highly available and reliable
• Mentoring junior engineers in the team both in the technical as well as on the product side
• Define and devise processes, tools and methodologies to achieve excellence in software development, testing and deployment, and in the management of the Centre.
• Good experience in working with any of the programming languages like PHP, Python, Django, Golang, Java, C++
• Experience developing applications that use high volume of data along with experience building applications on top of RESTful APIs.
• Solid knowledge of JAVA, J2EE, data stream, processing, big data etc.
• Comfortable with writing unit tests using JUnit
• Worked with Git and are comfortable with Merge/Rebase concepts.
• Worked with tools such as Eclipse, WebStorm, Ant, Maven, Jenkins, Sonar, JSLint, Grunt and App Servers such as Tomcat, Jboss.
• Solid knowledge of algorithms, design patterns, and componentization approaches.
• Experience and knowledge of open source software, frameworks and broader cutting-edge technologies.
• Experience in software design patterns, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to determine impact of architectural solutions and recommendations.
• Must have experience in justification of technology solutions to business leaders.
• Experience in refactoring existing codebase and in understanding existing implementations to decide to refactor or rewrite.
• Know how to identify Performance bottlenecks and use good coding patterns to avoid them in the first place.
• Have strong attention to detail.
• Ability to operate effectively both independently as well and within a team using Agile methodology.
• Proven problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of payment domain will be an added advantage

Qualifications

• BE/BTech/ME/MTech in EE/CS or an equivalent qualification.
• 20+yrs of Experience.
• Minimum 12+years of hands on Java programming experience.
