The Challenge

The current AI stack is fragmented, leading to issues with multimodal data, silent webhook failures, unpredictable token usage, and nascent agent-to-agent collaboration. My AI Client is building a unified, robust backend to resolve these issues for the developer community.

Your Mission

As a foundational member of the backend team, you will architect core systems, focusing on:

• Agent Nervous System: Designing agent-to-agent messaging, lifecycle management, and high-concurrency, low-latency communication.
• Multimodal Chaos Taming: Engineering systems to process and understand real-time images, audio, video, and text.
• Bulletproof Systems: Developing secure, observable webhook systems with robust billing, metering, and real-time payment pipelines.

What You'll Bring

Core Experience:

● Typically 3 to 5 years of experience in backend engineering roles.

● Expertise in Python, especially with async frameworks like FastAPI.

● Strong command of Docker and cloud deployment (AWS, Cloud Run, or similar).

● Proven experience designing and building microservice or agent-based architectures.

Specialized Experience (Ideal):

• Real-Time Systems: Experience with real-time media transmission like WebRTC, WebSockets and ways to process them.
• Scalable Systems: Experience in building scalable, fault-tolerant systems with a strong understanding of observability, monitoring, and alerting best practices.
• Reliable Webhooks: Knowledge of scalable webhook infrastructure with retry logic, backoffs, and security.
• Data Processing: Experience with multimodal data (e.g., OCR, audio transcription, video chunking with FFmpeg/OpenCV).
• Payments & Metering: Familiarity with usage-based billing systems or token-based ledgers.

AWS Expertise: Minimum 2 years of experience working with AWS services like RDS, S3, EC2, and Lambda.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. Backend Development: Develop scalable and high-performance APIs and backend systems using Node.js. Write clean, modular, and reusable code following best practices. Debug, test, and optimize backend services for performance and scalability.

2. Database Management: Design and maintain relational databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL, or AWS RDS. Optimize database queries and ensure data integrity. Implement data backup and recovery plans.

3. AWS Cloud Services: Deploy, manage, and monitor applications using AWS infrastructure. Work with AWS services including RDS, S3, EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, and CloudWatch. Implement security best practices for AWS environments (IAM policies, encryption, etc.).

4. Integration and Microservices:Integrate third-party APIs and services. Develop and manage microservices architecture for modular application development.

5. Version Control and Collaboration: Use Git for code versioning and maintain repositories. Collaborate with front-end developers and project managers for end-to-end project delivery.

6. Troubleshooting and Debugging: Analyze and resolve technical issues and bugs. Provide maintenance and support for existing backend systems.

8. Agile Development:

Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

Required Skills

Strong proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.

Expertise in working with relational databases like MySQL/PostgreSQL and AWS RDS.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 1+ years of experience in software engineering

Looking to hire a single backend engineer who will become a part of the core team, with the track to become a part of the leadership at our company.

Candidate should have worked in startups, possess strong programming skills in Python, displays a sense of ownership and is highly energetic and eager to learn state-of-the-art tech and ML.

Representative (not exhaustive) responsibilities:

• Assess the current design and infrastructure of the backend server, and continuously implement enhancements to make the systems more robust, reliable and responsive
• Design, implement, test, and deploy APIs with Python on Linux servers
• Enhance back-end functionality and integrate with the front end to deliver a fully functional product
• Implement and set up automated tests to periodically test backend infrastructure for reliability, security and performance
• Design new data pipelines to enable the production deployment of new models
• Mentor junior employees and interns in the company
