Job Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in Java (primary) and working knowledge of Python. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems, while contributing to high-quality software delivery across the full development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and high-performance applications using Java (Spring Boot / Microservices architecture)
• Develop reusable components and APIs with a focus on performance, security, and scalability
• Leverage Python for automation, scripting, data processing, or ML-related use cases (as applicable)
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, DevOps, and Architecture
• Participate in system design discussions and contribute to technical decision-making
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following coding standards and best practices
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
• Troubleshoot and debug complex production issues
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Mentor junior engineers and perform code reviews

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in Core Java, Spring Boot, and Microservices architecture
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, multithreading, concurrency, and JVM performance tuning
• Practical experience with Python (automation, scripting, or backend development)
• Experience with databases: SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and system design
• Experience with message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Exposure to containerization & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with version control systems (Git)

Preferred Skills

• Experience in distributed systems and event-driven architectures

Role & Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer at Locus, you will play a critical role in defining and driving our backend architecture as we scale globally. You’ll own key systems that handle high volumes of data and transactions, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability across distributed environments.

Key Responsibilities-

• Own one or more core applications end-to-end, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
• Lead the design, architecture, and development of complex, distributed systems, frameworks, and libraries aligned with Locus’s technical strategy.
• Drive engineering operational excellence by defining robust roadmaps for system reliability, observability, and performance improvements.
• Analyze and optimize existing systems for latency, throughput, and efficiency, ensuring they perform at scale.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Data, and Infrastructure teams to translate business requirements into technical deliverables.
• Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning.

• Strong staff engineer profile
• Mandatory (Experience 1): Must have 9+ years in backend engineering with Java, Spring/Spring Boot, and microservices building large and schalable systems
• Mandatory (Experience 2): Must have been SDE-3 / Tech Lead / Lead SE for at least 2.5 years
• Mandatory (Tech skills 1): Strong in DSA, system design, design patterns, and problem-solving
• Mandatory (Tech skills 2): Proven experience building scalable, reliable, high-performance distributed systems
• Mandatory (Tech skills 3): Hands-on with SQL/NoSQL databases, REST/gRPC APIs, concurrency & async processing
• Mandatory (Tech skills 4): Experience in AWS/GCP, CI/CD pipelines, and observability/monitoring
• Mandatory (Communication): Excellent ability to explain complex technical concepts to varied stakeholders
• Mandatory (Company): Product companies (B2B SAAS preferred)
• Mandatory (Stability): Must have stayed for at least 2 years with each of the previous companies
• Mandatory (Education): B.Tech in computer science from Tier 1, Tier 2 colleges

• Experience in building solutions based on Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, K Nearest neighbor, SVM, Random Forest, Decision Trees.
• Strong experience with at least one of programming languages: Python, Java, Vertx, Golang
• Strong experience in building Server side reusable components based on Microservices or Distributed Architecture.
• Solid coding skills with ability to lead teams in identifying clearing tech debts for large scale code base.
• Good understanding & experience in improving performance of scalable and real time responsive applications.
• Excellent Problem Solving skills and an aptitude to approach problems from first principles and build solutions for those.
• Must have excellent communication (verbal & written), interpersonal, leadership, and problem solving skills.
• Must be able to work independently and enjoy working at a fast paced start-up environment
