Role Overview :

We are a funded AI startup seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, implement, and maintain a secure, scalable, and efficient infrastructure. In this role, you will focus on automating operations, optimizing deployment processes, and enabling engineering teams to deliver high-quality products seamlessly.

Key Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Scalability & Reliability :

• Architect and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure for high availability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
• Implement container orchestration using Kubernetes or Docker Compose.
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Pulumi or Terraform to manage and configure infrastructure.

Deployment Automation :

• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.
• Implement deployment strategies such as canary or blue-green deployments, and create rollback mechanisms to ensure seamless updates.

Monitoring & Observability :

• Leverage tools like OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Datadog to monitor system health and performance.
• Establish centralized logging systems and create real-time dashboards for actionable insights.

Security & Compliance :

• Securely manage secrets using tools like HashiCorp Vault or Doppler.
• Conduct static code analysis with tools such as SonarQube or Snyk to ensure compliance with security standards.

Collaboration & Team Enablement :

• Mentor and guide team members on DevOps best practices and workflows.
• Document infrastructure setups, incident runbooks, and troubleshooting workflows to enhance team efficiency.

Required Skills :

• Expertise in managing cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and IaC tools like Terraform or Pulumi.
• Advanced scripting capabilities in Python or Bash.
• Proficiency in CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar.
• Experience with observability tools like Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Datadog.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for debugging production systems and optimizing performance.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Experience in scaling AI or ML-based applications.
• Familiarity with distributed systems and microservices architecture.

DevOps Engineer / SRE

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer (individual contributor) to maintain and build upon our next-generation infrastructure. We aim to ensure that our systems are secure, reliable and high-performing by constantly striving to achieve best-in-class infrastructure and security by:

• Leveraging a variety of tools to ensure all configuration is codified (using tools like Terraform and Flux) and applied in a secure, repeatable way (via CI)
• Routinely identifying new technologies and processes that enable us to streamline our operations and improve overall security
• Holistically monitoring our overall DevOps setup and health to ensure our roadmap constantly delivers high-impact improvements
• Eliminating toil by automating as many operational aspects of our day-to-day work as possible using internally created, third party and/or open-source tools
• Maintain a culture of empowerment and self-service by minimizing friction for developers to understand and use our infrastructure through a combination of innovative tools, excellent documentation and teamwork

Tech stack: Microservices primarily written in JavaScript, Kotlin, Scala, and Python. The majority of our infrastructure sits within EKS on AWS, using Istio. We use Terraform and Helm/Flux when working with AWS and EKS (k8s). Deployments are managed with a combination of Jenkins and Flux. We rely heavily on Kafka, Cassandra, Mongo and Postgres and are increasingly leveraging AWS-managed services (e.g. RDS, lambda).

Roles and Responsibilities 

• Primary stakeholder collaborating with Dir Engineering on software/infrastructure architecture, monitoring/alerting framework and all other architectural level technical issues
• Design and manage implementation of Silvermine’s high performance, scalable, extensible and resilient microservices application stack based of existing, partially migrated monolithic application and for new product development.  Includes:
  • Utilizing either ECS Fargate (no EC2 clusters) or EKS as the orchestration framework – to be tested up to a minimum of 100k concurrent users
  • Exploring, designing and implementing use of on demand compute (Lambda) where appropriate
  • Scalable and redundant data architecture supporting microservices design principles
  • A scalable reverse proxy layer to isolate microservices from managing network connections
  • Utilizing CDN capabilities to offload origin load via an intelligent caching strategy
  • Leveraging best in breed AWS service offerings to enable team to focus on application stack instead of application scaffolding while minimizing operational complexity and cost
  • Monitoring and optimizing of stack for
• Security and monitoring
  • Leverage AWS and 3rd party services to monitor the application stack and data; secure them from DDOS attacks and security breaches; and alert the team in the vent of an incident
  • Using APM and logging tools:
    • Monitor application stack and infrastructure component performance
    • Proactively detect, triage and mitigate stack performance issues
    • Alert upon exception events
    • Provide triaging tools for debugging and Root Cause Analysis.
• Enhance the CI/CD pipeline to support automated testing, a resilient deployment model (e.g., blue-green, canary) and 100% rollback support (including the data layer)
• Development a comprehensive, supportable, repeatable IAC implementation using CloudFormation or Terraform
• Take a leadership role and exhibit expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, best practices and optimization of existing architecture.
• Partner with teams and leaders to provide strategic consultation for business process design/optimization, creating strategic technology road maps, performing rapid prototyping and implementing technical solutions to accelerate the fulfillment of the business strategic vision.
• Staying up to date on emerging technologies (AI, Automation, Cloud etc.) and trends with a clear focus on productivity, ease of use and fit-for-purpose, by researching, testing, and evaluating.
• Providing POCs and product implementation guidelines.
• Applying imagination and innovation by creating, inventing, and implementing new or better approaches, alternatives and breakthrough ideas that are valued by customers within the function.
• Assessing current state of solutions, defining future state needs, identifying gaps and recommending new technology solutions and strategic business execution improvements.
• Overseeing and facilitating the evaluation and selection technology, product standards and the design of standard configurations/implementation patterns.
• Partnering with other architects and solution owners to create standards and set strategies for the enterprise.
• Communicating directly with business colleagues on applying digital workplace technologies to solve identified business challenges.

Skills Required:

• Good mentorship skills to coach and guide the team on AWS DevOps.
• Jenkins, Python, Pipeline as Code, Cloud Formation Templates and Terraform.
• Experience with Dockers, Containers, Lambda and Fargate is a must
• Experience with CI/CD and Release management
• Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting
• Demonstrable expertise in Java
• Familiarity with REST APIs

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Devops.
• Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
• AWS Certifications is added advantage

Must Have Skills

• AWS Solutions Architect and/or DevOps certification, Professional preferred
• BS level technical degree or equivalent experience; Computer Science or Engineering background preferred
• Hands-on technical expertise on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to include but not limited to EC2, VPC, IAM, Security groups, ELB/NLB/ALB, Internet gateway, S3, EBS and EFS.
• Experience in migration-deployment of applications to Cloud, re-engineering of application for cloud, setting up OS and app environments in virtualized cloud
• DevOps automation, CI/CD, infrastructure/services provisioning, application deployment and configuration
• DevOps toolsets to include Ansible, Jenkins and XLdeploy, XLrelease
• Deploy and configuration of Java/Wildfly, Springboot, JavaScript/Node.js and Ruby applications and middleware
• Scripting in Shell (bash) and Extensive Python
• Agile software development
• Excellent written, verbal communication skills, presentation, and collaboration skills - Team leadership skills
• Linux (RHEL) administration/engineering

Experience:

• Deploying, configuring, and supporting large scale monolithic and microservices based SaaS applications
• Working as both an infrastructure and application migration specialist
• Identifying and documenting application requirements for network, F5, IAM, and security groups
• Implementing DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code, continuous integration, and automated deployment 
• Work with Technology leadership to understand business goals and requirements
• Experience with continuous integration tools
