Android Development Intern

Qualifications:

• 10+ years native mobile development (iOS Swift + Android Kotlin)

• Proven experience building mission-critical, offline-first applications

• Deep understanding of mobile architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture)

• Expert-level API integration and data synchronization strategies

• Experience with emergency services, healthcare, or field operations software (preferred)

• Strong debugging, performance optimization, and memory management skills

• Demonstrated leadership in establishing mobile development best practices

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:

• iOS: Swift 5.x, SwiftUI/UIKit, CoreData, CoreLocation, Background Tasks

• Android: Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Room, WorkManager, Location Services

• Tools: Xcode, Android Studio, Git, Figma, Firebase, TestFlight/Play Console

• CI/CD: Fastlane, GitHub Actions, or similar automation tools

• APIs: RESTful services, JSON parsing, authentication/authorization

• Testing: XCTest, Espresso, automated UI testing frameworks

Responsibilities:

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Architect mobile applications for First Due's emergency response platform serving Fire and

EMS agencies nationwide

• Lead mobile development initiatives for the Hyderabad development center

• Design offline-first architectures ensuring reliability in low-connectivity emergency

scenarios

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across US and India time zones

• Establish mobile CI/CD pipelines, coding standards, and quality assurance processes

• Mentor developers on mobile best practices and First Due's technology stack

• Drive sprint planning, velocity tracking, and technical roadmap for mobile development

• Ensure HIPAA compliance and data security for patient care reporting features

Job Description:

• Work closely with various people and teams throughout the entire app development cycle (concept, design, build, deploy & test) in an agile environment.
• Design and build applications for the Android platform.
• Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
• Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs.
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization.
• Knowledge of other web technologies and UI/UX standards.
• Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications.
• Proficient understanding of code versioning tools like Git.
• Maintain and update the existing mobile app.

Reporting Structure

• This position reports to the Team Leader - Technology.

Job Specifications

• An Graduate in IT or Post graduate or Engineer in IT; with 4+ years’ of relevant experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Flutter is a must.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem solving, analytical, decision making and technical ability.

This person MUST have:

• B.E Computer Science or equivalent.
• Demonstrable portfolio of released applications on the Android market with experience in Android development. 
• In-depth knowledge of at least one programming language like Kotlin 
• Strong knowledge of how to work with RESTful APIs 
• Strong Familiarity with OOP design principles 
• Integrate with our backend web services to deliver better and faster user experience 
• Strong knowledge of version control (i.e. git, svn, etc.) 
• Ability to performance tune and scale applications 
• Agile development experience 
• Experience working at a software product company is a major plus  
• Passion to learn and develop new skills continuously 
• Strong sense of ownership in every application they build 
• Working with highly collaborative and dynamic team environments 

Experience:

• Min 3 year experience
• Startup experience is a must.
   

Location:

• Remotely, anywhere in India

Timings:

• 40 hours a week but with 4 hours a day overlapping with client timezone.  Typically clients are in California PST Timezone.

Experience implementing any of the following is a bonus: branch.io , Google Analytics, Flurry, Urban Airship

Understanding of utilizing phone camera and in-app image manipulation is a bonus

Self motivated (we don't micromanage)

Product and design oriented thinking
