As Senior/Lead Software Engineer, you will play a significant role in turning our product vision into reality, while working within the Product Engineering team to add value across our product. You’ll draw on your experience to help us establish contemporary, web application software that is highly scalable, durable, and based on current best practices.

Our product is written mainly in Java (Spring, Hibernate) and ReactJS with our Design System, Electric. Our architecture is a combination of microservices, decoupled AWS service architectures, and a well-maintained monolith. The product is deployed on AWS across multiple regions. We use tools like Docker and Buildkite and deploy our systems and monitor our technology using CloudWatch, New Relic and SquadCast. We’re looking for someone to help us evolve how our systems operate together while we grow our team and capability.

What will I be doing?

• Creating change in a complex system. Working within our product stream, making well-considered decisions around patterns, principals, frameworks, languages and tools, thinking through and mitigating for potential cascading impacts of those changes.
• Designing and developing well-architected systems. Understand and contribute to our product source code and cloud infrastructure.
• Designing holistically, delivering iteratively. Work with the team to break down system-wide architecture recommendations into small, intelligently planned increments for delivery. 
• Advocate for technology needs. Translate technology risk into opportunity during product and technology roadmap discussions.
• Coach and mentor. Assist with career development of less experienced staff on our teams.
• Putting Customers First. A regular rotation on support for the systems we develop.

 What we’re looking for

• Demonstrated experience as a software engineer, with 4-8 years experience in technology roles
• Experience working on complex systems and cloud architectures
• Significant experience with across the full stack:
• The Java programming language and frameworks such as Spring & SpringBoot 
• Front-end Javascript frameworks such as ReactJS
• Good knowledge of AWS services, design patterns and practices - ideally certified but if not, we’ll help you get there
• Some knowledge of optimising databases and SQL queries for high-performance 
• Experience and keen understanding of the value of working in agile teams
• A “quality-first” mindset, with experience working in continuous integration environments and supporting the systems you contribute to
• Highly effective at communicating, and comfortable whiteboarding design ideas with teams of engineers, product managers, and business analysts
• Desire to challenge the status quo and maturity to know when to compromise
• Respect for other team members and a highly collaborative approach to working and learning together

In this role, you will:

1. Collaborate with Product & Design Teams Work closely with the Product team to ensure that we are building a scalable, bug-free platform. You will actively participate in product and design discussions, offering valuable insights from a backend perspective to align technology with business goals.

2. Drive Adoption of New Technologies

You will lead brainstorming sessions and define a clear direction for the backend team to incorporate the latest technologies into day-to-day development,continuously optimizing for performance, scalability, and efficiency.

3. RESTful API Design & Development:You will ensure that the APIs you design and develop are well-structured, following best practices, and are suitable for consumption by frontend teams across multiple platforms. A key part of your role is making sure these APIs are scalable and maintainable.

4. Third-Party Integration Support:As we sometimes partner with third-party providers to expedite our market entry,you’ll work closely with these partners to integrate their solutions into our system.This involves participating in calls, finding the best integration methods, and providing ongoing support.

5. AI and Prompt Engineering:With AI becoming more integral to backend development, you’ll leverage AI to speed up development processes and maintain best practices. Familiarity with prompt engineering and AI-driven problem-solving is a significant plus in our team.

Must-Have Requirements:

• Strong expertise in Python, microservices, backend development and scalable architectures.
• Proficiency in designing and building REST APIs.
• Experience with unit testing in any testing framework and maintaining 100% code coverage.
• Experience in working with NoSQL DB.
• Strong understanding of any Cloud platforms such as - GCP/AWS/Azure.
• Profound knowledge in Serverless design pattern .
• Familiarity with Django or Webapp2 or Flask or similar web app frameworks.
• Experience in writing unit test using any testing framework.
• Experience collaborating with product and design teams.
• Familiarity with integrating third-party solutions.

Good-to-Have Requirements:

• Educational background includes a degree (B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech) in ComputerScience, Engineering, or a related field.  
• 4+ years’ experience as a backend/cloud developer.
• Good understanding of google cloud platform.
• Knowledge of AI and how to leverage it for day-to-day tasks in backend development.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering to enhance productivity.
• Prior experience working with global or regional teams.
• Experience with agile methodologies and working within cross-functional teams.

What’s the opportunity?

As Staff Engineer, you will play a leading role in turning our product vision into reality, while working with other senior Product Engineering staff to design and develop our systems. 

You’ll join an enthusiastic and experienced Product Engineering team in our Bangalore office, with plenty of flexibility to work from home as required. When you join our team, you’ll be the development lead for India, which currently consists of one team with expectations to expand. 

This isn’t your average Lead Engineer role; expect to be heavily involved in product discovery as the Engineering voice alongside your peers in Product and Design. You’ll be engaged in forward planning while also coaching and pairing with your team to execute on product requirements. You’ll also take a seat on our Technology Council to establish contemporary systems architectures that are highly scalable, durable, and based on current best practices.

Coach and mentor. Thoughtfully lead the team around you and assist with career development of less experienced staff on our teams.

 What we’re looking for

• Demonstrated experience as a lead or staff engineer, with at least 10 years experience in technology roles
• Experience working on technical leadership teams involved in roadmap planning, hiring and staff capacity planning
• You’re opinionated on what “great code” looks like and you’re passionate about code quality
• Experience working on complex systems and cloud architectures
• Excellent understanding of the Java programming language, frameworks such as Spring & SpringBoot and frontend technologies like React.
• Excellent understanding of data structures and database design
