Software Engineer (Python)

Summary

As a Senior Software Engineer you will be directly responsible for the experience our clients have on the platform by designing, building, and maintaining the server-side of Avoma. This is an exciting opportunity for those who are curious, diligent, and want to learn and develop their professional skills within a fast-growing start-up. As an early member of the team, we will work together to create the building blocks for our development strategy and set up the foundations and processes for future Software Engineers at Avoma.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in building the structure of a B2B SaaS application. We expect you to be a reliable professional, able to balance the needs of the product roadmap and the needs of the customers. Your overarching goal is to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone using Avoma.

What you will be doing in the role (Responsibilities)

• Develop features and improvements to the Avoma product in a secure, well-tested, and performant way
• Collaborate with Product Management and other stakeholders within Engineering (Frontend, UX, etc.) to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment
• Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance
• Solve technical problems of moderate scope and complexity
• Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale environment.
• Conduct Code Review to ensure performance of our backend services
• Build RESTful APIs and features for UI application clients (including Web and Mobile)
• Deploy and integrate with machine learning models developed by the AI team
• Own and work the core data processing pipeline and video processing pipeline
• Third-party integrations - Calendar, CRM systems, Video Conferencing
• Search and analytics infrastructure
• DevOps and security

We use the Django framework to build our backend platform and React.js for our frontend application.

Requirements

What you need to be successful in the role (Qualifications)

• At least 4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with a track record of delivering software with high business impact
• Significant professional experience with Python, Django
• Experience building RESTful APIs
• Using Coding AI agents like Cursor and different prompting techniques.
• System Design knowledge using AWS services and other frameworks of Python / Django ecosystem.
• Experience writing scalable, high-performant, and clean code
• B.S./B.E. in Computer Science or relevant engineering field
• Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient for success in a largely asynchronous work environment

Requirements

• Design and implement a full-stack web application using Python Django framework and ReactJS.
• 1+ years of experience in building and deploying web applications.
• Experience in designing and using RESTful APIs.
• Basic knowledge in front-end technologies such as JavaScript, , ReactJS, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
• Understanding of databases, SQL and non-relational, plus the Django ORM.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript, including DOM manipulation and the JavaScript object model.
• Experience in web mark-up like HTML and CSS.
• Experience with data structure libraries.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs.
• A knack for bench marking and optimization.
• Knowledge of modern authorization mechanisms, such as JSON Web Token.
• Familiarity with modern front-end build pipelines and tools.
• Experience with common front-end development tools such as NPM etc.
• Strong knowledge of Git version control.
• Experience deploying Python applications into production.
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) knowledge is a plus.

Job Title: Backend Developer - Fintech

Responsibilities:

• Architect and Develop: Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and efficient RESTful APIs using Django Rest Framework, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications and actionable plans.
• Debug and Resolve: Identify and fix backend issues and bugs, ensuring a seamless user experience for financial applications.
• Optimize Systems: Continuously enhance backend systems for performance, scalability, and resource efficiency.
• Code Quality: Uphold high standards of code quality, organization, and implement automated testing processes to meet industry standards.
• Stay Updated: Keep abreast of fintech industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory updates to continually improve backend architecture.

Requirements:

• Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in backend development with a strong skill set in Python and Django.
• API Development: Extensive experience in developing secure and compliant RESTful APIs using Django Rest Framework.
• Database Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of MySQL for database design, optimization, and maintenance; experience with MongoDB is a plus.
• DevOps: Proficiency in DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and containerization.
• Cloud Services: Exposure to cloud services (AWS, GCP) with an emphasis on security and regulatory compliance.
• Software Principles: Solid understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices in the fintech domain.
