What You’ll Do

• Build and scale backend services using Java & Spring Boot

• Work on API integrations (REST, SOAP), caching & rate limiting

• Contribute across the full SDLC – design, development, testing & deployment

• Solve problems around performance, scalability & reliability

What We’re Looking For

• Strong knowledge of Data Structures & Algorithms

• Experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST/SOAP

• Hands-on with system & solution design

• Database experience: MongoDB / PostgreSQL / MySQL / Oracle

• Good debugging skills & unit testing

• Familiarity with Git and AI coding assistants (Copilot, Claude, etc.)

1. 5-7 years hands-on working experience in Java / Spring / Spring Cloud / Spring Data JPA / Spring Boot Microservices
2. Data processing capability
3. Hands-on working experience with GCP/AWS/Azure
4. Hands-on working experience with Junit, Git, Jenkins, Maven
5. Excellent communication skill
6. Experience on Google cloud data flow would be an added advantage

Requirements:

• Highly proficient in fundamentals of Python web development frameworks like Flask, Django and Fast API

• Should have deep knowledge in PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server and other SQL based Databases
• Knowledge and proficiency in NoSQL is a bonus

About the role :

This is a senior staff backend engineer role in the engineering team that designs, implements and maintains our state of the art product IllusionBLACK. The team is responsible for designing and implementing secure, highly performant and maintainable product.

Responsibilities:

• Architect, develop and maintain high performance, fault tolerant and scalable cloud hosted service using NodeJS
• End to end responsibility to continuously create and monitor the services you build
• Help design reusable and clean API's for our frontend React app
• Guide team members with handling complex issues
• You will also be responsible for database schema design and development of migration scripts
• Experiment with new technologies and ideas and help shape our stack and processes

Requirement:

• 10+ years professional SW development experience
• All our production applications are built with either Typescript or Python. You must have a strong understanding of NodeJS express apps written in Typescript and ES6
• Must have good experience with Python
• Solid experience with databases is a must. We use and love Postgres here at Smokescreen
• You should be able to design a complex database SQL schema normalized to 3NF on the back of a napkin at 3am in the morning
• Deep understanding and working knowledge of Redis cache
• Experience with Solr or Elasticsearch is a must. We use Solr for our event analytics exclusively
• Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP is a plus. We have a large distributed application running on AWS
• Experience with Docker/Swarm is a plus
• Experience in some stream processing platforms like Kafka/Redis stream is a plus

We are looking for a Backend Developer who has 4-6 years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing backend services using Python and Django.

- Responsibilities-

- Design highly scalable, testable code and follow Test Driven Development methodology 

- Able to write well-organized, modularised code with test cases.

- Contribute to the design and architecture of our backend APIs and deployment of microservices

- Ensure adherence to engineering best practices and maintain the overall quality of our codebase.

- Work with the product team to translate powerful ideas into everyday business value.

- Skills-

- Back-end programming language: Python

- Familiarity with Django or Flask framework

- Familiarity with AWS and Elastic Search

- Experience in SQL and NoSQL databases with an insight into various data modeling use cases

- Experience with system & unit testing

- Familiarity with containerized deployment

- Proficiency with Git

- Sound with data structures and algorithms and have a good understanding of design patterns, software architectures
