Ensure that the database system is efficient and error-free. - Optimize your queries when a website is too slow due to database performance, write queries for heavy traffic databases, and design tables and indexes for the best database architecture and performance.- Lead a team of developers and successfully solve issues and make improvements to databases, while ensuring all work meets the necessary requirements.- Learn new technology. There's a ton of stuff in there that falls outside the classical SQL model, and learning how to use it will improve your craft.- Find a problem to solve and don- t be afraid to fail. Learn by making mistakes.- Be fluent in the current technology and able to learn how to correctly utilize new technology, often on the fly. As a result, you are must be the most versatile member of any team.- Everything changes so fast the fundamentals you learned five or 5 years ago may no longer be applicable. Architect skills. Developers must be architects these days. Understand the big picture of mapping. Try to find the next set of standards.What essential skills you need:- Schema design, data modeling, data upgrades, develop distributed and highly scalable applications with a focus on scalability performance availability reliability security and maintainability of the applications or technologies.- Code review, SQL query tuning, SQL patches, ownership, attention to detail ad-hoc queries & automation in support of internal and external customers data exchange and integration needs.- Research, troubleshoot, and resolve data issues impacting extract delivery, application design enhancements, development, debugging, and optimization with respect to data concerns and new product features.- Cloud-managed database engines such as Amazon RDS. NoSQL solutions such as Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB, make regular recommendations for system improvements.- Extensive experience with backups monitoring performance tuning and troubleshooting tools & techniques.
