As a Founding Engineer, you'll join the engineering team during an exciting growth phase, contributing to a platform that handles complex financial operations for B2B companies. You'll work on building scalable systems that automate billing, usage metering, revenue recognition, and financial reporting—directly impacting how businesses manage their revenue operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Build core platform features: Develop robust APIs, services, and integrations that power billing automation and revenue recognition capabilities.
• Work across the full stack: Contribute to backend services and frontend interfaces to ensure seamless user experiences.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on Backend Engineering experience building scalable, production-grade systems.
• Strong backend development experience using one or more frameworks: FastAPI / Django (Python), Spring (Java), or Express (Node.js).
• Deep understanding of relevant libraries, tools, and best practices within the chosen backend framework.
• Strong experience with databases (SQL & NoSQL), including efficient data modeling and performance optimization.
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs, services, and backend systems with solid system design and clean code practices.

Domain

• Experience with financial systems, billing platforms, or fintech applications is highly preferred.

Company Background

• Experience working in product companies or startups (preferably Series A to Series D).

Education

• Candidates from Tier 1 engineering institutes (IITs, BITS, etc.) are highly preferred.

About the Role

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to build the infrastructure that powers AI agents in enterprise environments. You will work on systems that securely run, manage, monitor, and govern AI agents as they interact with users, business applications, and external tools.

This role combines backend engineering, distributed systems, AI agent infrastructure, security, and platform development.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the core runtime that manages AI agent execution and lifecycle.
• Develop systems for message processing, task orchestration, queue management, and recovery from failures.
• Design secure communication and execution boundaries between AI agents and the host platform.
• Build and enhance sandboxed environments for safe tool and code execution.
• Develop scalable backend services, APIs, and platform components.
• Build admin interfaces and APIs for configuring agents, permissions, approvals, and audits.
• Implement capability, access control, and permission management systems.
• Develop durable memory and state management systems for AI agents.
• Build integrations with communication platforms, business applications, and external systems.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, security, and performance.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to design, develop, test, and ship new capabilities.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, or another modern typed programming language.
• Experience building scalable, distributed, and event-driven systems.
• Strong understanding of databases, transactions, queues, background workers, and system reliability.
• Experience designing and building REST APIs and backend services.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools and assistants in daily development workflows.
• Understanding of AI agent frameworks, agent workflows, tool calling, context management, or agent orchestration concepts.
• Strong knowledge of system design, security principles, authentication, authorization, and access control.
• Experience debugging, optimizing, and maintaining production systems.
• Ability to work independently in large codebases and deliver high-quality solutions.

Good to Have

• Experience with AI agent frameworks or SDKs.
• Experience building developer platforms, admin consoles, or management systems.
• Knowledge of sandboxing, process isolation, containers, or secure execution environments.
• Experience with distributed systems concepts such as ordering, retries, idempotency, and fault recovery.

Job Description:

1. Develop, and maintain Java applications using Core Java, Spring framework, JDBC, and threading concepts.
2. Strong understanding of the Spring framework and its various modules.
3. Experience with JDBC for database connectivity and manipulation
4. Utilize database management systems to store and retrieve data efficiently.
5. Proficiency in Core Java8 and thorough understanding of threading concepts and concurrent programming.
6. Experience in in working with relational and nosql databases.

• Participate in requirements analysis and design 
• Development of Web applications and RESTful APIs using C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, .NET Framework 4.7, C#, ASP.NET MVC, LINQ, Entity Framework 6.0, EF Core
• Development of Microservices using Clean Architecture, CQRS, .NET Design Patterns, SOLID Principles and Object-oriented design & analysis (OOA & OOD)
• Development of Microservices using Microsoft Azure or AWS, Dockers and Kubernetes
• Write clean, scalable code using .NET programming languages (C#)
• Write Microsoft SQL queries and optimize both external and internal DB processes and procedures.
• Use automation tools, following CI/CD best practices in an established DevOps team.

• Expert-level knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Oracle/Postgres.
• Expert-level knowledge on one or all of Hibernate/JPA/MyBatis.
• Experience in RESTful services and fundamentals of MVC architecture.
• Experience in working with and configuring web and application servers, such as Apache/Nginx/Tomcat.
• Proficient understanding of build tools, such as Maven/Gradle and code versioning tools, such as Git/SVN.
• Ability to review specifications documents and provide technical inputs on successfully implementing business solutions.

As a Java Tech Lead, you would be expected to understand business requirements, represent Needle to external stakeholders, and have experience in working in agile teams.
