A Day in the Life:

• Collaborate with developers and product managers to understand feature requirements.
• Review feature specifications and design detailed test cases.
• Perform manual tests on payment gateway systems, including transaction flows and API validations.
• Identify, log, and track defects using tools like JIRA and prioritize them for resolution.
• Conduct regression testing to ensure system stability after updates.
• Participate in team discussions to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Document test results and prepare for upcoming sprint activities.

Key Qualifications and Skills:

• 5 - 7 years of QA experience, with at least 3 years in payment gateways, fintech, or banking systems.
• Strong knowledge of payment processing.
• Experience with REST/SOAP APIs, webhooks, and encryption (TLS, AES, RSA). Familiarity with PCI-DSS, PSD2, GDPR, and AML/KYC processes.
• Proficiency in SQL for database validation (transaction logs, ledger entries).
• Hands-on experience with JMeter, Postman, Selenium, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of blockchain-based payouts (optional but a plus).

Key Responsibilities:

1. Test Planning & Strategy: Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for payment processing, refunds, chargebacks, settlements, and fraud detection. Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS, PSD2, and other financial regulations.
2. Functional & Integration Testing: Validate API integrations with banks, PSPs (Payment Service Providers) and third-party vendors. Test transaction flows (success, failure, retries, timeouts) and edge cases.
3. Security & Compliance Testing: Perform penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and data encryption checks. Ensure PCI compliance and adherence to EMV, 3D Secure (3DS2), and SCA (Strong Customer Authentication).
4. Performance & Load Testing: Conduct stress testing to evaluate system behaviour under high transaction volumes (TPS - Transactions Per Second). Identify bottlenecks in authorization, settlement, and reconciliation processes.
5. Automation & Tools: Develop and maintain automated test scripts (using tools like Postman, Selenium, JMeter, or Karate). Work with CI/CD pipelines for regression testing.
6. Defect Management: Log, track, and prioritize bugs using JIRA, Bugzilla, or similar tools. Collaborate with developers, product managers, and compliance teams for issue resolution.
7. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain test documentation, including test cases, test data, and audit logs. Provide QA metrics and test summary reports to stakeholders.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Payment Switch Manual Tester to join our Quality Assurance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for rigorously testing and validating the functionality, reliability, and security of our core payment switch system, ensuring flawless transaction processing and compliance with all industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Test Planning & Design: Analyze payment switch requirements, technical specifications, and user stories to create comprehensive test plans, detailed test scenarios, and manual test cases.
• Test Execution: Execute functional, integration, regression, system, and end-to-end testing on the payment switch and related systems
• Transaction Flow Validation: Manually validate various payment transaction lifecycles, including authorization, clearing, settlement, and chargebacks for credit/debit cards, prepaid cards, and other payment methods.
• Defect Management: Identify, document, and track defects and inconsistencies using defect management tools (JIRA) and work closely with development teams to ensure timely solution.
• Protocol & Scheme Testing: Test and validate messages and protocols ( ISO 8583, SWIFT) and ensure compliance with card scheme mandates (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay).
• API Testing: Perform manual testing of APIs (REST/SOAP) related to payment processing, ensuring correct data validation, security, and error handling
• Data Validation: Execute SQL queries for backend database validation to ensure data integrity and consistency across the transaction lifecycle.
• Collaboration: Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, provide testing estimates, and communicate test status and risks to stakeholders.
• Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed test reports, test summary reports, and other necessary QA documentation.

Required Experience & Skills

• 3+ years of proven experience in manual software testing.
• 3+ years of direct experience testing Payment Switch systems, Card Management Systems.
• Strong understanding of the Payments Domain and the end-to-end transaction lifecycle (Authorization, Clearing, Settlement).
• In-depth knowledge of payment industry standards and protocols, such as ISO 8583.
• Proficiency in designing and executing various types of manual tests (Functional, Regression).
• Unix/Linux – Comfortable with command-line tools, log analysis.
• Experience with testing tools for APIs ( Postman, SoapUI) and defect tracking (JIRA).
• Solid skills in writing and executing SQL queries for data validation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal).

We're looking for a QA Engineer to help with manual testing as well as introduce automation to our processes where possible. Candidates will need to be familiar with and able to write scripts, set up automation processes, and familiarise themselves with the products we build (web and mobile apps).

• The role will also require you to document test cases with an understanding of what the product does and how the end-user might approach it.
• Understand functional and non-functional testing requirements of web and mobile applications.
• Document functional testing scenarios and cases, for manual testing of API functionality using Postman and manual testing of User Interface elements (web, mobile, and mobile web)
