Principal Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Contributing to the backend of the product development.
• Maintaining these applications for accuracy and high availability.
• Contributing to and enforcing great coding practices through code reviews.
• Sharing knowledge with your colleagues during regular knowledge Sharing sessions.
• Collaborate across functions and own the planning, estimation and execution for parts of the product.
• Continuously identify opportunities to improve system designs, architecture and implementation standards.

Requirements:

• Experience of architecting and building products/business critical backend applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with relational databases like Postgres or MySQL.
• Experience of deploying and maintaining web applications.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure like AWS, GCP etc.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and stress testing tools.
• Good communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

● Developing large multi-tenant applications in Rails.
● Understanding Rails best practices and religiously introducing those to our
codebase.
● Knowledge on how to do effective Refactoring.
● Ability to write unit tests and following those practices religiously.
● Working closely with the Product managers and UX team.
● Helping QAs to write automated integration tests.
● Staying up-to-date with current and future Backend technologies and
architectures.

● Ruby on Rails architecture best practices
● Knowledge on the latest versions on ROR
● Strong OOP knowledge in Ruby.
● Asynchronous Networking in Ruby
● Designing RESTFul HTTP APIs using JSON-Schema or JSON API (jsonapi.org).
● Ability to architect and develop API only backend
● Experience in using ActiveRecordSerializer
● Understanding O-Auth2 or JWT (Json Web Token) authentication mechanisms.
● How to use RSpec
● Rails Security Best Practices
● PostgreSQL and Rails.
● SQL concepts like Joins, Relationships etc.
● Understanding DB Partition strategies.
● Knowledge about refactoring ActiveRecord Models (read this - “7 Patterns to
Refactor Fat ActiveRecord Models”).
● Understanding scaling strategies for a high-traffic Rails applications (2 million+
requests a day).
● Background Job processing using Redis and Sidekiq
● Experience in using Amazon Web Services (AWS) tools.
● Writing automated Deployment Scripts using Capistrano, Ansible etc.
● Sending emails in Rails
● Knowledge in Linux and Git is mandatory

• Experience in NodeJS providing backend solutions with NodeJS in self or cloud environments.
• Experience with frameworks such as Angular, React, and Express etc.
• Integration of data storage solutions such as Redis, MongoDB, Postgres, MySql.
• Hands on experience with HTML, CSS, and AJAX, javascript.
• Understanding of HTTP protocol, RESTful data structures and JSON format
• Familiarity with package managers (NPM, Bower)
• Experience with cloud services such as Amazon, Google, or Microsoft.
• Familiarity with version control (Git, Mercurial, Subversion)
• Exposure to working with API's (preferable RESTful /SOAP API's)
• Experience with cross-browser, cross-platform, and design constraints on the web.
• Experience in software design patterns, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Proven problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to operate effectively both independently and within a team.

Qualifications BA/BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mathematics or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 8-12 years’ of overall experience in working on Banking & Financial services domain preferably in a product development company Experience/ability to design solution architecture for Core Banking implementations is highly preferred. Should have ability to articulate and design product extensibility, customizations and integrations in-line with product architecture Software Development experience through hands on coding in a general purpose programming language.
