About the role

We are hiring a Principal Engineer to own the hardest technical problems in our product and see them through from first sketch to stable production. You will set technical direction, design systems that scale, and raise the engineering bar through your own work and the people around you. This is a hands-on leadership role: you write code, review designs, and ship.

What will you do?

You will own outcomes, not just tasks. Expect to spend your time on the following.

• Own projects end to end. Take an ambiguous problem, shape the requirements, design the solution, break down the work, deliver it to production, and stay accountable for how it runs afterwards.

• Lead system design. Author and review architecture for services, data pipelines and integrations, with clear trade-offs on scale, latency, cost, consistency and reliability.

• Write and review critical code. Build the hardest components yourself, and set standards for code quality, testing and maintainability through code and design reviews.

• Own deployment and operations. Design CI/CD, infrastructure and release strategies. Drive observability, on-call readiness, incident response and post-incident learning.

• Solve hard problems. Debug production issues across the stack, and find root causes in performance, concurrency, data and scaling problems.

• Mentor and multiply. Coach senior and junior engineers, grow future tech leads, and make the whole team faster and more confident.

• Partner across functions. Work with product, design, data and business teams to turn goals into technical plans, and to say no or reshape scope when needed.

• Shape technical strategy. Guide build-versus-buy decisions, manage tech debt, evaluate new technologies, and contribute to the engineering roadmap.

• Raise the bar. Help define engineering practices, hiring standards and culture, and take part in interviewing.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Core engineering

• 10+ years of professional software engineering, with a track record of shipping and running production systems.

• Strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms and complexity, operating systems, networking, databases and concurrency.

• Fluency in at least one major backend language (for example Python, Go, Java, or Node.js/ TypeScript) and the ability to pick up others quickly.

• Deep knowledge of relational and NoSQL data stores: schema design, indexing, transactions, query tuning and replication.

System design and problem solving

• Proven ability to design distributed systems that are scalable, fault tolerant and cost aware, and to explain the trade-offs clearly.

• Experience with APIs, event-driven and asynchronous architectures, queues, caching and service-to-service communication.

• A structured approach to ambiguous problems: break them down, test assumptions, decide with incomplete data, and measure results.

• Strong debugging instincts, including performance profiling and production troubleshooting.

Delivery and operations

• Have led at least two significant projects from inception to production, including planning, milestones, risk management and launch.

• Hands-on experience with deployment: CI/CD pipelines, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), a major cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure), and infrastructure as code.

• Practical experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, SLOs and incident management.

• Habit of writing tests and automation, and of leaving systems more reliable than you found them.

Leadership and communication

• Experience leading engineers without formal authority, through influence, mentoring and clear technical writing.

• Excellent written and verbal communication: design docs, RFCs and concise updates to non-technical stakeholders.

• Ownership mindset, sound judgment on priorities, and comfort working in a fast-moving environment.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, lending or another regulated, data-heavy domain.

• Exposure to AI/ML or LLM-based systems in production: model serving, evaluation, retrieval, and cost and latency management.

• Deep experience with data engineering: streaming, batch pipelines, warehouses or search systems.

• Security and compliance awareness: authentication, encryption, audit trails, secure SDLC.

• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, high-throughput systems or zero downtime migrations.

• Open-source contributions, conference talks, or technical writing.

• Experience scaling an engineering team or helping set up hiring and onboarding practices.

  • Proud of building strong, maintainable solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Curious, quick learner, and always exploring new technologies.
  • Positive, “let’s figure it out” teammate who lifts others up.

At Metron Security, we’re all about helping security teams work smarter. If you’re excited to take on big engineering challenges, mentor others, and drive technical vision in a growing company, we’d love to talk.

Generative AI

About Juicelabs

Where creative engineering meets applied AI.

We build vertical, AI-native tools that unlock fresh insights and creative superpowers for clients in advertising, ecommerce, and beyond. We're a nimble team of founders and builders obsessed with using AI to solve real problems in ways that didn't exist eighteen months ago.

The Opportunity

A year ago, we would have posted this as a backend role. That role doesn't really exist any more.

Code has become nearly invisible. Agents write it, test it, and iterate on it faster than anyone could read it. What's left is the work above it: deciding what's worth building, designing systems that hold up at 10x, and building the setup that turns a clear spec into working software.

That's the job. At your level, it isn't one system. It's several workstreams, running at once.

You'll work directly with our Cofounder/CTO on products going from zero to one, with AI at the core of both what we build and how we build it. Real ownership, real scope, and an unusual amount of leverage: one engineer with good judgment and a well-tuned agent setup now ships what a small team used to.

What you'll do

  • Own multiple workstreams in parallel. Two or three features of the same product moving at once, each with its own scope, edge cases, and failure modes. You decide where your attention goes this week, and nothing goes stale.
  • Run a fleet, not a single agent. Design the setup that makes high-throughput work possible: how work gets broken down, specced, and run across many agents at once, so output scales without things breaking.
  • Design the system. Service boundaries, data models, failure modes. Make the architectural calls before a line gets generated, and be able to explain the trade-off six months later.
  • Write the spec. PRDs and technical designs are the new source code. A vague spec produces confidently wrong software, fast. Scope, edge cases, non-goals, what "done" means.
  • Own it end to end. Ideation → design → build → deploy → monitor → iterate, including functional UX. Nobody hands you tickets.
  • Set the workflow. Bring your harness: CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, subagents, custom commands, eval loops — whatever makes agents reliable rather than merely impressive. We want to steal your good ideas.

What we're looking for

  • High agency. You see the gap and close it. You don't wait for direction, and you don't need to be chased for follow-through. This is the single trait we screen hardest for. And you can do it across several workstreams at once, without dropping threads.
  • Real system design depth. You can reason about consistency, caching, queues, and scale — and about complexity, because you need to know when an elegant-looking solution is quietly quadratic. LeetCode ninja not required. Being able to explain why this won't blow up at 10x, very much required.
  • Clear thinking, put to paper. You get the thinking straight first, then write it down so nobody has to guess: PRDs, design docs, PR comments. Writing is most of how you'll direct both humans and models, and muddy thinking on paper becomes muddy software.
  • You've shipped to production. Deployed things, monitored them, been paged by them, fixed them. Docker, CI/CD, cloud infra. Our stack is mostly Python (FastAPI), Postgres, GCP/AWS — but we care more about how you think than which framework you've memorised.
  • You orchestrate AI, not just use it. Not "I've tried Copilot," and not just "I use Claude Code." You've run multiple agents in parallel and developed opinions: how to split work so they don't step on each other, where they excel, where they confidently lie, how you structure a repo so they don't wander, and how you verify what comes back at volume.
  • Startup energy. Multiple hats, fast cycles, and the judgment to balance "ship it now" against "will this survive contact with real users?"

Experience

3–6 years of professional experience (full-time positions, excluding internships).

Location / How to apply

On-site at our office in HSR Layout, Bangalore.

Apply through this posting, or email us with a link to the best thing you've built.

What this role is

You are an engineer who leads projects at the scope of a service or major subsystem.

That means: when a problem lands on your desk, it's usually ambiguous. Your job is to turn it into a clear problem statement, design a system to solve it, ship it through to production, and own how it behaves once it's there. You'll work with one or two engineers on most projects, and you'll be the technical person product, ops, and other engineering teams talk to about that domain.

You're not a senior individual contributor who only writes code for assigned tickets. You're not a tech lead who's stopped writing code. You're the person between those two — still hands-on, but increasingly the one shaping what gets built.

What you'll do

  • Solve 2–4 complex problems a year end-to-end: shape the problem, design the system, ship it, monitor it.
  • Design single-service systems independently. Define API contracts, data models, scale and reliability requirements. Document and review your design with peers before building.
  • Turn ambiguity into clarity. Take half-formed product tasks and partner with PMs to define what's actually being built. Push back when the ask doesn't make sense.
  • Stay hands-on. Write code that goes into production. Drive code reviews. Debug across service boundaries. Refactor when the codebase needs it.
  • Mentor 1–2 junior engineers. Be someone's first reviewer. Pair when it helps. Take their growth as your responsibility, not a side activity.
  • Be in hiring. Interview candidates regularly. Help shape the interview bar for your function.
  • Own outcomes, not output. Track the business or operational metric your work moves. If it doesn't move, that's a problem you own — not a problem you delivered to.

What we're looking for

  • Over 4 years of professional experience in software development, specifically focused on solving large-scale technical challenges.
  • Expert-level proficiency in at least one major programming language (such as Java, GO, Rust, NodeJS etc) with a focus on writing scalable, maintainable, and unit-tested code.
  • Strong command of object-oriented design, design patterns, and the creation of intuitive class-level interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-threading, concurrency, and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Deep understanding of relational databases (Postgres) and various NoSQL technologies like HBase, Elasticsearch, or Aerospike, Cassandra
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the full software development life cycle on Linux platforms.
  • Proven ability to build highly scalable applications that manage complex business logic and massive datasets.
  • A proactive, "go-getter" mindset characterized by high energy and dedication to task ownership.
  • Experience thriving in fast-paced startup environments with a strong sense of commitment and accountability.
  • A passionate drive to tackle complex, real-world problems through innovative engineering.
  • You've made and defended technical decisions, picked up problems no one assigned, or built things people use that no one asked for.
  • Strong fundamentals in your primary stack — concurrency, data modeling, debugging across systems, performance work. We're stack-agnostic for the right person.
  • Experience designing systems with explicit attention to scale, reliability, and cost — not just functional correctness.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to monitor project outcomes and iteratively refine features based on real-world impact.
