About the Role
We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to manage, monitor, and optimize our database environments. The role involves day-to-day administration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and ensuring high availability and security of PostgreSQL databases.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor PostgreSQL database health, performance, and availability on an ongoing basis
- Write and manage database commands across DDL, DML, DCL, and TCL categories
- Perform database backups and restores using tools like pg_dump and psql
- Troubleshoot database issues including connectivity, performance, and data integrity problems
- Perform database tuning to improve query performance and overall system efficiency
- Identify, analyze, and resolve slow-running queries
- Use EXPLAIN (and EXPLAIN ANALYZE) to review query execution plans and optimize accordingly
- Monitor query performance using pg_stat_statements
- Track active sessions and connections using pg_stat_activity
- Manage database users and roles, including creating, modifying, and assigning permissions
- Grant and revoke access privileges in line with security and compliance requirements
- Perform query optimization to improve application performance
