Job Description

The Role:

Company is hiring a hands-on Director of Engineering who codes, architects systems, and builds teams. You’ll set the technical foundation, drive engineering excellence, and own the architecture of our AI, 3D, and XR platform.

This is not a pure management role - expect to spend 50–60% of your time writing code, solving deep technical problems, and owning mission-critical systems. As we scale, this role transitions into CTO, taking full ownership of technical vision and long-term strategy. 

What You’ll Own:

1. Technical Leadership & Architecture

● Architect company’s full-stack platform across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI.

● Scale core systems: VersaAI engine, rendering pipeline, AR deployment, analytics.

● Make decisions on stack, scalability patterns, architecture, and technical debt.

● Own design for high-performance 3D asset processing, real-time rendering, and ML deployment.

● Lead architectural discussions, design reviews, and set engineering standards.

2. Hands-On Development

● Write production-grade code across frontend, backend, APIs, and cloud infra.

● Build critical features and core system components independently.

● Debug complex systems and optimize performance end-to-end.

● Implement and optimize AI/ML pipelines for 3D generation, CV, and recognition.

● Build scalable backend services for large-scale asset processing and real-time pipelines.

● Develop WebGL/Three.js rendering and AR workflows.

3. Team Building & Engineering Management

● Hire and grow a team of 5–8 engineers initially (scaling to 15–20).

● Establish engineering culture, values, and best practices.

● Build career frameworks, performance systems, and growth plans.

● Conduct 1:1s, mentor engineers, and drive continuous improvement.

● Set up processes for agile execution, deployments, and incident response.

4. Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration

● Work with the founder and product team on roadmap, feasibility, and prioritization.

● Translate product requirements into technical execution plans.

● Collaborate with design for UX quality and technical alignment.

● Support sales and customer success with integrations and technical discussions.

● Contribute technical inputs to product strategy and customer-facing initiatives.

5. Engineering Operations & Infrastructure

● Own CI/CD, testing frameworks, deployments, and automation.

● Create monitoring, logging, and alerting setups for reliability.

● Manage AWS infrastructure with a focus on cost and performance.

● Build internal tools, documentation, and developer workflows.

● Ensure enterprise-grade security, compliance, and reliability.

Lantern Pharma is looking for talented and highly motivated R Shiny based front end web application developers to visualize the data analyzed / reports generated using bioinformatics pipelines. Leveraging your background and applying software engineering principles, to develop applications and tools in support of data visualization and reporting using R / R Shiny. You will be involved in generating complex graphs used for statistical analysis and interpretation using interactive libraries such as Plotly. In addition to development of new code, you will support and maintain standard R programs, which will comprise a library of code to be used for future development. This is a 6 months contract position (40 hrs / week) with possibilities of full time employment based on performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and develop interactive web applications using R / R Shiny to visualize ML outputs, multi-omics data and reports generated by bioinformatics pipelines
• Use the open-source or proprietary R libraries to build useful applications and packages
• Write efficient, clean and well tested code that adheres to best practices
• Organize data, analysis, reports, and applications into reproducible pipelines
• Test and debug applications to ensure they are working correctly, using both manual and automated testing techniques
• Stay up-to-date with the latest R packages and developments in the pharma industry
• Publish R packages to internal company repository
• Deploy and maintain the R Shiny web-application on the AWS server

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in a scientific discipline such as Statistics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics etc.
• Minimum 2 years of R / R Shiny, R Markdown experience with standard packages for data visualization and analysis
• Proven ability of building interactive R-shiny application (demo of the R-shiny application)
• Proficient in libraries such as ggplot2, plotly, dplyr, Highcharter and DT
• Must have experience in generating and working with R markdown reports
• Experience of AWS to host R shiny application is a plus
• Knowledge of cancer biology, genomics and drug development is a plus
• Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Python a plus
• Experience in building a database using Relational / Non relational Database (SQL / NoSQL)
• Must be capable of developing collaborative relationships with colleagues

Job description

The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who will work in coordination with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain our next generation websites and web tools. You will also lead a team of junior developers and designers to execute projects end to end. You must be comfortable working as part of a team while taking the initiative to take lead on new innovations and projects.

Responsibilities

• Development of responsive and SEO friendly web pages in WordPress from Figma designs.
• Developing and maintaining website backend in WordPress or PHP including MySQL database.
• Development of responsive front-end with HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery.
• Development of custom and re-usable components in form of WordPress plugins and themes.
• Doing performance testing and optimizing websites.
• Lead website development for projects, working alongside a team of developers in creating, maintaining, and updating the client's websites
• Oversee the development for website redesign projects by working closely with other internal developers
• Direct the team on sprint requirements and output
• Evaluate completed work and offer answers to roadblocks
• Troubleshoot for website issues and bugs, brainstorm options and provide client-friendly explanations for solutions
• Lead the UX strategy for new web projects to develop the proposed sitemap, wireframes, and user flows, based on the client’s needs
• Complete the front-end development tasks, including website maintenance, plugin updates, CSS improvements, and post creation
• Collaborate directly with designers to implement designs and provide feedback if necessary
• Ensure the websites are client-friendly, and have an intuitive back-end to allow for easy content and page updates
• Participate in client meetings, WordPress back-end training sessions and create training materials as needed

Qualifications

In particular we look for people who can:

• Code backend services, ideally using Node.js or Java, or other server side compiled language.
• Design and develop Rest API with integrations to lots of external systems. Experience of GraphQL is an advantage
• Develop modern and secure web front ends, ideally using React, Express and Redux.
• Interface with No-SQL/ MongoDB or SQL based data bases (PortgresSQL).
• Deploy their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS and GitHub. Experience with kubernetes and serverless is an advantage.
• Deliver in agile manner while coding cleanly, automating testing and clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
• Takes ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
