Backend Developer

About the Role 

We're seeking a Python Backend Developer to join our insurtech analytics team. This role focuses on developing backend APIs, automating insurance reporting processes, and supporting data analysis tools. You'll work with insurance data, build REST APIs, and help streamline operational workflows through automation. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Automate insurance reporting processes including bordereaux, reconciliations, and data extraction from various file formats 
• Support and maintain interactive dashboards and reporting tools for business stakeholders 
• Develop Python scripts and applications for data processing, validation, and transformation 
• Develop and maintain backend APIs using FastAPI or Flask 
• Perform data analysis and generate insights from insurance datasets 
• Automate recurring analytical and reporting tasks 
• Work with SQL databases to query, analyze, and extract data 
• Collaborate with business users to understand requirements and deliver solutions 
• Document code, processes, and create user guides for dashboards and tools 
• Support data quality initiatives and implement validation checks 

Requirements 

Essential 

• 2+ years of Python development experience 
• Strong knowledge of Python libraries: Pandas, NumPy for data manipulation 
• Experience building web applications or dashboards with Python frameworks 
• Knowledge of FastAPI or Flask for building backend APIs and applications 
• Proficiency in SQL and working with relational databases 
• Experience with data visualization libraries (Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn) 
• Ability to work with Excel, CSV, and other data file formats 
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills 
• Good communication skills to work with non-technical stakeholders 

Desirable 

• Experience in insurance or financial services industry 
• Familiarity with insurance reporting processes (bordereaux, reconciliations, claims data) 
• Experience with Azure cloud services (Azure Functions, Blob Storage, SQL Database) 
• Experience with version control systems (Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps) 
• Experience with API development and RESTful services

Key Responsibilities:

●    Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and secure backend systems using Java.

●    Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices to support application functionality.

●    Collaborate closely with frontend developers to ensure smooth integration with React/Angular-based frontend systems.

●    Work with both relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases to design data schemas, optimize queries, and maintain data integrity.

●    Leverage cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to deploy, monitor, and scale applications.

●    Implement and maintain containerization using Docker and Kubernetes (K8S).

●    Write unit tests for both backend and frontend code to ensure code quality and reliability.

●    Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality standards and mentor junior developers.

●    Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, proposing and driving best practices in backend development, testing, and deployment.

Required Skills And Experience

●    Bachelors or Masters in computer science or related fields.

●    5+ years of experience in backend development, with strong expertise in Java (must-have).

●    Solid experience with frontend frameworks such as React or Angular.

●    Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, Docker, and NoSQL databases (such as MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.).

●    Strong experience with SQL databases (such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.), including database design, optimization, and query writing.

●    Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and Kubernetes (K8S).

●    Experience in writing unit tests and understanding of test-driven development (TDD) principles.

●    Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Nice to Have:

●    Exposure to Automation Testing Frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress).

●    Experience working in a SaaS (Software as a Service) environment.

●    Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 4+ years of experience in software development
• Strong proficiency in Java with deep understanding of web technology stack
• Hands-on experience developing applications with Spring Boot framework
• Solid understanding of Python programming language with practical Flask framework experience
• Working knowledge of NATS server for messaging and streaming data
• Experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes
• Understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker)

Responsibilities & ownership

• Own design, implementation, testing, and support of next-generation features related to scalability, reliability, robustness, usability, security, and performance of the product.
• Capable of working Individually and collaboratively with other engineers.
• Collaborate with support and field resources to make sure that customers are successful with Dremio

Requirements

• Fluency in Java and/or C++ with 3 to 5+ years of experience developing production level software
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, multi-threaded and asynchronous patterns and their applications towards developing scalable systems
• Experience developing scalable distributed systems and deploying, scaling, and managing microservices
• Experience with  containers and kubernetes for orchestration and container management in private and public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) a plus
• Excellent communication skills and affinity for collaboration and teamwork

• B.S. or M.S in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience

Qualification & Experience:

• Bachelor of Engineering, preferably in Computer Science/or related fields or Masters, from a premier college
• 2 to 6 years overall software development experience
• Proven hands-on Software Development experience
