Backend Engineer

Basic

● Design, maintain, and monitor infrastructure for data products

● Design and develop RESTful APIs for the data infrastructure

● Design, implement and drive adoption of new analytic technologies and solutions

● Work closely with data scientists, front end engineers and peers to gather requirements and

develop solutions

● Handle and resolve issues escalated from the production operational environment.

● Troubleshoot performance, reliability, and scalability issues.

● Excellent Problem solving skills

● A Code Craftsman that follows best software development and coding practices delivering

understandable and maintainable code with thorough unit tests coverage

Requirements

● 10+ years of development experience with Java, Scala, and/or Python

● Experience with writing and executing queries on RDBMS and NoSQL databases. Working knowledge of MongoDB, MySQL. We are not looking for a DBA.

● Experience with ElasticSearch, OpenSearch, Vector Embeddings, and large-scale search systems.

● Experience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency backend services in production environments.

● Experience with horizontal and vertical scaling strategies, load balancing, caching, rate

limiting, and performance optimization.

● Experience identifying and resolving application bottlenecks through profiling, monitoring, and performance tuning.

● Experience in virtualization technologies and deployment frameworks (familiarity with working on UNIX shell, Jenkins.)

● Bachelors or masters degree in computer science or equivalent

Desired

● Experience working with FastAPI/Pylons Web Framework.

● Familiarity with messaging and distributed processing systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, SQS, or Celery.

● Experience designing systems to support millions of requests, large datasets, and high-concurrency workloads.

● Adept at AI Coding assistants, leveraging them beyond prompting. Working experience in Skill and tool development and usage in AI Coding tools.

• Extensive experience in developing enterprise-scale systems for global organization. Should possess good architectural knowledge and be aware of enterprise application design patterns.

1. Develop, maintain, and enhance robust backend systems using Python3 and frameworks like Django (mandatory), Flask, and FastAPI (good to have).
2. Design, implement, and maintain highly efficient and automated continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes using Jenkins and configuration management with Ansible.
3. Elevate our testing culture by architecting and implementing innovative testing strategies, focusing on both unit and integration testing to ensure exceptional code quality and extensive coverage.
4. Follow peer-to-peer code reviews and cross-team collaboration to build scalable and reliable solutions.
5. Proficiently work with at least one cloud technology, preferably AWS, to deploy and manage applications in the cloud environment.
6. Possess knowledge of Nginx, load balancing, and scalability to optimize system performance and reliability.
7. Good experience working in distributed micro-service architecture and driving them with crucial requirements like request tracing, debugging critical issues, logging, monitoring, and alerting. 
8. Work in containerized environments using Docker and Docker Compose, and have experience with AWS ECS for container orchestration.
9. Prioritize maintainability and reliability in developing and maintaining software systems, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in our product ecosystem.
10. Collaborate effectively within a team, taking initiatives and driving projects forward with minimal micro-management.

We are seeking an experienced Java Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing scalable applications using Java and related frameworks.

Preferred Skills: 

We want to really emphasize Spring Boot (2+ years although 1+ if candidate particularly strong) Using Redis as a caching technology with Spring Boot would be a strong plus 

Using Redisson (a particular java client library that can be easily configured with Spring Boot) would be a strong plus 

Knowledge of event based messaging systems (Amazon SNS, Amazon MQ, or Kafka (in AWS) Data Cleaning tools and techniques in CSV and Excel 

Strong Knowledge of Spring Boot Dependency Injection and Configuration 

Experience with APIs for popular e-commerce platforms (Magento, Shopify, Big Commerce, etc.) 

SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) Tools in the context of AWS. (Tools classified under DevOps) 

Experience with managing AWS EC2 VM instances and using AWS managed Services (like S3, MySQL, VPC/Networking, Lambda, etc) 

Performance Analysis Tools (Code Profiling) on Java VM and particularly Spring Boot 

Nice to Have: 

Experience with Cassandra or MongoDB with Spring Boot 

Horizontal Scaling with Spring Boot (considerations running multiple instances of Spring Boot instances)
