Responsibilities and Requirements

• Experience in designing and maintaining high volume and scalable micro-services architecture on cloud infrastructure

• Knowledge in Linux/Unix Administration and Python/Shell Scripting

• Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS (EC2, ELB, S3, Auto-scaling, VPC, Lambda), GCP, Azure

• Knowledge in deployment automation, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (Jenkins, Maven, Puppet, Chef, GitLab) and monitoring tools like Zabbix, Cloud Watch Monitoring, Nagios

• Knowledge of Java Virtual Machines, Apache Tomcat, Nginx, Apache Kafka, Microservices architecture, Caching mechanisms

• Experience in enterprise application development, maintenance and operations

• Knowledge of best practices and IT operations in an always-up, always-available service

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, judgment and decision-making skill

What You’ll Do

● Deploy, automate and maintain web-scale infrastructure with leading public cloud vendors such as Amazon Web Services, Digital Ocean & Google Cloud Platform.

● Take charge of DevOps activities for CI/CD with the latest tech stacks.

● Acquire industry-recognized, professional cloud certifications (AWS/Google) in the capacity of developer or architect Devise multi-region technical solutions.

● Implementing the DevOps philosophy and strategy across different domains in organisation.

● Build automation at various levels, including code deployment to streamline release process

● Will be responsible for architecture of cloud services

● 24*7 monitoring of the infrastructure

● Use programming/scripting in your day-to-day work

● Have shell experience - for example Powershell on Windows, or BASH on *nix

● Use a Version Control System, preferably git

● Hands on at least one CLI/SDK/API of at least one public cloud ( GCP, AWS, DO)

● Scalability, HA and troubleshooting of web-scale applications.

● Infrastructure-As-Code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation

● CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, CircleCI

● Container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift

● Monitoring and alerting systems: e.g. NewRelic, AWS CloudWatch, Google StackDriver, Graphite, Nagios/ICINGA

What you bring to the table

● Hands on experience in Cloud compute services, Cloud Function, Networking, Load balancing, Autoscaling.

● Hands on with GCP/AWS Compute & Networking services i.e. Compute Engine, App Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Function, Networking (VPC, Firewall, Load Balancer), Cloud SQL, Datastore.

● DBs: Postgresql, MySQL, Elastic Search, Redis, kafka, MongoDB or other NoSQL systems

Problem Statement-Solution

Only 10% of India speaks English and 90% speak over 25 languages and 1000s of dialects. The internet has largely been in English. A good part of India is now getting internet connectivity thanks to cheap smartphones and Jio. The non-English speaking internet users will balloon to about 600 million users out of the total 750 million internet users in India by 2020. This will make the vernacular segment one of the largest segments in the world - almost 2x the size of the US population. The vernacular segment has very few products that they can use on the internet.

One large human need is that of sharing thoughts and connecting with people of the same community on the basis of language and common interests. Twitter serves this need globally but the experience is mostly in English. There’s a large unaddressed need for these vernacular users to express themselves in their mother tongue and connect with others from their community. Koo is a solution to this problem.

About Koo

Koo was founded in March 2020, as a micro-blogging platform in both Indian languages and English, which gives a voice to the millions of Indians who communicate in Indian languages.

Currently available in Assamese, Bengali, English, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu, Koo enables people from across India to express themselves online in their mother tongues. In a country where under 10% of the population speaks English as a native language, Koo meets the need for a social media platform that can deliver an immersive language experience to an Indian user, thereby enabling them to connect and interact with each other. The recently introduced ‘Talk to Type’ enables users to leverage the voice assistant to share their thoughts without having to type. In August 2021, Koo crossed 10 million downloads, in just 16 months of launch.

Technology skill sets required for a matching profile 

• Experience between 3 to 7 years in a devops role with mandatory one or more stints at a fast paced startup.
• Mandatory experience with containers, kubernetes (EKS) (setting up from scratch), istio and microservices.
• Sound knowledge of technologies like Terraform, Automation Scripts, Cron jobs etc. Must have worked with goals of putting infra as code like setting up new environments with code.
• Knowledge of industry standards around monitoring, alerting, self healing, high availability, auto scaling etc.
• Exhaustive experience with various cloud technologies (especially on AWS) like SQS, SNS, Elastic Search, Elastic Cache, Elastic Transcoder, VPC, Subnets, Security groups etc.
• Must have set up stable CI-CD pipelines with capabilities to do zero downtime deployments on any one of rolling updates, blue green or canary modes.
• Experience with VPN and LDAP solutions for securely login to infrastructure and proving SSO. 8. Master of deploying and troubleshooting all layers of application from network, frontend, backend and databases (MongoDB, Redis, Postgres, Cassandra, ElasticSearch, Aerospike etc).

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. Your primary responsibility will be the development of all server-side logic, definition, and maintenance of the central database, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to request from the frontend. You will also be responsible for integrating the front-end elements built by your co-workers into the application. Therefore, a basic understanding of frontend technologies is necessary as well.

• You have experience of 2-4 years in building high-performance consumer-facing mobile applications at Product companies of a decent scale.
• You can write code preferably in Golang and Python.

Key Responsibilities :

Look through the various DevOps Tools/Technologies and identify the strengths and provide direction to the DevOps automation team

Out-of-box thought process on the DevOps Automation Platform implementation

Expose various tools and technologies and do POC on integration of the these tools

Evaluate Backend API's for various DevOps tools

Perform code reviews keep in context of RASUI

Mentor the team on the various E2E integrations

Be Liaison in evangelizing the automation solution currently implemented

Bring in various DevOps best Practices/Principles and participate in adoption with various app teams

Must have:

Should possess Bachelors/Masters in computer science with minimum of 8+ years of experience

Should possess minimum 3 years of strong experience in DevOps

Should possess expertise in using various DevOps tools libraries and API's (Jenkins/JIRA/AWX/Nexus/GitHub/BitBucket/SonarQube)

Should possess expertise in optimizing the DevOps stack ( Containers/Kubernetes/Monitoring )
