Hello recruiters’, I am going to show you the best alternatives of Angelist (now Wellfound) that you can use to fulfil your hiring needs.
You don’t have to limit yourself to AngelList (now Wellfound) for your hiring needs. When there are great platforms that can give you better results than AngelList.
I have picked up the five best Angelist alternatives from my personal experiences for you.
But before that…
Why look for alternatives to AngelList(now Wellfound)?
Despite its popularity and rich user data, AngelList may not actually give results to everyone. Some of the most common reasons this happens are:
Higher noise
AngelList makes it super easy for anyone to browse and “show interest” in any startup. While that (apparently) makes things easy for job seekers, it also makes things tough for recruiters.
The problem is this one click way to “show interest” leads to too many irrelevant applications that need to be filtered out manually by companies. At CutShort, we have seen freshers applying for our CTO job!
Unresponsiveness
The higher amount of noise explained above leads to delay in recruiter action, which in turn, makes the candidates apply for more jobs, thus increasing the noise on the platform even further. Classic vicious circle.
Further, many startups complain that the candidates on AngelList are “passive job seekers” who are there to discover new startups, not necessarily to find new jobs.
If you’re able to get introductions, but nothing moves forward, this is likely the reason behind it.
High pricing
Like most platforms, AngelList is completely free for job seekers.
For startups looking to recruit (pre-seed or post-IPO), it charges from $249/Month
Recruiters looking to filter candidates based on educational background etc, need to use “Source” product and need to upgrade to a paid plan. The pricing looks affordable in the US, but looks high for startups elsewhere, especially in emerging economies like India. We covered AngelList’s pricing here.
So what are the top alternatives to AngelList for recruiting?
For startups hiring in India, these are the top 4 alternatives (in alphabetical order).
Cutshort
An AI-based tech hiring platform that also offers a range of tools for candidates and recruiters. It is the ideal alternative because the AI tool produces highly relevant matches. It also connects recruiters and candidates directly. Although it is a tech hiring platform it also attracts start-ups and candidates looking to work at start-ups.
CutShort is India’s leading tech hiring platform with the USP of leveraging artificial intelligence to connect recruiters with job aspirants. Founded in 2015, it is currently used by more than 16,500 companies and over 18,00,000 professionals to find matches. It offers faster and higher relevance matches than sites like AngelLIst. CutShort also offers the option of connecting with other developers through a WhatsApp bot.
CutShort offers different pricing packages for recruiters, including micro, steady, scale up and enterprise, ranging from Rs 44.,970 per year to Rs 12 lakh onwards. It is 100 per cent free to use for candidates.
F6S
Along the lines of AngelList, it helps founders hire for startup jobs. It enables startups to raise funds as well. It is also used as a social media site where people connect with each other. However, it has a big overlap with AngelList, in terms of the model and users.
F6S is a platform where founders can find accelerators, grants and contracts. It was founded in late 2011. The platform offers a talent search, where candidates may look for startup jobs. It is essentially a platform for startup founders that also offers a job search. F6S, which derives its name from the word Founders – the six letters between F and S, is indeed essentially a community for founders. It offers a platform for 4 million founders
Job posting and connecting with recruiters is free on F6S.
Indeed
An employment-related search engine, with job listings. Employers may post jobs while candidates can post resumes to find the right match. The user interface/user experience may need more aesthetics and seamless features.
Indeed was launched in 2004. It provides resources to help candidates search for jobs and research companies. It also has an online resume builder to help candidates build their resumes. It offers job alerts as well. The job site has more than 250 million unique monthly visitors.
Indeed has a free model and sponsored jobs pricing model. The sponsored jobs is a pay-per-performance model, where recruiters only pay when candidates click the post.
Monster
An online hiring platform that helps recruiters and candidates connect with each other. It also offers career advice for candidates. The interface however seems slightly dated and relevance of results may be low, apart from repetitiveness.
Monster was launched in 1999. Although it started off as only a job board, it is now a job site with features like salary index and job alerts. It also offers career advice. For recruiters, it offers templates to build job ads. It also has an applicant tracking system. It has over 67 million registered job seekers and leverages the database by offering resume database packages to recruiters.
Monster has a free and premium services model for candidates. The premium services are paid and offer features like career booster and profile highlighter. The premium services start from Rs 999 to Rs 3999, depending on the service the candidate opts for. For employers, Monster offers packages for quick job posting and premium job posting. These packages depend on the number of posts and days. One quick job posting costs Rs 891.
LinkedIn Job Search
A social media site for job seekers, recruiters and sharing of industry updates. The range and pool of jobs are lower comparatively. LinkedIn is more often used to network and make connections.
LinkedIn Job Search was founded in 2003. The platform has 830 million members as of February 2022. It allows users to list skills, educational qualifications and contact information. It also has a job board to search for jobs or recruit candidates. However, Job Search is only one aspect of the platform and may not provide as many relevant results as a tech hiring platform like CutShort or other exclusive hiring platforms.
LinkedIn Job Search offers both a free model and a pay-per click pricing model for recruiters. Job posters pay for job views by the candidates as per the model. In the free model, recruiters may have only one free job post open at one time.
Conclusion
AngelList is a good recruiting resource every startup should try out. It’s easy to use, has quite rich data and offers a free plan. But if it doesn’t suit you and you are hiring in India, do check out the other alternatives listed above.
