If you’re looking for a job or hiring in India, you most likely would have used Naukri. If you’re like most, you would have wondered at some point – what are some good alternatives to Naukri?
You’re not alone. For the last 15 years, Naukri.com has dominated the recruitment market. As of 2017, it claims to have a database of over 55 million searchable resumes with 51, 000+ paid corporate customers. But despite its huge size, many of its users still end up looking for alternatives to Naukri.
Why look for alternatives to Naukri.com?
We talk to thousands of high-quality professionals and recruiters every month. Most of them have used Naukri.com but now wish to have a good alternative to it. Here are some reasons we commonly hear:
High Noise, Low Output
For Naukri.com, the biggest strength is also its biggest weakness — its huge size. From freshers to professionals with 30 years experience, from IT to manufacturing, from actual employers to 3rd party recruitment agencies — Naukri has it all.
Result — huge amount of noise. As an example, see this job position for Digital Marketing executive in Mumbai. It has more than 10,000+ views and 3000+ applications:
The problem here is relevance. Many recruiters have shared that out of such 3000 applications, only 5% of them are relevant enough for shortlisting. Not surprising given the huge userbase of Naukri and given the fact that there are no eligibility criteria set by Naukri at all. Don’t get shocked if a recently graduated fresher apply for your CTO level role!
Similarly, with only basic keyword-based job matching and over monetization, Naukri pushes hundreds of jobs to job seekers. A user looking for web developer job in Bangalore gets 2000+ job suggestions that rarely match the actual skills and preferences.
Spam
Spamming is one of the often cited problems with mainstream job sites like Naukri.com. When you create a profile, it becomes a part of their database, which is not only accessed by recruiters but also Naukri’s “partners”.
As shown above, in addition to job-related emails, you are likely to get many other emails. Some staffing agencies might write asking you to pay money for training and assessment. Someone might call you to join their remote learning programs and others will try to convince you to do MBA from their institutes.
High Pricing
For job seekers, Naukri offers a free plan and also offers a paid option called “Featured Applicant”. This option promises increased visibility to the job seekers.
For recruiters, Naukri offers two pricing models:
- Job ads: You can advertise your job as a “classified” or as a “hot vacancy”. You can’t access the resumes in these plans but can only accept incoming applications. A 3 months subscription to hot vacancy will cost you around Rs 40, 000 with a limit of 250 job postings.
- Resume Database Access (RESDEX): A 3 months subscription to this plan will cost you around Rs 83,000 in which you can access 7000 resumes.
While this pricing works for higher volume employers and recruitment agencies, it proves to be costly for companies looking for fewer higher quality applicants.
Alternatives to Naukri.com
If you are looking for higher quality experience, less noise and better output, here are some alternatives (in alphabetical order)
AngelList
Specifically focusing on startups, AngelList may have started as a fundraising tool, but has rapidly become a popular startup recruiting platform. Thanks to its size (1M candidates profiles globally) and completely free offering, it has seen fast adoption by startups and users alike.
AngelList is a good recruiting resource every startup should try out. It’s easy to use and has a free plan. Its paid pricing plans are a bit expensive though (starting from $199/month).
CutShort
Used by 3000+ companies, from smaller startups to big companies such as Google & Amazon, CutShort is getting popular between startups and bigger companies alike that want to reduce noise from their recruiting. It does by intelligently using matchmaking algorithms, gamification techniques and Artificial Intelligence (talk to its professional assistant Voila).
It offers a 100% free plan and paid plans starting at around $50/month.
iimjobs
iimjobs is considered as the largest job board for mid to senior management jobs in India. IIMJobs features some of the best jobs in Banking & Finance, Consulting, Research & Analytics, Sales & Marketing, HR, IT and Operations.
Although the name might suggest that it’s a platform purely for IIM graduates but these days anybody looking for a job anywhere in India can make a profile on the platform.
With more than 400M users worldwide, it’s impossible to talk about recruiting without mentioning LinkedIn. If you are hiring for senior or tech profiles, chances are you will find a lot of professionals for your given requirement.
While it’s easier to search profiles, it takes a longer time to recruiting on LinkedIn since many folks might not be looking for a new job. You may also lack the other critical information about the potential candidates such as their resumes, salary information, career preference and so on.
Conclusion
Naukri.com is the biggest job site in India, that recruiters simply can’t ignore. But for higher quality talent, there may be better alternatives available that cost much less and are much more relevant.
