About the Role

As a Principal Engineer at EquityList, you’ll own and drive the engineering direction of the company. You’ll work with an existing team of 4 strong full-stack engineers, writing production code while setting the technical bar across architecture, scalability, and reliability.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You’ll partner closely with the CEO and product leadership to turn business priorities into well-designed systems, guide major technical decisions, and ensure we move fast without breaking fundamentals.

If you enjoy building critical systems, mentoring capable engineers, and taking responsibility for how an organization engineers at scale — this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

1. Hands-On Coding (50%): Own full-stack epics/features end-to-end (React/Node/Postgres stack) from ideation to production.
2. Technical Leadership (20%): Guide architecture decisions, system design, DevOps (CI/CD, GCP, Kubernetes), and infosec (auth, encryption, SOC2 basics).
3. Mentoring & Code Quality (15%): Conduct code reviews for 80%+ of PRs, pair-program with juniors/mids, run tech syncs to the upskill team.
4. Hiring & Team Building (5%): Screen candidates, lead technical interviews, contribute to scaling the team.
5. Product Strategy (10%): Collaborate with CEO/Product Manager on roadmap prioritization, effort estimation, and refinement.

What We Want

• 8-12 years full-stack experience; prior Series A/B startup exposure essential.
• Expertise: Modern JS stack (React/Next.js, Node/Express), databases (Postgres), cloud infra, DevOps tools.
• Proven mentoring: Helped juniors grow; comfortable with mixed-skill teams.
• Soft skills: Startup hustle, CEO collaboration, clear communication.
• Indian startup ecosystem knowledge is a plus.
• Bonus: ESOP/compliance domain familiarity, Principal/Staff Engineer background.

Key Responsibilities:

 Design, develop, and maintain WinForms applications.

 Knowledge of .NET languages including C#, & Winforms is Mandatory.

 Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new

features.

 Write clean, scalable, and efficient code using C# and ASP.NET.

 Develop and maintain SQL Server databases, including writing complex

queries and stored procedures.

 Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing applications.

 Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

 Ensure application security, performance, and reliability.

Roles and Responsibilities

1.    Manage client relationships, and facilitators relationship at MHFAI for training and post-training support.

2.    Ideate, design, and implement program that focused on post-training support for mental health first-aiders.

3.    Leverage the new products of MHFAI to the clients that ensures implementation of mental health by building tools and guidelines (for organized groups).

4.    Oversee and facilitate MHFAI instructors for training and upskilling.

5.    Monitor and coordinate the MHFAI Awards program with all the stakeholders involved.

6.    Draft and initiate scientific research, and create tools required at workplace to measure mental health.

7.    Plan and manage webinars, events and activities to promote the idea of mental health at workplaces and educational institutions.

8.    Draft, design, manage and implement guidelines / resources with focus on mental health for the benefit of organized groups.

9.    Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in Learning and Development and / or mental health, and incorporate them into our training programs.

10. Manage the Learning and Development budget, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.

11. Provide support in other operational functions of MHFA as needed.

Requirements:

·      4-10 years in Counselling psychology and / or mental health training

·      Qualification: Education in Counselling / Medical Psychology

·      Experience in clinical work

·      Exposure to mental health training

·      Experience of having previously worked in organized group is desirable

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

• Design, create and maintain databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to production systems
• Configure and maintain database servers and processes, monitor system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Convert complex business requirements into technical specifcations to build scalable and reliable data solutions 
• Apply data modelling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
• Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time on production, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
• Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
• Develop complex query, performance tuning, stored procedures and triggers, scheduled jobs, schema refinement.
• Flexibility to work after office hours for any production issue or production deployment.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
• Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.

Qualifications include:

• 4+ years of database and backend development experience
• Good understanding of database systems and architectures
• Expertise in writing complex SQL queries and stored procedures
• Hands on experience with RDBMS and NoSQL data stores like  MySQL and MongoDB
• Experience working with Python scripting and application development
• Experience working with Cloud applications and data stores like AWS RDS is a plus
• In-depth understanding of data management and ETL processes

• 1+ years of experience with Android
• Basic understanding of Kotlin
• Experience with Android Architecture Components Like ViewModel, LiveData, Data BInding, Navigation etc.
• Experience with frameworks like OkHttp, Retrofit, androidx, moshi, picasso, among others.
• Experience with design patterns and industry trends
• Understanding that great code is also maintainable code.
