Role Description

This is a full-time Java Backend Developer role, based in Bengaluru with flexible remote work option. The Java Backend Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering complex Java-based applications and providing end-to-end support throughout the software development lifecycle. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional team members, gather and analyze requirements, identify and prioritize technical and functional requirements and provide innovative solutions to address business challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent technical degree)
• 5+ years of hands-on software development experience in Java/J2EE
• Experience in defining software architecture, design patterns, and solution design
• Strong experience in microservices architecture, Angular, Spring Boot Framework, Hibernate, and Web Services (SOAP and REST)
• Experience in cloud infrastructure, ideally with Amazon Web Services
• Strong knowledge in database design, SQL query optimization, and performance tuning
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and mentor team members
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Experience and knowledge of Agile methodologies
• Experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud services
• Proven ability to work well under pressure and deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines

• You will take initiatives in developing and maintaining integrations of best practices within the back-end.
• You will help identify systemic issues, performance bottlenecks and work on design/architect improvements.

• You have 2+ years of experience in product software development.
• You have designed and scaled up the system.
• You have a strong understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms.
• You are an incessant problem solver and tougher the problem gets, more fun you have.
• You have strong command in any one or more of the following languages: Python.

About the Role

If you are interested in developing the future architecture of Uber's Rider stack by building its core building blocks, join the Rider Backend Platform team. We build backend architectural components and frameworks comprising of services, libraries, state storage and other building blocks that aim to optimise the core Rider flow and foundational features that are shared among all rider products, including but not limited to, Uber Rider app, UberLite, m.uber.com, etc.

• Work with Rider product engineering teams to identify, design and build solutions that help scale Rider services and platforms.
• Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability
• Analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence design for scalability and testability
• Work with smart and motivated teammates in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Build elegant backend platform components for high throughput and low latency distributed systems.
• Solve challenging problems with cutting edge design and algorithms.

What You'll Need

• 4+ years Strong meaningful Individual contributor experience as a software engineer
• Design: Knowledge of data structures and an eye for design. You can discuss the tradeoff between design choices, both on a theoretical level and on an applied level.
• Strong coding/debugging abilities: You have advanced knowledge of at least one programming language, and are happy to learn more. Our core languages are Go and Java.
• Fast learner: We're looking for software engineers who thrive on learning new technologies and don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. You should be able to adapt easily to meet the needs of our massive growth and rapidly evolving business environment.
