About the Role

We are looking for a strong Mid-Level Python Developer to join our backend engineering team in Bangalore. The role is focused on building, maintaining, and improving backend systems for fintech products in the Indian capital markets domain, specifically around PMS, AIF, portfolio operations, order management, reporting, and client-facing enterprise workflows.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in building APIs, working with relational databases, writing clean and maintainable Python code, and solving practical backend engineering problems. This is a backend-first role. Frontend or Angular exposure is preferred but not mandatory.

The candidate should be capable of independently owning backend modules, collaborating with product and frontend teams, mentoring junior developers, and eventually growing into a team lead role.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain backend APIs using Python and FastAPI.

- Build reliable, scalable, and maintainable backend services.

- Work extensively with PostgreSQL for database design, querying, optimization, and data integrity.

- Use Redis for caching, queues, session handling, or performance improvement where applicable.

- Write clean, modular, testable, and production-ready Python code.

- Develop REST APIs with proper request validation, error handling, authentication, and response structure.

- Understand business requirements and convert them into robust backend implementation.

- Debug production issues, identify root causes, and implement long-term fixes.

- Optimize database queries, backend logic, and API performance.

- Participate in code reviews and maintain engineering standards.

- Mentor junior developers and help improve their coding, debugging, and backend design skills.

- Work closely with frontend developers, QA, product/business teams, and management.

- Contribute to technical documentation, SOPs, and internal development practices.

- Build backend solutions for fintech workflows related to PMS, AIF, capital markets, reporting, order processing, and operational automation.

Required Technical Skills

Python Backend Development:-

- Strong hands-on experience with Core Python.

- Good understanding of Python data structures, functions, classes, modules, exception handling, and file handling.

- Ability to write clean, reusable, and maintainable backend code.

- Experience with practical backend service logic, data transformation, and debugging.

FastAPI / API Development:-

- Hands-on experience with FastAPI or similar Python web frameworks.

- Strong understanding of REST API design.

- Experience with request/response validation, status codes, error handling, middleware, and dependency injection.

- Basic understanding of authentication and authorization in APIs.

- Ability to design APIs that are practical, secure, and maintainable.

Database Skills:-

- Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL.

- Ability to write SQL queries involving joins, aggregations, filters, subqueries, and transactions.

- Understanding of indexing, query performance, constraints, and relational database design.

- Ability to troubleshoot data issues and optimize database-heavy backend workflows.

 Redis / Caching:-

- Working knowledge of Redis.

- Understanding of caching use cases, TTL, key-value storage, and performance improvement patterns.

- Experience using Redis in backend applications will be preferred.

 Backend Engineering Fundamentals:-

- Understanding of application architecture, modular code structure, logging, configuration management, and environment variables.

- Good debugging and problem-solving ability.

- Understanding of production issues, edge cases, and maintainability.

- Basic understanding of background jobs, queues, async processing, or scheduled tasks will be preferred.

Version Control & Development Practices

- Experience with Git.

- Ability to work with branches, pull requests, code reviews, and structured development workflows.

- Familiarity with testing, basic unit tests, and API testing tools such as Postman.

Preferred Skills

- Experience in fintech, capital markets, PMS, AIF, wealth management, portfolio reporting, or order management systems.

- Exposure to Angular or frontend development.

- Experience with background task processing, Celery, Redis queues, or scheduled jobs.

- Experience with Docker or Linux-based deployment environments.

- Experience working on enterprise SaaS or client-facing business applications.

- Understanding of financial data workflows, reconciliations, transactions, holdings, reporting, or order lifecycle.

Domain Exposure Preferred

Candidates with experience or interest in the following areas will be preferred:

- Indian capital markets

- Portfolio Management Services — PMS

- Alternative Investment Funds — AIF

- Wealth management platforms

- Order management systems

- Financial reporting systems

- Investor/client reporting workflows

- Transaction, holding, and reconciliation workflows

- A strong backend developer with practical problem-solving ability.

Assessment Process

The hiring process will include:

1. Initial screening based on resume, experience, notice period, and compensation fit.

2. Google Form technical assessment of 50 marks.

3. Live coding / technical discussion round.

4. Final face-to-face discussion covering technical depth, domain fit, ownership, and team fit.

As a back-end developer, you’ll work on our back-end app that is built with Ruby on Rails. You’ll help to plan and develop new features, review other people’s code, fix bugs, help in technological and business decisions, and support the internal team.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• At least 3 years of industry experience
