What You’ll Do as a Software Craftsperson 

• Design and build high-quality, maintainable systems using disciplined engineering practices such as TDD, continuous refactoring, and pair programming 
• Operate in an AI-native development model, using AI as a collaborator to explore architecture and design, accelerate development, and continuously improve systems while applying strong judgment to ensure that speed never compromises quality 
• Take end-to-end ownership of outcomes from problem understanding and system design to implementation, deployment, and operation in production 
• Make thoughtful design decisions that balance simplicity, scalability, and long-term maintainability in real-world systems 
• Maintain a high bar for engineering quality through rigorous testing, code reviews, and continuous feedback 
• Investigate and resolve production issues, and implement systemic improvements to prevent recurrence 
• Work directly with clients, navigate ambiguity, and translate business problems into well-designed technical solutions 
• Contribute to improving team practices, tooling, and systems to raise the overall quality and effectiveness of engineering 

Requirements

What You’ll Bring 

• 3+ years of experience building high-quality, production systems (flexible based on demonstrated capability) 
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering, including object-oriented design, system design, and testing practices such as TDD 
• Demonstrated ability to build simple, maintainable, and scalable systems with a focus on long-term reliability 
• Proficiency in one or more modern technologies, Python, PHP, JavaScript, or TypeScript, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly 
• Deep experience working with Git in collaborative environments, including managing shared codebases, conducting code reviews, and maintaining a high bar for quality 
• Ability to operate effectively in an AI-native workflow using AI as a collaborator to explore solutions and accelerate development, while applying strong judgment to ensure correctness, quality, and maintainability 
• Clear thinking and strong problem-solving ability, with the capacity to break down complex problems into simple, well-structured solutions

Job Title: Application Development Engineer (Python – Backtesting & Index Platforms)

Role Overview

We are seeking a strong Python Application Engineer to help build a next-generation Index Backtesting and Rebalance Platform.

In this role, you will design and develop deterministic, scalable calculation engines that convert financial methodologies into production-grade software.

You will work on portfolio construction, rebalancing logic, and historical simulations while consuming reference and market data from Snowflake using python as your core processing tool.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Development: Design and implement modular, reusable Python components for index construction, rebalancing, and backtesting.

Large-Scale Simulation: Use Pandas, NumPy, and PySpark to run historical calculations across long time horizons and multiple index variants.

Workflow Integration: Integrate engines with orchestrators such as Airflow or Temporal using parameterized, config-driven execution.

Reference Data Consumption: Query and utilize pricing, security master, and corporate action data from Snowflake.

Quality & Reconciliation: Build automated test harnesses to validate outputs, compare against benchmarks, and guarantee reproducibility.

Performance Optimization: Improve runtime efficiency through vectorization, caching, and distributed computing patterns.

Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Business, Index Ops, and Platform teams to accelerate research-to-production onboarding.

Required Technical Capabilities

Python Expertise: Strong proficiency in Python application development with emphasis on clean architecture and maintainable design.

Mandatory (Experience 1) – Must have 5+ years of hands-on Backend Engineering experience building scalable, production-grade systems

Mandatory (Experience 2) – Must have strong backend development experience using one or more frameworks (FastAPI / Django (Python), Spring (Java), Express (Node.js).

Mandatory (Experience 3) – Must have deep understanding of relevant libraries, tools, and best practices within the chosen backend framework

Mandatory (Experience 4) – Must have strong experience with databases, including SQL and NoSQL, along with efficient data modeling and performance optimization

Mandatory (Experience 5) – Must have experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs, services, and backend systems, including system design and clean code practices

Mandatory (Domain) – Experience with financial systems, billing platforms, or fintech applications is highly preferred (fintech background is a strong plus)

Mandatory (Company) – Must have worked in product companies / startups, preferably Series A to Series D

Mandatory (Education) – Candidates from Tier - 1 engineering institutes (IITs, BITS, are highly preferred)

Design, develop IoT/Cloud-based Typescript/ JavaScript/ Node.JS applications using

Amazon Cloud Computing Services.

Work closely with onsite, offshore, and cross functional teams, Product Management, UI/UX developers, Web and Mobile developers, SQA teams to effectively use technologies to build and deliver high quality and on-time delivery of IoT applications

Bug and issue resolution

Proactively Identify risks and failure modes early in the development lifecycle and develop.

POCs to mitigate the risks early in the program.

Assertive communication and team skills

Primary Skills:

Hands on experience (3+ years) in AWS cloud native environment with work experience in

AWS Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB

3+ years’ experience in working with NodeJS, Python, Unit Testing and Git

3+ years in work experience with document, relational or timeseries databases

2+ years in work experience with typescript.

1+ years in IaaS framework like Serverless or CDK with CloudFormation knowledge

Job Description

We are looking for a Back-End Web Developer responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. Your primary focus will be development of all server-side logic, definition and maintenance of the central database, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. You will also be responsible for integrating the front-end elements built by your coworkers into the application. A basic understanding of front-end technologies is therefore necessary as well.
