Role Overview: 

Zolvit is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Ruby on Rails to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience building scalable backend and frontend systems. This role involves designing and developing robust applications, implementing scalable architectures, and mentoring junior engineers. 

Responsibilities: 

• Design and implement scalable backend systems using Ruby on Rails.
• Work with event-driven middleware like Kafka to manage asynchronous communication between services. 
• Design, implement, and manage SQL and NoSQL databases with a strong understanding of tradeoffs. 
• Develop comprehensive high-level and low-level system designs and document them clearly for knowledge sharing. 
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster an environment of engineering excellence. 
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for seamless integration and deployment.

Requirements: 

• 4+ years of experience developing scalable applications using Ruby on Rails.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and experience with middleware like Kafka. 
• Solid experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases and their tradeoffs.
• Expertise in high-level and low-level system design, with the ability to communicate designs to engineers effectively. 
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Strong knowledge of coding principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Proficiency in leveraging AWS services for scalable deployments. 
• Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

What will you do:

You will independently work on designing and developing solutions that solve customer’s business problems. You will own the assigned problem statements, evaluate multiple technical approaches and use design-thinking to take independent decisions while implementing the solution. You will also guide junior members of the team and participate in code and design review process.

Who should apply:

You have -

• a graduate degree in BE, BTech, MTech, MCA from a reputed institute
• 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in programming Core Java 8, Spring Boot, Spring Rest Template, Spring Security, Spring Data, Spring JDBC Template
• Good to Have experience/knowledge on Docker, Oracle, MongoDB, Quartz Scheduler, Shell scripting
• Working experience with Windows, Linux environments

Primary Duties

• Build a broad knowledge across various systems and processes via knowledge transfer and capture any missing information on the wiki

• Gather software requirements by talking to various stakeholders and document them

• Implement software solutions after discussing the requirements and taking direction from the Technical lead and talking to other colleagues within and outside the team

• Provide necessary effort and time estimates for tasks to aid scheduling and prioritization

• Provide necessary 3rd line support to the Operations teams including software fixes as needed

• Work on any BAU development activity including on-boarding new data sets and delivering new markets into the system

• Work with external vendors from time to time to gather necessary requirements for new data or changes to existing data specifications

• Maintain pro-active communication with relevant stakeholders and keep them updated on progress

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Essential

• 4+ years’ experience of programming in Java.
• 4+ years’ experience working with SQL including complex queries, stored procedures, views, database design and solid understanding of database concepts (preferably SQL Server)
• Experience of both Linux and Windows environments, scripting and tools
• Willing to carry out operational data tasks alongside developing new solutions
• Well organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple streams of work
• Excellent communication skills

Beneficial

• Experience working with Cloud environments (preferably AWS)
• Experience in handling financial data sets and familiarity with financial instruments (equities, futures, FX)
• Experience working with data pipelines and building ETL solutions
• Experience working with tools like Flink, Kafka and Tableau

Educational & Professional Qualifications

• Educated to degree (or equivalent) level or higher.
• A degree with mathematical and computing content (e.g. Computer Science, Maths, Physics)

• Create elegant, efficient and maintainable software to support and extend our current products.
• Solve complex architectural challenges when implementing new features.

• Troubleshoot and fix reported customer issues, delivering software patches as needed.
• Assisting in making design decisions based on performance, scalability, security, and future expansion.
• Communicating and collaborating with management, product, QA teams.

What will help you thrive in this role?

• Degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer.
• Proficiency in web development using any of the languages: PHP, Python, Java, NodeJS or Golang.
• Should possess a solid grasp of object-oriented programming, system architecture & design, databases, development, and testing methodologies.
• Good in Design (HLD and LLD).
• Good in Database schema design.
• Good to have experience with AWS or Google Cloud or Azure and serverless architecture.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Track record of delivering successful products as an engineer.
• Experience with large applications of some scale will be a plus.
• Ability to deep dive, understand & improve the legacy code.
• Domain knowledge of supply chain & retail industry is a plus.
