Bidgely is seeking an outstanding and deeply technical Principal Engineer / Sr. Principal Engineer / Architect to lead the architecture and evolution of our next-generation data and platform infrastructure. This is a senior IC role for someone who loves solving complex problems at scale, thrives in high-ownership environments, and influences engineering direction across teams.

You will be instrumental in designing scalable and resilient platform components that can handle trillions of data points, integrate machine learning pipelines, and support advanced energy analytics. As we evolve our systems for the future of clean energy, you will play a critical role in shaping the platform that powers all Bidgely products.

Responsibilities

• Architect & Design: Lead the end-to-end architecture of core platform components – from ingestion pipelines to ML orchestration and serving layers. Architect for scale (200Bn+ daily data points), performance, and flexibility.
• Technical Leadership: Act as a thought leader and trusted advisor for engineering teams. Review designs, guide critical decisions, and set high standards for software engineering excellence.
• Platform Evolution: Define and evolve the platform’s vision, making key choices in data processing, storage, orchestration, and cloud-native patterns.
• Mentorship: Coach senior engineers and staff on architecture, engineering best practices, and system thinking. Foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
• Innovation & Research: Evaluate and experiment with emerging technologies (e.g., event-driven architectures, AI infrastructure, new cloud-native tools) to stay ahead of the curve.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and Data Scientists to align platform capabilities with product needs.
• Non-functional Leadership: Ensure systems are secure, observable, resilient, performant, and cost-efficient. Drive excellence in areas like compliance, DevSecOps, and cloud cost optimization.
• GenAI Integration: Explore and drive adoption of Generative AI to enhance developer productivity, platform intelligence, and automation of repetitive engineering tasks.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience in backend/platform architecture roles, ideally with experience at scale.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, data engineering stacks (Kafka, Spark, HDFS, NoSQL DBs like Cassandra/ElasticSearch), and cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Proven ability to architect high-throughput, low-latency systems with batch + real-time processing.
• Experience designing and implementing DAG-based data processing and orchestration systems.
• Proficient in Java (Spring Boot, REST), and comfortable with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices.
• Strong understanding of non-functional areas: security, scalability, observability, and
• compliance.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Prior experience working in a SaaS environment is a strong plus.
• Experience with GenAI tools or frameworks (e.g., LLMs, embedding models, prompt engineering, RAG, Copilot-like integrations) to accelerate engineering workflows or enhance platform intelligence is highly desirable.

Requirements

• Extensive and expert programming experience in at least one general programming language (e. g. Java, C, C++) & tech stack to write maintainable, scalable, unit-tested code.
• Experience with multi-threading and concurrency programming.
• Extensive experience in object-oriented design skills, knowledge of design patterns, and a huge passion and ability to design intuitive modules and class-level interfaces.
• Excellent coding skills - should be able to convert the design into code fluently.
• Knowledge of Test Driven Development. Good understanding of databases (e. g. MySQL) and NoSQL (e. g. HBase, Elasticsearch, Aerospike etc).
• Strong desire to solve complex and interesting real-world problems.
• Experience with full life cycle development in any programming language on a Linux platform. Go-getter attitude that reflects in energy and intent behind assigned tasks.
• Worked in a startup-like environment with high levels of ownership and commitment.
• BTech, MTech or Ph. D. in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent).
• Experience in building highly scalable business applications, which involve implementing large complex business flows and dealing with huge amounts of data.
• 3+ years of experience in the art of writing code and solving problems on a large scale.

About the Role 

As a result of our rapid growth, we are looking for a Java Backend Engineer to join our existing Cloud Engineering team and take the lead in the design and development of several key initiatives of our existing Miko3 product line as well as our new product development initiatives. 

Responsibilities 

•  Designing, developing and maintaining core system features, services and engines
• Collaborating with a cross functional team of the backend, Mobile application, AI, signal processing, robotics Engineers, Design, Content, and Linguistic Team to realize the requirements of conversational social robotics platform which includes investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, and evaluate technical feasibility
• Ensure the developed backend infrastructure is optimized for scale and responsiveness 
• Ensure best practices in design, development, security, monitoring, logging, and DevOps adhere to the execution of the project. 
• Introducing new ideas, products, features by keeping track of the latest developments and industry trends 
• Operating in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules

Requirements 

• Proficiency in distributed application development lifecycle (concepts of authentication/authorization, security, session management, load balancing, API gateway), programming techniques and tools (application of tested, proven development paradigms)  
• Proficiency in working on Linux based Operating system. 
• Working Knowledge of container orchestration platform like Kubernetes
• Proficiency in at least one server-side programming language like Java. Additional languages like Python and PHP are a plus 
• Proficiency in at least one server-side framework like Servlets, Spring, java spark (Java). 
• Proficient in using ORM/Data access frameworks like Hibernate,JPA with spring or other server-side frameworks.

• Proficiency in at least one of inter process communication frameworks WebSocket's, RPC, message queues, custom HTTP libraries/frameworks ( kryonet, RxJava ), etc.  
• Proficiency in multithreaded programming and Concurrency concepts (Threads, Thread Pools, Futures, asynchronous programming). 
• Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling)
• Experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance and reliability
• Good understanding of networking and communication protocols, and proficiency in identification CPU, memory & I/O bottlenecks, solve read & write-heavy workloads.

Responsibilities:

 Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable, and efficient Java codebase for our ad-serving platform.

 Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and other developers to

understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

 Design and implement new features and functionalities in the ad-serving system, focusing on performance

optimization and reliability.

 Troubleshoot and debug complex issues in the ad server environment, providing timely resolutions to ensure

uninterrupted service.

 Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and enforce coding best practices to maintain code quality

and consistency across the platform.

 Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends in ad serving and digital advertising, and integrate

relevant innovations into our platform.

 Work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams to deploy and maintain the ad-serving platform in a cloud- based environment.

 Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and estimate development

efforts for new projects and features.

 Mentor junior developers, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of continuous learning and

improvement within the development team.

 Participate in on-call rotations and provide support for production issues as needed, ensuring maximum uptime

and reliability of the ad-serving platform.

Strong expertise in AWS architecture, deployment and coding using Python and AWS Lambda functions. She/ he should also have experience with NOSQL database like MongoDB/ DynamoDB and exposure to Machine Learning. She/ he should be familiar with Ajax calls, interaction with API using JSON files and xml.

Knowledge of testing tools like JMeter and Selenium and programming languages like Javascript and Dot Net will be a big advantage.
The person should be able to guide junior resources, perform code reviews and solve performance issues as required.
