Lead Web App Developer - Backend

REConnect Energy’s GRIDConnect platform helps integrate and manage energy generation and consumption for 1000s of renewable energy assets and grid operators. We are currently serving customers across India, Bhutan and the Middle East with expansion planned in US and European markets.

We are headquartered in Central Bangalore with a team of 150+ and growing. You will join the Bangalore based Engineering team as a senior member and work at the intersection of Energy, Weather & Climate Sciences and AI. 

Responsibilities:

● Engineering - Take complete ownership of engineering stacks including Data Engineering and MLOps. Define and maintain software systems architecture for high availability 24x7 systems.

● Leadership - Lead a team of engineers and analysts managing engineering development as well as round the clock service delivery. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members and contribute towards their professional growth. Manage weekly and monthly reviews with team members and senior management.

● Product Development - Contribute towards new product development through engineering solutions to product requirements. Interact with cross-functional teams to bring forward a technology perspective.

● Operations - Manage delivery of critical services to power utilities with expectations of zero downtime. Take ownership for uninterrupted product uptime. 

Requirements:

● 4-5 years of experience building highly available systems

● 2-3 years experience leading a team of engineers and analysts

● Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent

● Proficient in python programming skills and expertise with data engineering and machine learning deployment

● Experience in databases including MySQL and NoSQL

● Experience in developing and maintaining critical and high availability systems will be given strong preference

● Experience in software design using design principles and architectural modeling.

● Experience working with AWS cloud platform.

● Strong analytical and data driven approach to problem solving 

• 2 - 5 years of hands-on experience with Mongo DB as a Developer.
• Deploy and create MongoDB clusters with appropriate configuration once the machines are provisioned
• Be able to script, and have programming ability with MongoDB shell and/or other programming languages
• Configure and monitor replica sets and Sharded Clusters
• Ability and experience in working with applications that work with MongoDB such as Java, Node.js and/or others
• Experience with MongoDB security, managing roles and permissions
• Experience with MongoDB backups and restores, manually and using MongoDB and other tools
• Knowledge and experience in working with MongoDB Ops Manager and/or Cloud manager
• Knowledge and/or experience working with MongoDB Atlas
• Knowledge of at least one DevOps tool such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible or similar
• Experience with ORM tools such as spring data is preferred.

• JAVA Microservices with AWS needed
• Provide solution architecture & design involving Cloud and DevOps
• Develop new microservices in a cloud-native way.
• Ensure the unit testing and code coverage are achieved as per the agreed percentage.
• Build reusable code and libraries for future use.
• Optimize application for maximum performance and scalability.
• Collaborate, and coordinate with team members and key stakeholders.
• Communicate effectively with different stakeholders.
• Ensure best practices & standards are followed during SDLC.
• Takes ownership of the whole solution from a technical perspective and ensures adherence to defined Architecture & Design.
• Ensures the latest technology standards, and guidelines are utilized for development.
• Performs consistent & adequate code reviews & feedback to the team.
• Training and induction of new resources on the projects.

Skills and Qualifications

• Deep understanding of OOPs and OOAD.
• Expert and hands-on in Java JEE and Spring framework, Spring Boot.
• Should have experience with RESTful web services and API standards.
• Should know various integration patterns in distributed environments.
• Working knowledge of microservice architecture and different design patterns.
• Hands-on in writing unit tests with Mockito and code coverage tools.
• Hands-on data modeling (Logical physical).
• Knowledge of RDBMS, SQL and any ORM framework (JPA, Hibernate etc.)
• Should know Event-driven and asynchronous programming using message broker.
• Should know about cloud IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and Serverless models of any cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP), preferably AWS.
• Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks like NodeJS (For the Backend) and Angular React (For Frontend) will be added advantage.
• Good to have DevOps related technologies like Container (Docker), Container Orchestrator (Kubernetes EKS)
• Excellent in communication

• Team with top-notch engineers, product managers, program managers, DevOps and QA following agile development methodologies
• Review functional requirements, providing technical feedback on feasibility and architectural approach and framework.
• Design and develop web / mobile applications
• Create Prototype and/or Proof of Concepts (POCs) when necessary
• Act in a technical leadership capacity: Mentor junior engineers and new team members, perform code reviews and apply technical expertise to challenging programming and design problems
• Utilize Agile Development, SCRUM / Pair / Extreme Programming methodologies
• Design and develop supporting components and microservices for the backend tiers focusing on fault-tolerance and scalability in a multi-tenant enterprise environment
• Maintain and improve the functionality and performance of the existing web applications
• Help shape and execute the technical roadmap to develop next generation features; integrate corporate- and product-level architecture principles and goals into the teams project work through designs, implementation strategies, and project planning.
• Drive a culture of quality, technical curiosity, continuous improvement, and evidence-based data driven decision making in the organization.
• Execute other Duties as assigned

• 3+ years of experience developing Backend, API and data-based applications/software
• Experience with one of the major relational databases (MySQL, Oracle, Postgres) and NoSQL databases (Mongo DB, Cassandra, Dynamo DB or such)
• Expert object-oriented programming experience using Java
• Strong OO design and programming skills in Java, Hibernate, JPA, Spring Boot
• Worked in Maven, JPA, REST services, Postman
• Working knowledge on Spring Security / Spring Batch / ZUUL / Eureka / Hysterix
• Exposure with Frontend technologies (React.js, Angular or Ruby-on-Rails)
• Require experience and Strong understanding of entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile (Scrum), Software design/architecture process, unit testing & Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Experience with web services (consuming or creating)
• Experience managing Cloud infrastructure (resources and service) in AWS, Azure and/or GCP
• Strong knowledge of SOA, object-oriented programming, design patterns, multi-threaded application development
• Experience in reporting and analytics, queuing and real-time streaming systems
• Git or similar distributed SCM tools experience.

• 8+ years of experience in Java & J2EE based Web Technologies & Frameworks with a focus in either Service Oriented Architecture or APIs. 
• Experience in designing scalable solutions in a large-scale distributed environment.
• Strong knowledge of web technologies, common web frameworks, networking, SQL and database technologies
• Well versed in software engineering principles, frameworks and technologies
• Strong debugging / troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to propose and defend solutions.
• Ability to work closely with product management, customer support, and  other engineering teams to continuously evolve and innovate the enterprise-class Products.
