.NET (Angular 2+) Team Lead

StarApps Studio is a product-driven SaaS company building Shopify apps that power thousands of online stores. We’ve developed 6 highly-rated Shopify apps (averaging 4.9★) used by 30,000+ Shopify merchants worldwide, including over 1,000 Shopify Plus stores. In just a few years, our bootstrapped team grew from $5.5M to $10M in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) by obsessing over quality and merchant success. Role Overview

We are looking for a Full Stack Developer who will own features end-to-end with an emphasis on backend excellence. In this role, you will design and optimize complex data models and API architectures in Ruby on Rails, implement robust background job queues (e.g. delayed_job) for heavy workloads, and perform rigorous performance tuning to ensure our systems scale. On the frontend, you'll build and integrate React components to deliver complete, user-friendly features. This is a role for someone who loves tackling deep technical challenges in the backend while also crafting intuitive user interfaces – an opportunity to leverage your backend expertise while driving full-stack product ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect & Optimize Backend: Design scalable database schemas and efficient data models. Develop high-performance RESTful APIs and services in Ruby on Rails, ensuring clean, maintainable code and great performance.
• Backend API Development: Design, implement, and maintain robust backend services and RESTful APIs in Ruby on Rails to support new features and internal tools.
• End-to-End Performance Tuning: Optimize application performance across the stack – from minimizing frontend load times to improving backend query efficiency – for our high-traffic, data-intensive apps.
• Collaboration & Agile Delivery: Work closely with designers, product managers, and QA to translate requirements into technical solutions. Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and daily deployments to ship features continuously and reliably.
• Quality & Maintenance: Write clean, maintainable code with appropriate test coverage (unit and integration tests) to ensure reliability. Monitor, debug, and resolve issues in production, and continually refactor and improve existing code for stability and performance

What We’re Looking For (Requirements)

• 4–8 Years Experience: Proven experience as a software developer in a product company (experience in e-commerce or SaaS is highly preferred). You have built real products used by actual customers at scale.
• Ruby on Rails Expertise: Strong command of Ruby on Rails. Experience designing RESTful APIs, working with MVC architecture, and using Rails best practices. You should understand how to structure large Rails applications for maintainability.
• Backend Proficiency: Comfortable building server-side applications and APIs with Ruby on Rails. You can implement business logic, integrate with databases, and create RESTful endpoints (bonus if you’ve worked with GraphQL or other backend frameworks).
• Database Skills: Proficiency with PostgreSQL (or similar RDBMS). Capable of writing complex SQL queries, optimizing queries/indexes, and designing efficient relational schemas. Familiarity with Redis or caching strategies is a plus.
• Front-End Proficiency: Comfortable building user interfaces with React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript. Able to implement frontend components that consume APIs and provide a smooth user experience.
• System Design & Quality: Solid understanding of web application architecture, performance tuning, and scalability concerns. Experience with profiling, benchmarking, and optimizing web applications. Commitment to writing clean, maintainable code with proper tests.
• Product Mindset: You care about the why behind the features. You are comfortable digging into requirements, questioning assumptions, and ensuring that we build solutions that truly solve merchant problems.
• Adaptability & Collaboration: Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You are a self-starter who can take ownership of tasks and drive them to completion, but also know when to ask for help.

• Backend: Ruby on Rails (REST APIs, background jobs), some services in Python.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Development:

• Design, develop, and deploy high-quality software applications using Angular, Dot

Net Core, C#, and SQL Server.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify requirements and develop

• Lead the development of software applications and provide technical guidance to

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate development releases.

• Identify performance bottlenecks in software applications and develop solutions to

improve performance.

• Optimize database queries and improve data retrieval efficiency.

5. Information Security:

• Ensure that software applications comply with information security guidelines and

regulations.

• Collaborate with the security team to identify and mitigate security risks.

• Participate in security audits and provide feedback to improve security posture.

6. GIT and Version Control:

• Use GIT and other version control systems to manage code changes and collaborate

with team members.

• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to improve code quality.

7. Caching Framework:

• Knowledge of caching frameworks like Redis is a plus.

• Collaborate with the team to implement caching solutions to improve application

performance.

8. Collaboration with L2 Support Team:

• Collaborate with the L2 Support Team to educate them on new patches to be

released.

• Troubleshoot any production issues and provide technical guidance to the L2

Support Team.

9. Team Management:

• Manage a team of junior developers and provide technical guidance and mentorship.

• Collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment with company goals and

objectives.

Responsibilities:

• Concepting, creating, and building websites alongside our graphic design team, including taking designer wireframes and magically turning them into effective code.
• Working through the website development lifecycle to launch.
  Designing user-based interactions through an effective front-end architecture framework.
• Developing functional databases, applications, and servers to support our websites on the back end.
• Developing and designing RESTful services and APIs.
• Determining application responsiveness for consumers.
• Troubleshooting issues and problem-solving as necessary.
• Keeping current with industry trends and developments that can be applied to company needs.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
• Expertise with MEAN stack
• Fluent in CSS (Foundation or Bootstrap), JavaScript, and HTML, with an understanding of CSS preprocessors including Sass and LESS.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, JavaScript, and MongoDB with working knowledge of SQL Database and PHP.
• Experience with JS-based tools including Bower, Grunt, and Gulp.
• Working experience as a Full Stack Developer.
• Experience working with server technologies including Apache, ISS, Node.js, and Nginx.
• Experience in API design and development.
• Understanding of libraries including Backbone.js and jQuery.
• Experience with Docker, AWS, CI/CD, Jira is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, system design, and algorithms.
• Excellent communication skills, with strong attention to detail and a head for problem-solving.
• Skilled at working in tandem with a team, or unsupervised as required.

We are looking for seasoned technical leaders from .NET background with experience in building cloud-based web applications and products. The role involves understanding business requirements, customer problems, architecting the appropriate solutions that are secure, scalable, high performing and testable.

Requirements: 

• Passion for building and delivering great software with a strong sense of ownership, while working closely with juniorteam members.
• 6+ years of experience in building web applications using ASP.NET MVC and .NET platform in general.
• Experience of architecting and designing web applications and services
• Experience in building applications on .NET Core, is a great plus
• Should have strong UI development skills using HTML, CSS/JavaScript frameworks.
• Strong experience with Build and Release, Agile processes and Estimation/Planning
• Exposure to New Relic or similar tools to optimize web application performance
• Strong expertise in SQL programming, with experience of writing & optimizing queries that access/process millions of records
• Understanding and experience of working with Product Management, Design and DevOps teams.
