The impact that you will be making

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Backend to design and build scalable backend systems that power Android-first mobile applications. The ideal candidate will have strong backend engineering expertise, experience supporting mobile applications, and a passion for building high-performance, reliable distributed systems that operate efficiently under constrained network conditions.

You will work closely with Android developers and cross-functional teams to build APIs and backend services that enable seamless mobile experiences, including offline synchronization, scalability, and high availability

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs for Android/mobile applications.
• Build backend systems optimized for Android-first applications with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Develop APIs that perform efficiently in low-bandwidth and intermittent network environments.
• Design and implement backend workflows that support offline synchronization, conflict resolution, and data consistency.
• Develop secure, resilient, and highly available microservices.
• Optimize application performance through efficient database design, caching strategies, and API optimization.
• Collaborate closely with Android engineers, Product Managers, QA, and DevOps teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design decisions.

Required Skills

• 4–7 years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin for backend development.
• Experience building backend systems supporting Android/mobile applications.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Gradle (Kotlin DSL/KTS) for build automation and dependency management.
• Familiarity with Android Studio for debugging, API integration, and collaboration with Android teams.
• Experience with modern backend frameworks and scalable application architecture.
• Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar.
• Experience with caching technologies (Redis) and messaging/event streaming platforms (Kafka or RabbitMQ).
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or equivalent cloud platforms.
• Proficiency with GitHub and modern Git-based development workflows.
• Experience using Visual Studio Code (VS Code).
• Familiarity with AI-powered developer tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, or similar Agentic IDEs.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud-native application development.
• Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

We are an IIT Bombay incubated, early stage healthcare start up developing a mobile based Ai technology to help reduce health risks for women during their pregnancy. Our Founders are Harvard and Columbia University alums with extensive experience in digital health in the US and India.

Role: Back end developer ( Python + Flask/Django, Location Mumbai, Marol):

Must have:

• 1-4 years hands on experience in Core Python with preferably Flask framework for complex web and mobile applications. 
• Deployment experience
• Must have experience with Mongodb, MySQL and AWS
• Experience in Redis, Aerospike 
• Good command of API development and deployment ( G Unicorn, Supervisor, Jenkins) Algorithms, system design, OOPS concepts.
• Agility and flexibility to in start up environement with focus on customer, excellent communication skills, and high level of responsibility and responsiveness.
• Project management, scheduling, allocation and delivery.
• Proven experience in agile development, sprint planning and backlog management.

Good to Have:

Experience in Machine Learning, Dialogflow or Rasa for NLP,

• Work with other engineers to develop and test tools and applications used by team on daily basis
• Play a significant role in the ongoing evolution and refinement of current tools and applications
• Triage, troubleshoot, escalate and provide resolution to production issues.
• Reproduce, document and escalate product defects to the Engineering Team.
• Provide well-thought out and reliable direction, both in technical and non-technical terms, to help customers.
• Take ownership of customer issues, including initial troubleshooting, identification of root cause and issue resolution or escalation.
• Identify and escalate priority issues that need immediate attention.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams which requires strong presentation skills and attention to details
  
  
• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent work experience. MS degree is preferred.
• 9+ years development experience in JAVA (using OO Design and Analysis, Design Patterns, etc.)
• High experience in Java 8 Required.
• 4+ years’ experience building highly scalable, distributed and reliable Restful Web Services using Spring, Jersey, etc.
• Should have knowledge on Cloud applications preferably on AWS.
• Knowledge on building Front end applications using JavaScript, AngularJS, HTML5, CSS3.
• Experience with relational DBs like MySQL and NoSQL Database like MongoDB, Solr/Lucene will be a plus.
• Experience with Tomcat, Jax-RS, REST, JPA, IntelliJ, Groovy, Hibernate is must.
• Experience with build technologies like Gradle, Jenkins will be a plus.
• Experience with Test Driven Development using TestNG/Junit testing frameworks.
• Experience working with version control like GIT.
