Java Technical Lead

Why this role exists:

You’ll own our data pipelines—ingesting, cleaning, and serving fashion/e-commerce data at scale—so the team (and founder) can focus on building new capabilities. If you love end-to-end ownership and turning messy web data into reliable, queryable systems, this role is your playground.

What you’ll do:

• Ingestion at scale: Design, build, and operate resilient crawlers/scrapers with rotation, rate-limits, backoff, and change-tolerance.
• Robust pipelines: Normalization, deduping, schema evolution, enrichment, and SLAs for freshness & completeness.
• Data stores & caching: Model products/variants/attributes in PostgreSQL, manage Redis for caching/queues, and keep costs predictable.
• Observability & quality: Instrument with metrics/tracing, add data QA checks, alerts, and auto-healing where sensible.
• Performance & reliability: Optimize throughput, memory, I/O, and infra spend; design for retries, idempotency, and correct delivery semantics.
• Collaboration: Partner with search/ML/product teams; write crisp docs; raise the bar in reviews; mentor where helpful.

Must-haves:

• Super high ownership: End-to-end closure on tasks you lead.
• 3.5+ years building backend systems, preferably in Python with production ownership.
• Strong data pipeline experience (batch/stream): schema design, deduplication, and backfills.
• Hands-on with PostgreSQL/MySQL and Redis (caching, rate-limits, queues).
• Real-world web scraping: requests/httpx/aiohttp, BeautifulSoup/lxml/Scrapy/Playwright, anti-bot tactics, respectful crawling.
• Concurrency & async (asyncio, multiprocessing), robust error handling, idempotent jobs.
• Solid testing habits and bias for simple, maintainable code.

Nice-to-haves:

• Message queues/streams: Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS.
• Workflow schedulers: Airflow, Prefect.
• GraphQL; search tech (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch).
• Cost/perf tuning, on-call pragmatism, or prior startup/founding team experience.

What kind of work will you get?

We are looking for a java developer.

Examples of technical tasks:

Working on our backend SDK to implement APIs that will be consumed by the frontend widgets

Designing APIs for different auth recipes

Architecting auth flows

You will also be given non technical tasks like product brain storming, competitor analysis and writing documentation.

Requirements

Well versed in java with 2+ years of professional experience

Familiar with and comfortable working with Web frameworks like FastAPI, Django and Flask

Familiar with HTTP networking in java

Strong understanding of async and sync modes in java

Bonus:

Contributed to open source, or have your own open source repo with a community and many github stars

Built an in-house authentication or authorization solution or worked with solutions such as Keycloak, Auth0, Ory, Okta etc

This will involve a discussion to assess the breadth and depth of your technical knowledge and general questions on various technical topics.

Work Experience & Skills:

• B.E/B.Tech or any relevant Masters degree from reputed college.
• Strong 5+ years of experience in Java, J2EE, Spring IOC, Spring Annotations, Spring JDBC, Jquery, Java script, HTML 5 and CSS
• Strong experience in Postgres or any SQL technology
• Experience with working on Tomcat, Apache, JBoss or any similar application server
• Should have 3+ years of experience in leading team.
• Good experience in JSON / RESTful API / Web Services.
• Experience in working on Agile methodology using Scrum and sprints
• Experience in using build tools, Maven, GIT, Bugzilla or similar tools.
• Experience in cloud technologies, Microservices and frameworks such as AWS or GPC, container technologies like Docker is a plus.
• Ability to adapt to new development environments, changing business requirements and learning new systems highly desired
• Experience in Microservices, SpringBoot and Angular is a plus.
• Experience with tuning deployed applications for scalability and performance.
• Good knowledge of deployment and scripting on Linux/Unix servers
• Strong technical documentation skills.
